Default Protecting the Baseship

I found this while cleaning out my hard drive today. I think its been buried there at least a year and a half if not more.

Its a frame from an animation test I did and likely abandoned.

Sandy....I've known your an animator for some time, and have seen images done by you. Thanks for posting this latest find. However, I can't recall ever having seen an animation by you ?

As you may know from other thread, I am making a website cataloging all the BSG fanfilms. I am doing his as we speak in my 2nd monitor, as I am teaching myself Dreamweaver to do it, as I type on CF in my first monitor !

I'd like to know of any BSG animations you have done so I can. if you're willing, link to them.....as well as being interested myself......please can you let us know of any and where we can see them ?

I've been thinking of slapping the animations into a short video. I'm in the middle of another project at the moment.

Sandy.....it'll be cool if you could put something together........the more fanfilms the merrier ! And if it could follow some sort of storyline, even if just a space battle, rather than joined test sequences...that would be even better !

I'll look forward to it, as well as the project you are currently working on !

I'll pretty much be working with what I have on hand.

Beyond that, I might work with Don on something but otherwise I have my hands full with other projects.

I don't mean to pester you as I know you're busy on the audio project, which I am looking forwards to, but I was wondering if you might consider making your BSG TOS animation test sequences available for viewing ?

Many people have posted short (even just 5 sec) test sequences and they are very interesting to view and see people's style and the type of scene they animate.... Please consider it....

Ernie,

Tell you what. Let me try to dig out the archive DVDs this weekend and I'll see what I can do.

Ernie,

I had a lot of things come up this weekend and thought it would be easier to simply crank out another animation and toss it on the stockpile. I'll covert it to an avi or mov when its done rendering. Its nothing much, but hopefully its enough to buy me another week before I have to dig into the DVD piles hovering in the closet.

This is the model that the GINO fans seem to love some much, since they keep stealing renders of it and using for their banners.

Sandy,

Thanks for the image and resulting animation......it does indeed buy you some time

Thanks for remembering my request, and I look forwards to seeing whatever your closet is hiding....

I compiled the render into a quicktime vid (9 megs) and an avi (1.5 megs) for the modem challenged. Obvious the larger file is the better quality.

http://allgalactica.com/hold/qvid.mov -- Quicktime

http://allgalactica.com/hold/qvid.avi -- AVI

When you compare that with this still, which is essentiall the same shot with a different model, you can see why I'm not crazy about how the Viper animates.

Thanks for posting the test sequences. I downloaded both, but can't get any visual on the AVI, just sound. The Mov worked fine though...

Its a nice shot, how long did it take you to animate the image into what we see as a movie ?

Looking forward to more

This probably took about 20 minutes to set up. Its a basic flying shot (frontal) which doesn't take much time to work up. Usually, I set up a scene like this and then render out three different shots. That usually involves two angles of the original ship, with different camera angles and motions for the second shot, and then a third render with a completely different ship replacing the original. So far, nobody has caught on ... of course now the secret is out.
