Default Gold Cylon Raider

I'm afraid this post may have gotten buried in the "Battlestar Insignia" thread, and since it's a bit off topic from insignia subject matter, I'll start a new thread.

I do enjoy finding hidden things on DVD's that I didn't originally see on lower-quality VHS tapes. Here's one I dug up while watching the DVD's. As far back as the original pilot, there were aparently gold cylons. Check out the fighter in the rear. And no, this image has NOT been colorized. Watch closely at some of the attacks. It's for real and can be more clearly seen a few episodes into the season. Just food for thought...

It's a fault with the colour correction/SFX photography. There were no gold raiders.

So it's just a mistake.

So there.

Oh come on Peter, lets have a little fun with this. Sure we all know there probably were no gold raiders, but if they do apear in more than one battle why not speculate on what a gold raider would be used for.

Perhaps the gold raider could have been the flight leader??

(hows that for having fun with it?)

Now your thinking!

In most battles we see the cylon raiders in groups of five, suppose for every five groups there is a gold to direct and control them. These Gold raiders would avoid combat in order to report back to the base ship the results of the battle.

In deed, a baseship would only need a dozen or so to do the job.

I think it would be fair to say you have added a new element to the TOS Universe.

Now you may take a well earned nap!

Gold Raiders, for those hip-hop Cylons who like to pimp their ride.

in order to boost the morale in the ranks, they implimented the centurian of the month award. The perk was you got to fly the gold raider!

Or maybe it's punishment. The baseship is unhappy with you and puts you in a ship that stands out with the hope that all enemy pilots come gunning for you...

When I'm tired enough, my brain doesn't just think outside the box, it leaves the factory. (That could also explain the 12-year old grammer!)

Maybe it's what the Cylons do instead of a Gold watch.

Its true that rewarding their best cylons with a gold raider is a double edged sword...but then cylons were never the smartest chip on the motherboard.

IL's are based on Gold pilots that survive three missions in a Gold fighter. They do this by getting lost or misdirecting the flight, there-by avoiding actual combat. This explains their bent towards deception.

This is more along the line that I was thinking as well after all you would really stand out visually and if our fighters knew that to be in a gold ship meant you were a higher ranking Cylon or some such thing then that would be the first one you would want to take out. It's like putting a bull’s eye on them. It would not be a bright thing to do at all. It would make more sense that if being in a ship that makes you stand out from the rest and attracts more fire then you must not be liked by your fellow Cylons...LOL!
