Default What Do I Buy For An 18 Year Old Birthday Gal?

Okay, so check this out, my cousin who adopted me as her brother when my mom was in the hospital, asked me to come to her 18 year old daughter's birthday on Thursday night. This young girl who was/is my cousin, is now according to definition of the brother adoption, my niece. I've never had an 18 year old neice before, and it has been many many many years since I've purchased a gift for an 18 year old birthday girl. So the obvious question is, which I hope that someone here can give me advice for, is what should I buy for my 18 year old cousin/niece's birthday? Anyone have an good ideas for someone like me who doesn't even like to go shopping and has only one and a half more evenings to find something?

Yup call your "sister" and ask her what her daughter would like! No shame in that and you'll save a lot of time! Mom will have ideas they always do!

But if you don't like that idea get her a gift certificate for a mall then she can pick out something she likes ( clothes or makeup etc.)

Or since your a photographer offer to take a portrait photograph of her or her and her best friends as a nice keepsake with a personal touch.

My little cousin is 21 and so I have had years of pratice in this department

But All girls are not the same, so... I would go with Rowans advice and ask mom first.

If that doesn't work what my cousin really loved was what I got her for her 16th birthday. In the begining I didn't mean for it to become a tradition but it has ended up as one that I keep adding to as the years go by.
It was a gold charm that had sweet 16 on it. She wears it as a bracelet. I have since added to her collection with a #18, #21, Cheerleading, graduation charm, Palm tree and a boquet of flowers. She says it is her favorite because it was given to her by her older "Sis" and everytime she wears it she has me with her. She says it is " her milestone of memories"
This year she is getting a nursing hat to add to her collection
She's just been accepted to nursing school!

Some other ideas are lotions and scents from Bath and Body or Victoria Secret, a gift card would work well so she could pick out what she wants. My cousin loves those things as well.

Hope this helped~~~

if you cannot find something that you know she would like I do think the idea of a gift certificate is a good one. Teens are very hard to buy for. Believe me, I am another voice of experience. I have a niece and a brother who are 18, a sister who is turning 17 and a nephew who will be 14 two days after my bday! I usually go the gift certificate route!

Prince William.

However, if he's not free, maybe a large supply of cellphone airtime?

Thanks for your answers everyone. I did call her mom, but I got her voice mail so I'm waiting for a call back.

Prince William! Ha! I'm sure I could afford to rent him for a weekend. Not.

Isn't there a sex toy called a Prince William?

Tommy not sure...Is it a piercing or something?

AAANNNNNYYYWAAAYS.... I would suggest a gift certificate at a music store. Haven't met a teenager yet that didn't like buying music. And it will keep her from downloading the album.

I can see it now, 14th walks into Buckingham palace and orders 1 Prince William for an 18 year old girl.

I can see William going for it, but his Grandmum may have a few nasty things to say to the renter.

LOL, I'd smack the old hag. I'm still holding a grudge on her for using me as a plaything. I'm not one of the peasants, damn it!

So get this: I talked to her mom about what I should get for her, and she helped me narrow it down to a maintainable list. She said "She's a girl, she likes everything." Arrgghhhhh!!!!!

That's it, I'm just going to slip her some money. All girls love money.

And so, I gave her a very nice card and slipped her $20. She was very happy.
