My actual finished Revell '78 Galactica
Yeah, I thought I was done before, but after examining this site
http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=4124
I had to make adjustments. Anyway, here it is.
If anyone wants more pix, I'll do it.
In the mean time, I had to cut into the hull & create new bulkheads with kitbashed airplane parts... it was endless.
This is what I started with:
That's the way I built back when I got it (December '78).
Heh, only 33 years to finish it...

We'll sneak up on planet Carpeta, by coming around the dark side of the moon Leatheron!

Seriously, with ALL that work I put into it, it's still only about 80% accurate in general, and 40% accurate in detail.
Whatever. I made it; I love it.

A fine job nonetheless.

Still one of the nicer replicas out there by my reckoning. The Titanium die-cast is sadly lacking, and the Japanese model looks anorexic.
This one will hover just fine with me.

I totally agree about the Titanium die-cast model. That nose section especially just blows. I do love the Konami miniatures though...and it was a lot of what I based my Galactica CG model on.

Okay, I just looked at more pictures of it- it's pretty cool, actually, lots of detail- it just seems a little *flat-ish* to me. And these days, $50 + shipping is a little steep for a 5 inch replica IMO.

It doesn't seem like a bad kit and if I remember rightly that it was a pretty decent size. Nice to see a plastic model spaceship again.

I think they're pretty rare now. They were only made for a short time. I lucked out and got mine for about 20-25 a pop...but that was around the time of Hurricane Katrina too. (I bought them online when I was a Katrina evacuee up in Wisconsin.)

Believe me, Apolloisall did a nice job of really ramping up the detail of that model. The model of Galactica that was released had no detail on the side panels of the main hull....trust me...I know...I've got one.

Thanks!
But you know, the side detail was a traipse compared to creating the space between the center struts & the lower conduit. Hardest alteration I've ever done on an already-constructed model. Then the depressions in the front of the landing pods,
and the landing bay entrance enhancement...
Heck, I wasn't that dedicated to my frackin' Enterprise model!!!

Thanks again! It's so nice to be here- the folks at my other sites just go "Yeah, it's okay."
They have no real appreciation for one of THE the most dynamic & original BIG starships ever (All due respect to Enterprise).

Sorry, it just seemed appropriate. I'm twisted that way.
Good that you're okay from that mess.

Thanks, Apolloisall...LOL!
I lucked out on return too. The only thing I lost was a nice sleeper couch that my friend had given to me as an apartment-warming present.

OMG! I just visited "Bruce's Domain" & found tons of detail I left out...
My "actual finished Galactica" is undergoing a final work-over, I'm afraid...
Pictures tomorrow!

Re: My actual finished Revell '78 Galactica
That is a very fine job you've done. You've given that model far more detail than Revell ever envisioned (cheap bastiches..LOL). That is an awesome detailing job!

Re: My actual finished Revell '78 Galactica
Thanks muchly, Martok!
I've been working on it since before Christmas- every time I thought I was done, I'd discover some little bunch of details I overlooked... I'm sure I'll discover more, but they'll be really small stuff not really affecting the overall look of the ship. Jeepers, I know more about her design now than I ever did before!!!
Your turn. We need more of YOUR fine work!!!
