Default That 70's Hair

Something always puzzles me. I have seen many posts here and at Skiffy denigrating the 70's elements of the original BSG, especially the hair. But someone please clarify this to me, why do these slightly long, feathered hair styles seem to be so offensive to some? To me, Richard and Dirk look their absolute best in those styles. I would have no problem at all seeing these in a new SciFi show.

The thing that puzzles me is, would /anybody/ rather see them with ring-around-the-cranium scalped sides and a putting green on top, like these kids are wearing now? Is it really just me, or are hair styles much more bizarre and unlikable today? I'll bet in 10 years, grown kids will be laughing themselves to death looking back at these styles.

And how the heck could our Warriors run with their pants hanging around their ankles? That would certainly be up with today's look, but somehow I have yet to see anyone on screen with that style.

Of course, I'm being humorous on purpose, no offense meant to anyone. I just have this sense that there is a much better chance of 70's hair being acceptable 20 or 30 years from now than current styles today... what'd'ya think?

If BSG had to have an era look, I think the most agreeable was the one it captured.

Named after that groovy, righteous, outta sight daggit,

While I am partial to the hair of BSG, mostly because mine coincidently resembles Apollo's, it is a bit dated. It is just a fun subject. To people like Moore, he's just taking his shots where he can. Pay him no mind.

When people make fun of BG cause of its hair is a sure sign you found a troll.

To discount BG cause it had reflecting the period it was made is the same as saying 2001 is a bad movie cause the first spaceship you see has the PanAm logo on the tail. And we know there were no PanAms flying in 2001.

Its just a lame insult. Its just signs of someone without any solid ground trying to start an argument.

Not to mention that any one of the trolls laughing about 70's hair who saw the original series when it aired actually had 70's hair... and what about 80's hair

I love the avatar I've seen, can't remember whose it was, with Richard Hatch and Ron Moore, Richard from the 70's and Ron from today, and both have the SAME HAIR! Hilarious!

Anybody who makes fun of Richard's and Dirk's hair doesn't know two good looking men when they see them.

It doesn't matter what period of time I have watched BSG (70's, 80's, 90's 2000's) the guys always look great!

That was the 70's....enough said about the style. Now the more interesting question here is....Can anyone name the episode where Starbuck's hair changed length mid-episode? One scene he has long hair and the next he is talking to a crewman and Dirk must have just had a hair-cut. To give you more of a hint- Starbuck talk the computer tech into joining a party that was going on and claimed he would watch his station (when he really was searching the Galactica computers for something).

If no one gets it right I will post the answer next week.

Yep, that's gotta be it Trevor. Starbuck had to sidetrack the computer tech so he could add his name to the list of the away party going down to the ice planet. (Another cool character development!)

Hi Domiano, I noticed Dirk's hair too, I just forgot which ep it was in. Makes sense though, they must've had a barber on the ship to keep everyone's hair feathered nicely!

Well if you remember Muffy, that scene where he changes his qualifications on the computer, as sits down he has a fight with his hair. Maybe this is what prompted the new do! LOL

We have a WINNER!!!! Trevor Angelus.

I watched Gun on Ice Planet Zero again last night and noticed some more hair raising scenes. I originally thought it was just one scene that was fraked up but was amused to find that the entire episode had Dirk's hair going from long to short and back again.

Default I love the scene

where Starbuck's "fighting with his hair" as Trevor put it. I always want to be the one smoothing it back from his face. Oh just to run my fingers though those golden highlighted strands...

Default The Theory Was Back in the 70's

Was that Ultra-violet rays killed the hair follicles. The hair was worn longer to protect the hair folicles, thus preventing the onset of premature baldness. Of course in the 21st Century, we now know that premature baldness is due to primarily to genetics and that hair length blocking UV rays is an urban legend that gets cooked up on long bus trips back from track meets. BUT( just in case), I am keeping my hair top of the collar long.

Default Hair and other Dated Elements

Say what you will about the original Galactica, but at least nobody was wearing contemporary clothing (which many- almost all- of the extras did in the mini).

The "70's hair" insult is just so much daggit drivel by people who can't think of anything more subsatntive to say. Everything must be "new" for them, because they have the depth of a fishbowl. You watch...in 10 years, the folks now raving over this atrocity will be saying how "00's" it looks, and how the effects are so cheesy and lame. Babling brooks.

Give it a chance....

After all, it took you nearly 8 years to find this thread again.

I think some of the hair is coming back. Justin Bieber and the Zach and Cody twins on Disney.

If I want to O.D. on 70s hair, I just pop in my Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew mysteries. So dated, yet still so family friendly. (Thanks, Glen).

The seventies styles are definitely back, just slight variations on them. Guess it depends on your perception.

When I first saw Bieber, I thought it was an early Beatles' haircut!

Love the Apollo and Starbuck hair, and reading what I saw above, I am just glad that they had this show in 1978 and not 1983. :|
