The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury
Does anyone here remember the The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury it was
released in the 1980s
Earth rests on the verge of extinction, and to survive, man must find another place to live. After three expeditions, headed by Col. John Wilder (Rock Hudson), at last find suitable conditions for relocation, humans pour in by the shipload, bringing the old evils of Earth with them. As Wilder begins to heed the lessons of the dying Martian civilization, can he save humanity from repeating its doom?
I remember watching this and thinking it was cool , differant and intelligent ..do you remember it..

I remember it, in fact I saw it re-broadcast not too long ago but I can't remember on what channel.

Hi Taranis and Artemis!!
Sure do!! I stayed up past midnight to watch the whole thing... and I had to get up in a few hours!!
The book is even better - but the movie was pretty darn close

It was on SciFi a few months ago. I made a DVD of it. I remember watching it when it came out in 1980 or so and thinking it was pretty good. Watching it now 25 years later, it is pretty dated as far as the special effects go -- the rocketships were downright 1930's Buck Roger-ish with the flames coming out of the engines, but being blown upwards, not straight out and things like that.
I tried having my wife watch the dvd with me and she was laughing at the special effects. Pretty weak - even for 1980. Probably didn't have much of a budget, but shows like Space1999 had been out by then and had very good miniatures done.
Chronicles could be a prime candidate for some sort of remake (like War of the Worlds is about to be with Speilberg and Cruise), in my opinion.

Yes I do. It premiered after the G-1980 pilot. In fact Ray Bradbury theater which used to run on sci fi had a remake with David Carradine in the Rock Hudson role.
