At random listened to some BSG music for the first time in ages, then checked into another forum for the first time in months to see this news and well, it's devastating. Can't believe it really.

Damn pancreatic cancer. Taken too many good people and is an invariable death sentence when diagnosed. Horrible news... RIP Captain Apollo. Be one with the Ship of Lights and the Lords of Kobol.

137th, I agree with you. I lost an aunt to this disease last summer and to hear this sad news this morning brought back the feeling of devastation I felt at that time.

So sad that he is gone but he is with the Ship of Lights now and at peace.

RIP Captain Apollo, you will be greatly missed!

I actually met him, along with Dirk Benedict, a couple of years ago at a Comic Con, both were very nice people. Richard Hatch was very much into talking about the show and hearing fans thoughts and ideas, he actually gave me his e-mail to continue the discussions, I'm not sure how many other actors would have done that? I look back now, I'm so glad I had a chance to meet him. It's very sad!

I met Richard many times beginning in 1999 when he was touting his version of the comeback for BSG. Got to the point where he recognized me quite easily and I could just talk with him personally. It was a great high point in my life to have gotten to know him, even for just a little bit over the years.

Am totally shocked that my favorite actor from BSG has passed on to the ship of lights.

Rest in peace, Richard. You brought many smiles and good times to us BSG fans and if you made our world a little bit better, then you did good. God Bless...

Default his obituary?

Has anyone found Richard's actual obituary? I'm referring to the actual funeral/death notice. I looked in the Los Angeles Times and didn't see one yet. I wondered if there was a place to send memorials to (like the American Cancer Society, etc.).

Last night, I put in my CD of the BSG soundtrack and when those soaring notes hit from the main theme, I have to tell you it was hard to fight back some tears.

I have always considered BSG my childhood, that along with Star Wars. But every week, we had a new BSG episode. We could play along with our favorite heroes Apollo and Starbuck all the time.

I remember my old elementary school buddy would come over to my house and we would play BSG, I would be Starbuck and he would play Apollo (because he had darker hair than me!) Such fun.

THis is such a loss to me. It's like a piece of my childhood has really died. I guess that's because it has...

Default Just saw it myself

And like nightscape, came here to verify.

May God have mercy on his soul.

Too bad he never got his ideas onto film, but the books were enough for me.

Fair winds and following seas, Richard!

A shame. I wish whoever blasted this all over social media BEFORE the family was ready to make it public, gets sued. Dealing with the death of a loved one is hard enough. Having to deal with all the news outlets trying to confirm it, before you're ready, has to be even worse.

Anyway, I'm off my soapbox. For those that care to, the family set up a guestbook for Richards fans at his website: http://richardhatch.com/

Default Yahoo News article

The best article I've found so far is this one, from Yahoo Movies/Hollywood Reporter. It's the only one I've found that has some information on the pancreatic cancer.

Default time magazine

Since my mother has a subscription to Time, I found a brief mention of Richard's death in the Milestones of the Feb. 20 issue. It's just a short paragraph.
Did People magazine do an article about Richard? If it is, I would like to buy a copy.

Default people feb 27

There was an even briefer mention of Richard's death in the Feb. 27 issue of People (Duggars on the cover). I would have thought there would have been a longer tribute, since he'd been featured in the magazine several times and it would have been wasy for the staff to look him up.

It's a sad thing. I'm glad his last role was the kind he always seemed to want: imperfect with lots of space to flesh out the character to make them real. R.I.P. Richard.

You mean the part he was doing in the Star Trek: Axanar fan film? He was playing the Klingon Chancellor.

Been meaning to come in here and post about Richard's passing, but up until now my mind kept clouding up and going blank. I met him at Dragoncon several times, his Battlestar panel was one of the highlights of the convention for me. I loved the Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming, it gave me hope for a continuation of the original although it wasn't meant to be. His involvement in the reimagined BSG was a great performance as Zarek. I had high hopes for his Great War of Magellan project, and am grateful for what there is of it, but still bummed that there likely wont be anything further from it. Speaking with him at Dragoncon, the few times I saw him, was wonderful. It's kinda cliche to say it, but he truly was a class act, and he embraced a shared love of the science fiction genre with myself and every other fan I saw him speak with. I miss him, as we all do, and still get choked up and teary eyed, and then I put in the original Battlestar Galactica, and I feel like a kid again... home in the stars, on the run from the Cylons... in that ragtag fleet on a lonely quest for a shining planet known as Earth.

I raise my horn full of mead, Ambrosia, the Nectar of the Gods, and salute you, all hail Apollo.
