I'm sorry antelope. I know who you feel. It took me a long time to get back into West Wing after I found ut how radical Martin Sheen is politically in real life.

So This guy is a writer I take it?

I'm really curious to understand what you are alluding to regarding Christopher Golden, who was co-author of "Armageddon" and "Warhawk"?

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's confused. He did good work on Richard's first 2 books.

I think the most important thing to remeber is that at the end of the day, our heroes, be they writers, actors, producers, directors, etc... are just ordinary people doing a job that they are paid to do. When you look at them as larger than life, or put them "up there" in your esteem, sometimes you may find yourself somewhat dissappointed when the reality of who they are, what they do, or why they do it.

Some don't care about the money, they do it because they love what they do and it is their "art". Some love the money, the fame and all that goes with a really commercially successful career. I have to wonder what it is like for someone that is so well known. I'm sure they feel the pressure of such adulation and on some level, an obligation to their fans. But, it has to be difficult for some that really do just think of it as their job and have to deal with that "obligation".

I for one, like to see how people really are. Sure, it can be dissappointing sometimes. I know people where I work that from a distance, seem like someone who has skills you admire, or certain personality traits you appreciate. But, when you get to know them better, there is a moment where they surprise you and you see a chink in that perceived "perfection". It isn't really a bad thing, but sometimes that one moment can change your perception of that person from then on.

It's easy to sit back and make judgements about other people's motives in their lives, but unless you haved lived their lives and faced what they have faced, it really isn't fair to do so in the long run.

Best,
Bryan

Wise young guru it is! I really love it when men mature past their gawky youth and you discover this whole other side to them that has been dormant and over shadowed by their youthful hormones. Its so hard to wait for them to get there but when they do wow! Then you get the best of both! Can I say that without offending?

not to say that you were not always so wise Bryan

I'm not so sure about the "wise", but I could live with it. Now, the "young" bit, I think I'm older than Dawg (I'll be 44 in June), but I wouldn't want to usurp John's title....

Aw, hell - who cares? I appreciate the props folks!

Nope, Bryan, I've got you beat. Not by a lot, but I am the elder.

You're about as old as my youngest brother.

*sigh* I'm surrounded by children....

Antelope was looking for some info he didn't have, Jerry. Taken care of, so he deleted the first post. The only reason I didn't close or remove the thread is because it's taken on a life of its own.....

Hey - I never had a kid sister.

Just brothers.

Them I could beat up on, so I was just as happy.

Of course, now that they're all bigger than I am.....

Well I'm the eldest in my family, my role was the protector, and since I didn't have any big brothers to protect me...got "beaten up " a lot by local boy bullies. Also not having any brothers and being the eldest my father figured I'd have to fill in so I got to do all the heavy difficult jobs growing up from roofing, to laying foundations, tilling our huge garden, shoveling our 75 foot long driveway every morning before my parents left for work. So my biggest fantasy growing up was to be the youngest and have a bunch of older brothers who would do all those things and protect me. So...if you want a kid sister I'd still like a big brother

Yeah, people might talk..

But then, again, there's no harm to a friendly hug or a on the cheek every now and then!!

ouch! that hardly seems fair! My parents only have 1 acre and the garden was 100x100 feet

I think I will define a small farm as "Anything you till when standing behind or riding on a motorized tilling machine."

It wasn't really that bad but the elderly gentlemen seemed to think that wages hadn't changed since the depression. We used to work all afternoon and watch him flip through his stack of twenties to get down to the ones.

We did it because he was an old guy that needed some help but I think he thought he was doing us a favor giving us the work.

My brother and I laugh everytime we think about it when he comes over for a visit.
