FIREFLY (FOX) - The Sci Fi Channel has landed the repeat rights to all 15 hours of the short-lived FOX series (and basis of the upcoming "Serenity" feature film). The network's July schedule lists the series as joining its Friday lineup on July 22 at 7:00/6:00c where it will precede original episodes of "Stargate SG-1," "Stargate Atlantis" and "Battlestar Galactica."

Can someone on one of the Whedon boards dig up the specifics of the "ban" on new Firefly television based on the movie contract going to Universal?

Didn't Fox sell the rights to everything related to Firefly?
I mean, Universal is the studio behind the film, so getting the rights to run the series on one of their cable channels wouldn't be a tough one for them to manage...
I imagine with the impetus behind the film, showing all of the episodes of Firefly, will garner some good ratings as everything else on SciFi Friday is reruns at this point. Fox never ran all of the eps, so this will be the first time they've all been shown on TV in one run.
Best,
Bryan

From the reports that I have seen, mainly from JMS, Firefly could not be shopped to another network under the original contract, but a movie was allowed. The strong DVD sales attracted investors and Joss Whedon got to do the movie. With the Scifi Channel getting the repeat rights, it may signal the initial step to buying the franchise/property from Fox or at least the movie rights. If the movie does well, Firefly may stay on the big screen rather than returning to a weekly TV format.
Fireflyfans.net have posted BDS will air, possibly "in order", starting July 22. They already have a proposed flyer, to promote BDM, made up to pass out at theaters showing SW:

and they added information to promote the series on the SciFi Channel.

Took me a second to sync on the "BD" but I have it now.
I have read that there are potentially three movies under the NBC-U contract, but as I recall, taking it to the small screen would require renegotiation with FOX.

I'm looking for a spare ticket to buy for the Serenity screening this Thursday in Vancouver. I've read the FAQ, and cannot find any info on starting a new thread.
If anyone has a ticket they'd be willing to sell me, please r(asap)svp to:

Thanx ahead,
