Default Stevew Defender Class Lightwave

Hi true believers (A little Line from Stan Lee and Marvel)

Steve recently found was to convert his model's to Lightwave .. and the mad
Fool (mean that in the nicest way) trusts me to make it presentable to Lightwavers ..
Lord of Kobol If I mess this up Cylons will be the last of my worries

see what's happen I now have a nervous laugh

But all jokes aside here is Steve's ship .. No Textures yet ... I am also going to add to the landing bay .. with Steve permission

As we go forward with the look of the model .. any Ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated . even if you no nothing about modelling or textures ..
you know what you like .. so input please

Yeah, that's the problem with Steve's majorly detailed meshes. His Galactica in tS 4 makes my PC go stupid.

You should see Bryce choke on them. But one trick I learned was taking his lightwave version battlestar into Polytrans and I lowered the polygon count. That effectively reduced the file size of the model without affecting it's beauty.

Looks great "T" That one is the latest. I had to go from SW to TS and then back to polytrans for poly reduction. It went from 3M to 900K polys and I could not see much detail loss. I am going to play with it til I get a reduction setting that will balance detail with poly count.
CAD standard to always use triangles. That is how CAD data is
tessellated from NURBS surfaces so poly count is high.

The TS file was 33M and the LW file was 17M so I only posted the LW file. I don't think I can get much more than a 10% reduction with out loosing detail.

TS 6.6 and 7 handle large files pretty well

Bob Could you post the polytrans settings? I have found that if I do a 75% reduction I can keep the detail, more and it turns to junk.

I am going to just post LW models because that seems to be the format of choice here. Eventually I hope to have the whole fleet in LW

Try these settings Steve, at least I hope these are the ones. They're from the last time I used it.

3 million polys? Holy crap, dude. I model mostly Star Trek (though I'm considering doing some Galactica modeling) so I'm used to between 200k and 300k for a detailed Trek model because most Trek designs still go with Matt Jeffries' theory that ships should be pretty basic on the outside and all of the cool stuff should be contained within.

That will be a fine addition ...... If the Defender come out to you satisfaction. I do the
scenes and redo the textures if you want .. the between my commitment to the fanfilm and building my own model of the Galactica .. married life. work. going mad .. you know LIFE

Most of the BSG ships have stuff on the outside so it make them more fun to do IMHO. Smooth ones are not nearly as much fun. I will try and keep them below 1M, the Defender was a 17M LW file and I hope to keep them in this range. CAD data translates funny sometimes but I do CAD for a living and SW is all I have

Darrell was on a while back to renew his 3DG site because it had expired, but he hasn't been on much in recent months because his PC blew up and I don't know if he ever got it replaced.
