Angry Martok no more in RockBox

Well, Martok is no longer with RockBox, effective 24 May 2005. Since the band did not wish to acquiesce to my need for a lower stage volume so that I could sing without screaming at the top of my lungs, my voice is now worn out.

I still regard many in the band as my friends, but when it came to a professional need, there was no hint of trying to accomodate me.

The possible good news is, there is another band that may want to pick me up....but, I will only do so after my voice has healed up. (Which hopefully won't take too long.)

I am one very pissed off Klingon right now.

I wish sometimes that I had not listened to Tim and Robert, the guys who talked me into coming down in the first place. But now that I am down here, I might as well try to continue making my living as a musician. It is a job I would much rather do than many other jobs I've held.

So, wish me luck folks. Right now...I only have one thing on my mind...a REPEAT viewing of Star Wars Episode III...just so I can see a fictional character who has gone through what I am going through in real life.

Of course, I ain't gonna go to no Dark Side just to make things happen.

Frustratedly,
Martok2112

Painful as it is right now, its gotta be the right thing to do long term. You'll have zero career as a singer if you wreck your voice: and the damage might not have come soon, but later as nodules and other un funky stuff.

You hit the nail on the head, they weren't being professional.

So I wish you all the very best in persuing your dream. You are giving it a go and that one thing you will NEVER regret in life.

Cheers,
Lara

Thanks all. ((((((((((((((EVERYONE))))))))))))))

Actually, Ambs...they're letting me go. Believe me, it was not my choice.

I am trying to look on the bright side of things...their loss may be someone else's gain.

To everyone, all the best,

That sucks.

But if you've got other prospects, it doesn't suck quite so much.

You'll find the right band, my friend. A professional one.

I have faith.

Steve -

That blows.... I know how excited you were to get this job - and you even moved all the way to New Orleans to do it. You're right - if you're tearing your throat out just to be heard over the music, you won't be singing much longer anyway. They're basically creating their own problem and letting you go won't solve it.

I'm guessing that if they are letting you go, they already have someone else lined up... They're not professional if they don't look at things from a broader perspective. I'll bet that they just don't like the "new guy" making requests that affect the whole band.

I hope that you're next gig works out and that you're voice improves soon.

May the Lords of Kobol watch over you...

Best,
Bryan

Martok,
I'll be praying for that voice to heal. It is a serious thing for a singer's vocal chords to be hurt. (some pros lip-synch parts of concert tours because the first part was too hard on them, so it's not an uncommon hurt to have).

I hope you have success finding a more professional band, and hope it's one that also uses the "ear piece" setup instead of speaker style monitors, I've also heard big-time pros say that is an immense saving on one's hearing, the other major injury area of concert givers.

Rockbox's loss will be a boon for a better band. Hang in there.

Steve, given what we've discussed on messenger, I think this is probably the best for ya- Hookin' up with another band that wants you from the get go.

Heart

Thank you ALL for your supportive words. ((((((((((((((((COLONIAL FLEETS))))))))))

I cannot express enough how much your support means to me right now.

For the record, on a personal level, I still regard many in RockBox to be my friends. Perhaps they were hard pressed to come to this decision. I do not know. My point of view was pretty askew last night. I mean, even when one may expect such news, it is still not easy to take.

Folks, when RockBox (specifically their bassist and my friend of several years who is their new guitar player) asked me to try out....they asked me THREE FRACKIN TIMES. There is still a great part in me that wishes they'd've listened to me the FIRST TIME when I told them "no". But they pressed the issue...sounding desperate.

When I get down there, I discover that not all was as it seemed. The primary vocalist was none too happy with their behind the back firing of their previous secondary vocalist. In any case, before my voice started giving out, the primary singer felt that I would be a considerable BOON to the band.

Now, perhaps their primary singer can sing well above the stage volume of RockBox....it's no wonder, he's been a New Orleans musician for well over ten years. My friend who is the new guitar player can easily do so because his monitor is right at his right ear...hitting him in the ear, not the face.

Where I stand on the stage, my monitor is hitting me right in the face. Sometimes, I can step to the side, and hear a little more definition coming out of the monitors if it is hitting one of my ears, and not my face....but it is rare.

I used to use in-ear monitors but when I have to sing some songs liike Journey and such, I have to remove at least one of the earbuds, because I can pretty much blow my own head off with that kind of range.

Perhaps I should stop singing Journey songs....period.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. They mean the world to me. As soon as I find out something about a new band....I will notify you all.

Julix, Jewels, Amberstar, Bryan, Darrell, John, Lara, and Top Gun...you folks ROCK!!!

Appreciatively,
Martok2112

Steve,

They showed bad judgement in this case. Just remember the grass is always greener in other pastures!
