You fly bi-planes and helicopters???

I heard a strange story one time about older planes in combat with a jet-

The older plane would probably WIN the battle because it could turn faster than a jet, thus avoiding the fire-power of the jet, whereas the jet would end up flying right into the barrage of the older planes "fire".

What's your thoughts on that?

Yep.. i'd have to agree with that. the turning radius of a small bi -plane is shorter and thus can manuiver into a tighter field where as when a jet comes around because of the distance it would cross over stright into the line of fire.

My foundest dream is going up in a B-52 bomber. The thrust that baby has on take off is so cool. and man she can rattle your teeth. We have one that comes here every year...now that's a baby I'd love to fly. I don't fly much any more due to my eyes but it's still fun to go up and navigate. hang your heart on the wings.

I fell in love with Helicopters when I was 17 and got to ride in one after that I always wanted to learn how to fly one!!

I have a passion for fighter jets too wanted to be a fighter pilot when I was a teenager

I also love the DeHavilland Beaver (float plane) got to take a turn in one (as a passenger) last summer and just loved it. When I was a teenager I used to bike 5 miles to the local airstrip and watch the planes take off and land. Lots of fun to watch them on a Saturday practicing their stunts sometimes flying under the electric wires that ran accross the farm fields scared me half to death to see that!! My friend was killed due to such antics he was watching from the road when the pilot lost control.

I try and get to the Air Show here in Vancouver as often as I can, love watching the Harrier jets do their thing *sigh* :D ;)

I've seen the Blue Angels perform a couple of times at airshows. Really spectacular.

Years ago I heard the Vancouver Airshows were pretty awesome!

Hey Breea! You can FLY!!!  :salute: Man, I'd love to be able to do that.

When I was a lad, I used to make model aircraft, I joined the Air Training Corps(RAF cadets), and dreamed of being a RAF fighter pilot. Unfortunatly in Britain, who you are is still more important that how good you are, and a working class boy from a council estate in Kilmarnock does not fit in with the RAF's view of a 'Gentleman Flyer'. Of corse, I doubt if I would ever be good enough anyway! :D

I've been to a few airshows, but not many. The coolets aircraft I've seen are a RAF Harrier hovering right above my head! A Dutch F-16 giving us a low flyby! DEAFENING! :duck: And the Red Arrows desplay team. :salute:
There is an Airport about 7 miles from my house- Prestwick. As it is a fairly quiet airport with a long runway, British Airways do final training for new pilots there. And for about a one week every year Concorde would be flying about Ayrshire! That has to be the mosd beautiful aircraft that has ever took to the sky! A work of art. My gran used to take my brother & I down to the airport just to see it take off. And it would stop crowds of people in there tracks when it flew overhead!
Sadly we will never see her fly again.

Anyway Breea, BRG is green with envy! :D :)

I love wathching the Blue Angels and the Snow Birds!!
Oh the Vancouver International Air Show is something else!! (just have to have lots of sunscreen LOL) The last time I went they had demonstrations with the rescue helicopters, they had the water bombers do demonstrations the by-plane acrobatics left you breathless! They also had another bomber do a demonstration I can't find the name of it but I do remember it straifing the ground and even though we were so far away we were overwhelmed by the intensity of the heat it generated and watching all that fire and smoke was a little overwhelming. I love going but I can never find anyone to go with :( it's more fun when you have someone to share your enjoyment with.

here is a good site with pics from last years air show: http://www.aerophotointernational.com/ab2004.htm

and here is the Vancouver International Air Show's home page:

Ah the Concord :D my dad (who is a nut for aircraft and used to be able to recognise them by their sound.) dragged our butts out to see the Concords first flight. I remember the thousands of people that stood on the bridge with us to watch as it flew around over our heads my dad was going nuts "look at that!!!" LOL! It was something to see I was so sad to hear they were retiring it.:(

Back in my wild and restless youth.. Barn storming for those of you who are younger than me..lol..is when you take up usually a bi-plane.It 's what alot of people calling spraying crops..etc but back then is was called barn storming...You would also go from fair to fair and take people up flying for a fee... If you can ever find an airshow that gives rides..try it. I love it..the wind in your hair.. the cockpit is open and you have to wear goggles to protect your eyes...be sure your really fastened in, esp when they do the loops.

here's a good site to give you all an idea.
