Iomega REV Backup Drive - WAY WAY COOL!

Hi all!

Not sure what forum to put this in (?). One thing that's always been a problem for me, finding a reliable, (and affordable) backup device for my dev PC(s). Long, long ago, I started out with a 40MB Syquest drive. That was okay for pre-windows days, but not much use after that. Then I went to an Iomega ZIP drive, which was neat for its day but beaucoup slow (parallel I/O) ! As PC files got bigger and bigger, I had to drop that one and go for an Iomega JAZ drive. Now that was cool. Lightning fast Scuzzy speeds and removeable 1GB drives, how could ya go wrong? But these last 2 years it just didn't cut it. As Microsoft and friends keep creating bigger and bigger data files, 1GB just isn't enough.

And then I found it.

Teh new Iomega REV drive is something you just GOTTA have. 35GB of removeable media!!! (90 compressed). 20x faster than any other backup device I've seen - and with the freedom and simplicity of USB!!! It's actually /faster/ than my internal drive -- I copied 54MB in like 2 and a half seconds, wow!! And the disks can be bought for a paltry $59!!! Ooh, I think I'm in love!!

So if ya need a good backup device (and who doesn't), try this puppy out for size. At $399 undiscounted, it's well worth the money, believe me. I can now backup /everything/ on my system. It even comes with Norton Ghost so you can /really/ protect yourself.

Get a REV folks! It's way cool!



P.S. Thomas, I finally broke down and got a jump/flash drive. VERY nice. perfect for laptop to desktop xfers! Thanks for the advice!!!

Hun, you can post anywhere you want! One of the benefits of paying the bills!!! Who are any of us to say different.



Oh gawd... syquest...... many a file I did send to press on those metal and plastic removables that clang like a bell. I remember a co-worker just tilting one of those back and forth listening to it clang! Man, I had to ask her "Do you really want to do THAT with our artwork?" "This won't hurt it will it?" "I dunno...but our data is going CLANG!"

Sadly...I still am at the DVD backup stage. Its that or nothing. My drives are too big.

Luckily, I've only had one catastrophic failure of a hard drive and a loss of all data. I had a few others that had read write errors. But never a full on loss except that one you guys may remember.

Man... I remember when 100K was alot of data.....

I remember when Macs didn't really have a hard drive to speak of and watching someone work Pagemaker 1.0, myself doing Illustrator 88 tutorials.

Yep, things have sure come a long way. We used to build apps using devkits on floppies, yuck! We had to swap disks like 10 times, just to make one executable build!! We always kept a game computer nearby and had fun playing that while we waited 20 minutes to an hour for a single compile.
I also remember when there were no floppies... ah, the joys of punched cards and paper tape!!! I used to put holiday jokes on tape and then switch 'em with work tapes before everyone came in. They would load the tape thinking it was work stuff, then it would print out Christmas tree jokes and so forth. The first video monitors had a "local" mode, so I would switch to that and draw a PacMan screen to fool everybody.

<Sigh>, give me a stylus and clay tablet anyday!!
