5. Action Alerts: For All Battlestar Galactica Fans

Post Office Mail the Universal Entertainment Group

PRESS RELEASE: "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (4-hour miniseries) - SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking and beloved series in which 'a rag, tag fugitive fleet' of the last remnants of mankind searches for its true home. Fleeing the aliens responsible for the slaughter of their homeworld, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a whole new set of challenges. This intriguing twist on a classic will be written by writer Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission Impossible II) with Breck Eisner (Steven Spielberg's Taken; The Invisible Man) attached to direct. Distributed by USA Cable Entertainment, the Project will be executive produced by David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Spy Game)." The new miniseries is a re-imagining, and not a continuation, of the original Battlestar Galactica series, and may not include the original cast, characters, and themes! Send a post office mail to the Universal Entertainment Group! For more information, visit our Battlestar Galactica revival information page.

Fans are encouraged to visit the new site, and boycott any sponsor of the "Battlestar Galactica" re-imagining mini-series scheduled for the Sci-Fi Channel in 2003. The boycott site includes a link to the new Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Advertiser Boycott Petition (which we've also included in the list of primary petitions, below.) Also, the site features an extensive list of current advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel, as well as a form letter that you can utilize. Help support the boycott of sponsors, and spread the word!

Petition #2 is the Battlestar Galactica DVD Petition to urge Vivendi Universal and Studios USA to seriously consider the release of ALL episodes of the original Battlestar Galactica television series on DVD/VHS formats. Petition #3 is the Battlestar Galactica New Series Petition aimed directly at the current Sci-Fi Channel happenings and utilizes stronger wording. Sign the four additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The four additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are also available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch Petition respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer, "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition, then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Management Petition requests a change in management at the Sci-Fi Channel. The petition urges the Sci-Fi Channel to focus more on sci-fi programming, including Battlestar Galactica, instead of broadcasting non sci-fi television shows, or axing sci-fi shows that have done well, such as Lexx and Farscape. The Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition is a humorous petition, but for a serious matter: Ron Moore's new Battlestar Galactica mini-series script for the Sci-Fi Channel calls for Starbuck to become a female! Starbuck, one of the original series' most popular characters, becomes Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the new mini-series, and "Starbuck" is merely her radio call sign. If you want Starbuck to remain a male and make your voice heard, be sure to sign the Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition. Finally, the Battlestar Galactica No Re-Imagining Petition is a succinct petition that supports Richard Hatch's "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" continuation concept over the Ron Moore re-imagining felgercarb. You can make a difference, so be sure to sign the four additional petitions, after you sign the five primary petitions!

Articles and Fan Fiction

Fourth Week of March, 2003

I'm happy to announce that all of the interactive storylines & role-playing game notes from Delphi Forums have been uploaded to our web site in the "Articles & Fan Fiction" section. This was a major project I've been working on over the past six months. Since Delphi Forums does not have the ability to export notes, all notes had to be manually copy-and-pasted, twenty notes at a time, into text files and then cleaned up with Microsoft Word. All notes have been posted to our web site in paragraph form. This means that all tabs, indents, and line breaks in each note have been replaced with a single space. That way each note from Delphi Forums only takes up one paragraph on the web site. This will make it a lot easier for newcomers and visitors to read our notes from Delphi, which are now classified as fan fiction. Also, personal signatures from Delphi have been removed from each note as well. Other than the spacing updates and removal of account signatures, all notes are otherwise intact. Each note will appear as originally written, and this includes any typos and spelling errors. Since there are thousands upon thousands of notes now published on our web site, I thought it better to keep all notes in the authors original format, rather than attempt to correct any spelling or grammatical errors. All interactive storylines & role-playing game notes from Delphi Forums were included in this project so there are no missing topics. Enjoy! Note: Our former 4-year home on DelphiForums.com had 8,590 posts from its opening day of 6/6/1998 to its closing day of 4/6/2002. Of the 8,590 posts, 4,726 notes were role-playing game notes, and 3,864 notes were other discussion notes.

Olmos Says New 'Galactica' is not for Old-Show Purists

MyInky.com has posted a new Battlestar Galactica mini-series article featuring Edward James Olmos, Commander William "Husker" Adama in the new mini-series. The new article is a must-read for Battlestar Galactican fans. As reported in the new article: "After a review of the script from this four-hour re-imagining was posted online (linked from www.battlestargalactica.com), the fan community cried foul. Olmos acknowledged that the new version, set to air late this year, won't appeal to everyone. 'If you're a staunch purist, then you won't like it,' he said in a phone interview last week. 'But if you're open to a new look at that situation, you might.'" Edward James Olmos also stated: "'There's no two ways around it,' Olmos said. 'If I were a purist, I wouldn't watch it. Don't waste your time. Get the old version on DVD. Don't hurt yourself. Don't go through the pain.'" For the complete article, be sure to check out the following link.

Along with 66 screen shots and the opening narration of the video game, the site reports: "The exclusive video clips were created by Hitoshi Kudo of the Galactica 2003 staff. Battlestar Galactica Fan Poll

A brand-new poll was announced by Warrior, co-admin of ColonialFleets.com: "Ok folks... just for informational purposes, I want to see, across the web, just what people are fans of in regards to Battlestar Galactica. I ask owners/Admins of other forum places (and I mean ALL of them) to run this poll on their sites too. Either link to this thread or copy and paste to your own forums. I am going to run this poll on a NEUTRAL polling site. Below are the definitions of what I think the various fan groups are. Vote as to which one you belong: 1. Original Battlestar Galactica CONCEPT fan. Likes all the concept ideas from the show. Doesn't matter who is playing in the lead roles. As long as the concepts are all there in the proper format. Doesn't care who produces/writes. 2. Original Battlestar Galactica ACTORS fan. Like the show for its concepts but MUST have the original actors intact in their proper roles. Doesn't care who produces/writes. 3. Re-written/re-make fan. Wants all new concepts and actors. Doesn't care for anything the original represented. Doesn't care who produces/writes. 4. Writer/Producer Fan (Moore). Likes what Ron Moore has written before, and will trust in anything he writes for BSG. 5. Writer/Producer Fan (DeSantos). Likes what Tom DeSantos has worked on before, and likes the ideas brought forth for a BSG Continuation. 6. Writer/Producer Fan (Larson). Likes what the creator of BSG brought forth in the BSG mythos, TOS, BSG-80 and an idea for a movie. 7. Writer/Producer Fan (Hatch). Likes the ideas Hatch brought forth with The Second Coming and follows Hatch due to his ideas for BSG and for his novels." The X2 Ticket-A-Thon 2003

A new web site has launched in support of Tom DeSanto's continuation of Battlestar Galactica! The web site announces: "IN 2001, Tom DeSanto and Bryan Singer embarked on a monumental task, to return the Classic Science Fiction Television Series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Their efforts were endorsed by many of the thousands of Fans of the Original Series, as well a members of the Original Cast and Crew. However, just weeks before shooting was to begin at the Studios in Canada, Bonnie Hammer, President of the SciFi Channel stopped Production, and handed the reins over to Former Star Trek Writer Ronald D. Moore. Their intention was to 're-imagine' Galactica into a cheaper, slicker, and sexier version, by recasting and changing much of what the Fans of Galactica had loved about the show. Tom DeSanto, a long time fan of Galactica was pushed out, in favor of a Star Trek-ized version of Galactica that bears little resemblance to the show Fans know and love. We want Universal Studios and Bonnie Hammer to know that not only do we support Tom DeSanto, but that we also support the faithful return of Battlestar Galactica that Tom DeSanto was going to deliver." For the complete information and how to participate, be sure to visit the new X2 Ticket-A-Thon 2003 web site!

Beginning Narration of the Prequel Video Game

Scifiman76 of Galactica2003.net has just posted the opening narration of the prequel video game: "There are those who believe in something they call free will, and there are others that believe in destiny. Legend tells how our ancestors arrived on the planet Kobol in twelve great space arks, carrying their fragile human cargo of human lives and hopes across the black deserts of the vast and hostile Universe, to build a heaven for them selves, there among the stars. The clever machines they built to serve them grew tired of their chains. They turned on human kind, murdering millions in a single night of blood and death. The great Colonial heroes of old fought back, forcing the machines into space. Exiling their twisted creations to the stars. Ten years ago, the skies over Caprica turned black once more with Cylon Raiders. They had returned... [Introduction of the theme music] For ten years, the Colonial survivors fought a vicious running war with the all-conquering machine empire of the Cylons. Ten years of rations. Ten years of genocide and loss. Ten years of fear. It is the end of the sixth millennium, in the era of the Cylon Wars. This is a time of the great Battlestars Columbia, Rycon, Atlantia, Pegasus, and Galactica..." To listen to the opening narration and updated theme music, check out the following link at Galactica2003.net.

To answer your most frequent question: We chose the Battlestar Galactica BBoard on which to test the new system because it's one of our busiest boards and because it's received the most complaints from you, the fans, about inappropriate content. In addition to our moderating the board, we ask that you please keep the discussion on topic. This board was created to discuss both the classic series and SCI FI's new miniseries, which is a re-imagining of the original. The debate about a re-imagining vs. a continuation has run its course, and new articles on the subject won't be posted. Battlestar Galactica is currently filming in Vancouver, B.C., and is scheduled to air in December 2003. We welcome discussion about it."

DVD Box Set update

New report from Galactica2003.net regarding the Battlestar Galactica DVD Set: "The good news is that Universal Studios Home Video is trying to get this thing out there by November instead of December. Also it will include a Glen A. Larson interview and no making of the mini series documentary. That documentary will be on the mini series DVD set for Feb 2004." Also reported: "Galactica 1980 has been remastered. There are plans to release it in 2004 as a box set but nothing finalized yet. There is even some talk about including them in the 25th Anniversary set and raising the set's price to $129 SRP. But as the months go by, things will get clearer. There are no plans to release the remastered set on VHS. DVD only."

Thumbs up You're welcome

Hi,

You're welcome! I usually only report updates in the newsletter, not other site issues. BTW, I'm still seeing red X's where all the images are supposed to be on the board. Is that a bandwidth issue? I turned off my firewall and banner ad blocker, and the images are still broken, so I was wondering if it's the site.

Hi,

Well, I just tweaked my Norton Firewall software. The firewall was blocking the URL referer for privacy reasons, so I enabled the referer and now CF displays fine again.
