Avatar Help Needed!
Hi All!
Happy 4th!!! Can any of you great guys and gals help Lil'old Computer illiterate Rich? Prehaps you can walk me through with the procedures on how to get an avatar up? I'd like to learn this function, and experiment with it.
Any and all help would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Rich.

Oh its simple. All you have to do is create or find a image in jpeg or gif format. It has to be less that 120x120 and about 5K in size.
Then just click the link at the top that says "CONTROL PANEL."
On the next page click "Edit Options"
Then at the bottom you will see "Change Avatar"
Then click the Browse button and show the program where your file is on your hard drive.
Then click "Submit Modification" and you are done!

Hi Tom!
Thanks for the info. I actually had enough comp sence to do that. But my photos seem to be too large. So my question is should the original Jpeg or image suppose to be at 120 by 120 ?
Is there a way to scale down images? And how would that be done, the one image that I have been trying to upload as an avatar is:
TIF image
Height:3.54"(255 pixles)
Width:4.17" (300 pixles)
Resolution: 72 times72 dpi (how do you make a "Times" symbol anyway?)
Color: TrueColor
Compression: Uncompressed
Annotated: No
Now the original image from above is also in a JPeg Image.
Size 32.2KB (34,041)
49,152 bytes used
Now all this is gobbly gook to me, but what steps can I take from here?
Thanks in advance!

What programs do you have? And what system? Microsoft Windows or an Apple computer?
I would suggest using photoshop to shrink the image down if you already have it. But any image editing program will do.
If you don't have one, then you can go to tucows.com or downloads.com to get a free editor. I would suggest Irfanview for a Windows computer. Or Graphic Converter for a Mac.

Rich,
If you have a Windows operating system, you can use the Paint editor from Accessories.
You can use the 'Stretch/Skew image' option. In order to shrink the image with this method, you have to use 'percentages' less than 100 and you can use different percentages for the height and the width. There is a whole lot of trial and error involved with this method. One benefit, though, is that it lets you keep the image as closely centered as possible.
After you've saved the new 'resized' image, you can follow the procedure Tom outlined for updating the Avatar, in the Control Panel.

Thanks Tom, BST!
I have a Compaq Persario PC Comp. I'll try to resize the image and see what sucess I have. I'll shout and cry if things don't go my way from there.
Thanks Again!
Rich
