A Warrior's Pledge
Here's something I've come up with.
I started wondering if the people of the 12 Colonies swore an oath when entering the military. Here's what I came up with:
I do solemnly swear to uphold the mandate of the Colonial Service, as handed down through the ages and spoke again as if new.
By the Lords of Kobol, I make the following covenant:
To serve the greater good.
To protect the weak and the helpless.
To always be worthy of the trust and respect of my fellow warriors.
To keep the faith of the Lords of Kobol.
To preserve my honor in places where there is none.
To always find hope in the face of great adversity.
To bring light where there is darkness.
These things I swear until the suns shine no more and all is dark as it was in the beginning.
What do you think?
Peter

Well, except for the stuff about the Gods, pretty cool.

What FG said. (I just can't swear oaths to fictional gods, like the real one too well. ) Also, their were varieties of faiths in the Colonies, it might not have been part of the Warrior's oath due to that or may have been watered down "aspire to the ideals of Faith, expressed in the Book of the Word by the Lords of Kobol." well that was verbose! ha.
Otherwise EXCELLENT.

I concur - I can just imagine a young Apollo or Adama taking such an oath.
Although one does wonder just how solemn a young Starbuck might have been!
Edit.....................
Hey - where have ten of my post count gone? I'm sure I was on 58 a week and a half ago!

Agelastus:
Counters updated, fubared everyones counts, PM Warrior if you want yours fixed.
Agree about Starbuck, sort of. I do think enough of the Warrior ideal was in his heart (his leave no man behind mentality, for instance) but his self preservation was the thing he always hid behind.

Been looking around Jewels - hardly seems adult to moan about ten when others have lost perhaps FOUR THOUSAND.
Soon make'em up, there's a lot of activity around.
Starbuck was a "hero" - I don't dispute he lived up to the oath. I just have this image of him pulling faces while taking it. Pulling faces at the least!
