Hi,
In this case the novel was better than the Galactica 1980 pilot. In the novel we learn that Apollo never returned from a mission. It is in the opening pages as part of Adama's log. Also there is an interrogation scene between Troy and the Nazis that was never shown on TV. This was book 5 in the series. Dr. Mortinson was a good character that was never developed.

Robert Reed as Dr. Mortinson was the highlight of the Galactica 1980 pilot. It's too bad he wasn't in any of the other episodes. I belive he would've been an asset to the series.

Hi,
Robert Reed would have been more of an asset than those kids(Super Scouts). Another asset to the show was Richard Lynch as Xavier.

But, as is all too often the case, it was deformed out of all shape by the NitWerk idiots who thought they understood it better than the fans.
RDM et al, anyone?

Dawg -
Robert Reed passed away in 1992, just 5 months short of his 60th birthday at the age of 59 from intestinal cancer which was a compication from H.I.V. infection. He hid the illness from his family and friends until just a few days prior to his passing. Mr. Reed worked on something like 10 projects after Galactica 1980 He also worked on a short-lived one hour drama remake of the Brady Bunch that was called The Bradys. Robert's final project was a film titled Prime Target in 1991.
He had one daugter from an early marriage which ended in divorce after 2 years. Robert was remembered fondly by his family and friends and even though he was unmarried most of his adult life, acted as a second father offscreen to the 6 children of his TV family.
Sincerely,
Bryan
