There is an article about the various actors who played Superman in today's (June 23) page for ABC News. This is the link:

It mentions Kirk Alyn, who I think was the first actor to play the role. He has a memorable bit part in BG's War of the Gods.

P.S. Ironically, Batman is also in that episode. The first few times I watched Galactica, Olan Soule's voice drove me crazy, wondering where I'd heard it before. I finally learned that he was the voice of Batman in the 1970s cartoon series.
Soule appeared in several Galactica episodes as the gardener Carmichael.
