Default The Polar Express

Went to see the Polar Express today and thought it was awesome. The computer animation is pretty remarkable. If the sophistication of the animation keeps moving ahead at this pace, real actors are going to be in some trouble in about ten years. Very nice story.

Cranky -

Polar Express is out already? I just saw my first preview of it on a DVD I rented from Blockbuster...

You're right, the CGI looks fantastic - I was very impressed with what little I saw! If the film is at theaters already, I know what I'm gonna go see this weekend!

Thanks for the review!

Bryan

btw, isn't this the same technique used for Smeagol/Gollum, in LOTR? Is there a specific name for the technique?

Thank you so much, Bryan.

Outstanding! (I'm in luck, my wife REALLY wants to see it. Hmm, looks like maybe we're going to have a date.)

Tom Hanks was on the Letterman show recently. He mentioned his former "Bosom Buddies" co-star, Peter Scolari is in the movie. Sounds like a mini-Bosom Buddies reunion without the dresses.

Polar Express is AWESOME! My jaw kept dropping so much I think I left it in the 7th row of the theatre

It's so real it's spooky. The story is outstanding, and the voices are top notch. My fam' and I loved it to death...

The animation is top notch, but my wife says that the North Pole is too dark and scary for a Christmas movie...

I didn't think it was dark, I think it was heart warming. Now small children (5 and under may think it is scarry due to the ghost on the train). My son was 9 when he saw it and fell in love with the movie.

The new Charlie and the choco factory is way darker.

We took my son to see "Polar Express" last year when he was just four and he didn't find any of it scary. He's a big train fan, tho, so loved pretty much every second of the movie. They'll be getting that one for Christmas this year.

Same technique, but I've never seen a 'name' for it.

Its also the one Tom Hanks is playing 7 or 8 different parts.

When it was reviewed here, the critic thought the choice of story was a bit of a waste of the potential of the technique, since the plot was slow and drawn out. Might just be that its not a 'traditional' kids story down here, so it doesn't have sentimental attachment. I think Chicken Little is going to have the same prob.

Cheers,
Lara
