A Note from the Editor

Welcome to the August, September, and October 2004 Edition of the Colonial Newsletter. September was an exciting month in that the Colonial Fan Force published the first magazine ad in Variety magazine. The second magazine ad will be published shortly in Cinescape magazine. Congratulations to the Colonial Fan Force and all the fans who contributed money and effort to make this happen. The next step is to write the studio heads to tell them about the ads and what you want to see in a continuation of the Battlestar Galactica original series. Be sure to visit ColonialFanForce.org for more information. Lots of Battlestar Galactica news on the Internet is included in this edition of the Colonial Newsletter. Also be sure to check out the Cylonix 18 Channel Vocodor for Windows that is now available as Freeware instead of Shareware.

Thumbs up NEWS: Colonial Newsletter - 10/01/2004

(Continued)

UPDATED OCT. 1ST! With the publishing of the Colonial Fan Force ad in Daily Variety on 17 September 2004, and the imminent release of the Fall issue of Cinescape magazine, the focus of the Colonial Fan Force mission has shifted from fundraising to letter writing. That according to Colonial Fan Force President Bill Gordon. "Now that the ads are out there, there is increasing awareness of this effort," said Gordon. "There's been a small spike in hits at the Colonial Fan Force website, and we expect that to increase once Cinescape hits the stands." Gordon notes that this is not the time for fans to sit back and rest on the laurels of there fundraising victory. "The ads were always considered just to be 'phase one,'" Gordon said. "The fans knew from the beginning that once the ads hit, it was going to be time to write start writing the letters we urged in the ads. That time has come. That time is now." For those who just don't have the time to compose an original letter or postcard, the Colonial Fan Force has prepared form letters which can be downloaded from the Colonial Fan Force website at the following link. For those who would rather write an original letter or postcard, the addresses are also at the following link. "I feel good about where the campaign is right now," added Gordon. "Hollywood has seen firsthand evidence of the continued devotion to the original, true Battlestar Galactica, and soon, through Cinescape, everyday fans will become aware of what we're trying to accomplish." Gordon says he expects the word to be spread through other sources, as well. "Within two weeks of the ad coming out," said Gordon, "some enterprising entrepreneur was already selling copies of the Daily Variety ad on eBay." "But the main thing, right now," summarized Gordon, "is for everybody to write. And that's the message I'm trying to get out right now." Sign the Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions

Sign the Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions and show your support for a continuation of the Battlestar Galactica original series! The first petition is the Battlestar Galactica Original Revival Petition for Tom DeSanto, Bryan Singer, Dan Angel, Billy Brown, Glen A. Larson, Dan Pasternack, David Kissinger, Studios USA, Vivendi Universal, Sci-Fi Channel, and the Fox Network and states that We, the fans of the original 1978 sci-fi television series "Battlestar Galactica" are signaling our sincere hopes that original cast members (and their characters) are considered for regular roles in the new "Battlestar Galactica" pilot/ongoing series from Studios USA/Fox Network/Sci-Fi Channel in 2002. This is the Battlestar Galactica Original Revival Petition and currently has 17,400+ signatures. We still support this petition, so be sure to sign your name! The second petition is the Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch Petition and respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer, "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition, then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The third petition is the Battlestar Galactica We The Fans Petition and states that We the fans of the mighty Battlestar Galactica would like to see the combined work of Tom DeSanto and Glen Larson in a major motion picture. As fans we also hope and pray that these two men can bring about a possible continuation with both the characters and actors that made the show a worth while venture. We don't ask for much but hope for a show that will make those who passed proud (Lorne Greene, Lloyd Bridges, Jonathan Harris, and John Colicos). Finally we believe that actions can speak louder then the printed words and hope that both men will take this request to heart. The fourth petition is the Battlestar Galactica: The Continuation Petition and states that The word has been given at Galacticon. The fans want above all else a continuation of the beloved series with Richard Hatch (Apollo), Dirk Benedict (Starbuck), and as many of the other stars of the show who want to participate. I don't believe we are asking for to much as evidenced by the huge DVD sales for the original product. The fifth petition is the Battlestar Galactica Larson/DeSanto Petition for Mr. Glen A. Larson, Mr. Tom DeSanto, Mr. Bob Wright CEO of NBC, Universal Studios and states that We the fans have signed this petition to show support for a Continuation of Battlestar Galactica with the original themes/characters/cast intact, as was announced at Glen A. Larson and Tom DeSanto at Galacticon. We support a united Larson/DeSanto effort. This petition begins December 10th 2003, which is one day after the final installment of the Ronald D. Moore Psuedo-Galactica mini series which aired on the Sci Fi Channel, to show that even after it's airing, there is still support and interest in a faithful Continuation of the original Battlestar Galactica series. Make a difference, be sure to sign the five Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions, and help spread the word!

Audio Clips and Music

Fourth Week of July, 2004

Added the Battlestar Galactica Audio Continuation from T. Shawn Hardy, "The Return of a Hero", to the Audio Clips and Music section. Shawn describes the Audio Continuation as: "Twenty yahrens ago, Captain Apollo introduced the great Celestial Chamber to a few of his closest friends in the last episode that was titled 'The Hand of God'. Now, as the Commander, he is sitting high up in the same chair he once occupied. He reminisces back to that time and all that took place thereafter. Now twenty yahrens after The Hand of God, with one distress signal coming from a portal that has mysteriously opened up in space, Commander Apollo is forced to chose between losing his best friend and losing his only son. The Return of a Hero reunites the original cast along with new characters that are voiced by some of the original Battlestar Galactica fan base. With elements from the original Battlestar Galactica along with The Return of Starbuck and Richard Hatch's Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming, The Return of a Hero is a must for any Battlestar Galactica fan to hear." For the complete Audio Continuation, be sure to visit the following link in the Audio Clips and Music section at BattlestarGalacticaClub.com! Many thanks to T. Shawn Hardy as well as those that participated in the project.

Colonial Fan Force Magazine Ad Published!

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

New report from Commander Taggart of ColonialFanForce.org on September 30th: "Yeppers! I just got back from the Vesuvius Post Office where a little package from Variety has been waiting for me. As I carried the package back to the house, I felt like I was a little kid again, having just received some plastic bauble from the Johnson C. Smith Company ordered from the back of a Fantastic Four comic book. I very carefully ripped away the large manila envelope covering, which had been torn in several places during its coast-to-coast journey. Fortunately, none of the magazines inside had been damaged. I began flipping through the pages of the magazine on top... past pages of articles and other full-page ads for television shows and movies. Finally, I arrived at page 19. And there it was. And it was beautiful." Congratulations to the Colonial Fan Force and Battlestar Galactica fans for making the magazine ad happen! This is only an excerpt of Commander Taggart's report, so be sure to check out the following link at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums for the complete report.

Battlestar Galactica Titan Comic Book Delayed

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

The classic Battlestar Galactica comic book from Titan Comics, Battlestar Galactica: Saga of a Star World, has been delayed to January 2005. Amazon.com describes the comic book as follows: "Before Star Trek: The Next Generation, Farscape and Stargate SG-1, there was 1980s cult TV series Battlestar Galactica: the smash-hit sci-fi show that rocked the spaceways with its legendary stories, memorable villains and awesome hair styles! This classic comic-strip adaptation tells the story of the very first episodes of the hit TV series. After a surprise attack by battle droids, the Cylons, the human race faces extinction. Now the last remaining warship, the Battlestar Galactica, leads a ragtag refugee fleet across a savage galaxy in a desperate search for that one glimmer of hope amongst the stars — the planet Earth!" Thanks to Kingfish for posting the report at the Battlestar Pacifica forum.

New announcement from Hive4Media.com: "TV shows on DVD are the fastest-growing sector of the DVD market, and they are forever changing the way we watch TV. Here's your chance to vote on the best TV DVD releases of the past year! A panel of judges took a look at more than 150 entries submitted by the studios and independent suppliers, released between September 1, 2003, and August 31, 2004, and narrowed the choices down to three nominees in each of the 12 categories. Now we're asking you to help select the overall winner in each category! Simply click on one of the three nominees in each of the 12 categories and when you're done press 'submit.' A very important reminder: please base your decision not on the actual show, but on the DVD treatment-- special features, menus, ease of navigation, packaging, sound and picture, etc. The voting period is September 19 through October 2. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 19, during the Second Annual TV DVD Conference at the Century Plaza Hotel & Spa in Century City, California." Let the Media know about Daily Variety Ad

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

New report from Commander Taggart of ColonialFanForce.org: "For those who wish to participate, I'd like to see if we can generate interest through numbers from the broadcast media for Friday's publication of the Colonial Fan Force ad in Daily Variety. I have been sending press releases since day one, and have just sent reminders to the entire Colonial Fan Force media list. In order to keep it easy on everyone (and therefore hopefully increase participation), I'm going to ask that we narrow our focus on the morning shows (and CNN), which have broad enough formats that we just might get a mention. Start sending tonight, and send straight on through tomorrow (Thursday) night. For GMA and CNN, you'll need to use the online submission forms. Here are the addys and URL's." October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

New report from Richard Hatch's official webmistress Micheleh: "The artist of the month images are back... I've set up an artists' gallery, which is under development. I want each artist to have their own page, with images, bio, photo, and a downloadable resume, if they want. Everyone who has been an AOM should have a page already. If you don't have one yet and want one, let me know! There is also a similar modelers section, and a plastic modelers section, and all will be developed the same way. I will also be looking to interview people in the future on the tricks of the trade." It mentions Randi Oakes, who played the Tauran woman in the Battlestar Galactica pilot episode and who is better known from her role [as Officer Bonnie Clark] on CHiPs. (The article is mainly about her husband, Gregory Harrison, who is in a play in Indianapolis.) The thing about the article that I thought was most interesting was that you learned what the actors who appeared on Battle of the Network Stars got paid. Most of the Galactica cast appeared on it at one time or another. $20,000 was a lot of money in the late 70s." For the complete article, be sure to check out the following link at IndyStar.com. Thanks to Mary (skippercollector) for posting the report at Colonial Fleets.

Viper Pilots Web Site Updated

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

Battlestar Galactica software writer Tanj posted a new report on his Pyramid tribute game: "Hello Warriors! I was immediately informed of a scoring bug in Pyramid... that has been resolved, but more importantly, the appearance and A.I. performance have been greatly improved also. Development of Pyramid took me away from Colonial Warrior for a bit, but I believe the current version of Pyramid is stable and very playable, so I'll be getting back to Colonial Warrior right away. Of course I appreciate bug reports and comments on any of my applications, so feel free to point out any problems you may encounter. I would also like to take this moment to congratulate Colonial Fan Force for the excellent work they have done to promote 'the continuation'. As the new month approaches I hope to hear the buzz increase as Hollywood (I live in L.A. so the buzz should be clearly audible) is made aware of the dedication, organization and admiration 'continuation' advocates have exhibited." Many thanks to Tanj for the update. To visit his Viper Pilots Web Site be sure to check out the following link at AAA-Multimedia.com.

The works, which are priced $500-$3,000, will be on display for a week before the event; pieces purchased in that week will secure a spot at a luncheon with the actress on Oct. 16, as well as a personal signature on the painting and a signed 8x10 portrait with her. A portion of the sales will benefit three charities, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Ohio Valley Chapter, the Auxiliary of the Jewish Hospital and Crayons to Computers. There will also be a benefit cocktail reception on Oct. 15, cocktails and dinner on Oct. 16 and a brunch on Oct. 17. Reservations are required (513-321-1800).' Report of Stu Phillips London Seminar on August 18th

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

New report from Fox at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums: "Hi everyone! I was lucky enough to have attended the seminar hosted by none other than Stu Phillips at the British Composer's Association in London on Wednesday. I have to say he was a real gent and very funny, he was promoting his new book 'STU WHO?' which he signed for everyone and even added the opening bars to the main Galactica theme in each book personally. I had no idea just how prolific this man's career was and surprised to learn of his influence during the 60's producing such classics as 'Blue Moon' and many others. I managed to get some things signed by him including my British Galactica quad (just a few more signatures before I get it framed!) and a rare Japanese pressing of the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack on vinyl. He was happy to oblige and spent time with each fan and offered to take us all to the pub afterwards and buy each of us a drink - what a guy! Sadly we didn't have time as we had a train to catch, but I fulfilled a dream by finally meeting the man who has written some of the greatest scores in television and film history. There was one more surprise - when we left the building I noticed a huge black car parked outside reception - it was none other than KITT from Knight Rider, and it was one of the actual screen used cars to boot! What a great day and I highly recommend Stu's book." Thanks to Fox for the awesome report of original Battlestar Galactica composer Stu Phillips. And be sure to check out Stu Phillips official web site at StuWho.com.

Cylonix 18 Channel Vocodor for Windows is Freeware

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

The long-running Cylonix 18 Channel Vocodor for Windows is now available as Freeware instead of Shareware. The program author James Clark made his program available for free download with the following caveat: "This program is no longer being supported. Don't send me any email about it. Read the help file. The full program (with no copy protection) can be found at the following link." With the free Cylonix 18 Channel Vocodor you can make your own Cylon speech on your personal computer and it will sound just like the Cylons of the Battlestar Galactica television series. Many thanks to James Clark for making the program freely available, and thanks to Gregg Eshelman for posting the announcement on the Battlestar Galactica Discussion List.

A Battlestar Galactica Continuation: It's About Us

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

New report from Peter Noble of ColonialFanForce.org: "That's right, as soon as Battlestar Galactica went off air with the showing of The Hand of God on April 29, 1979, that's when our fandom started the campaign for a continuation of the original story. We couldn't accept Galactica 1980 and we can't accept nuGalactica as neither one rings true to the original work that was laid down by all those who gave Battlestar Galactica form. Before Hatch, Larson, DeSanto, Singer, Hammer, Moore and Eick ever emerged to bring the concept back in some way it was we who stayed true and wrote those letters and signed petitions and waited. We're still waiting. Ours may be rag tag fandom of many differing opinions, but we've all worked together by supporting the Colonial Fan Force to give it one last roll of the dice. It's the greatest thing we as fans have ever done. Never think that you don't matter, keep on supporting TOS in any form you can and stay true to what you've loved and supported for nearly 26 years. I won't be watching nuGalactica, I'll not give them a ratings point, hell, they can stunt cast every TOS actor still breathing but it won't make me watch, because I know deep down that's the one thing TPTB fear, is that no one/or not enough people will watch. I've drawn my line in the sand and with Colonial Fan Force I've helped make the strongest possible statement I as a consumer can make. I'd urge every TOS fan to hold the line because united we stand, divided we fall." Many thanks to Peter Noble for posting the very well-written report at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums.

Detailed Report of July San Diego Comic-Con

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

Battlestar Galactica fan Artemis posted a detailed report of the July San Diego Comic-Con that featured Richard "Apollo" Hatch, Stargate SG-1/Atlantas, and Farscape. Here is an excerpt from Artemis' report: "Richard Hatch was given 1.5 hours on Friday at Comic-con during which he presented The Great War of Magellan (GWoM) trailer and The Second Coming trailer. The GWoM trailer was great, he only showed his shorter version, 4 minutes. The artist for the GWoM comic was a couple seats from me and spent the entire time sketching, it was amazing watching a talented artist work, especially since I can't draw a thing. He also showed The Second Coming trailer which was longer than the one I saw many years ago. For those of you who haven't seen it, I'm sorry, your missing out on what you have wanted Battlestar Galactica to become. He spent much of the time answering questions and the other hot topic is his upcoming role on Battlestar Galactica 04. He had previously refused to do a cameo role on the show because he refuses to do cameos on anything but he told RDM that if he wrote a character he found interesting to play as an actor he would do it and RDM did write a character he wanted to play. He was nervous about meeting the crew in Canada considering all the hate mail they got because of him and was surprised by the warm welcome they all gave him. Jamie Bamber explained to Richard that he considered himself to be Lee Adama and that Richard was and would always be Apollo." For the complete report, be sure to check out the following link at Colonial Fleets.

Colonial Fan Force in Your Hands Now

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

New announcement from Commander Taggart of ColonialFanForce.org: "The future is in the hands of all fandom. I will say this, however: if any of us sits back and says to himself 'I've already done enough, let someone else write,' then we will fail to make an impact. If any of us says 'I just don't have the time, someone else will write,' then we will fail to make an impact. It really is up to you. The ads are going to make more people than ever before aware of our effort, and, God willing, it will drive a lot of traffic to the Colonial Fan Force site, where the plan will be outlined. The opportunity we will have to demonstrate our numbers will be unprecedented. September is nearly here. The culmination of all of our efforts is upon us. One of two things is going to happen: we, as a fan base, are going to shock Hollywood with a larger show of support for TOS than they ever expected; or we are going to confirm in their minds that at our best, we are but a mere handful. I want to thank everyone who has played a part in making the Colonial Fan Force a success over the course of the past year, either by contributing money, or by contributing talent, ideas, and time. Here's hoping this fan base has enough chutzpah left to make this 'last hurrah' one that will echo through the cinema ticket windows of the world." Many thanks to Commander Taggart for the very well-written announcement. This is only an excerpt, so for the complete announcement be sure to visit the following link at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums.

Nitpicker's Guide to Battlestar Galactica 2003 - Volume 1

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster

Lighthope posted his "Nitpicker's Guide to Battlestar Galactica 2003 - Volume 1" article at Colonial Fleets: "The purpose of any Nitpicker's Guide is not to review, but to engage in the delightful lunacy that fascinates any [...] fanboy: to nitpick to death every inconsistency, leap of logic, and outright impossibility to the point that even God himself would have needed a microscope to find. We've seen these tomes in the guise of The DisContinuity Guide to Doctor Who, as well as Nitpicker's Guide to Star Trek and NPG to Star Wars. [...] Within this work you'll certainly not find a complete list of 'What the Feldercarbs' (a word sadly missing from the lexicon on the new series), and I'm sure there are some plausible explanations for some of the items noted. But so what? It's all in fun. So with that in mind, I now present to you the first in what will hopefully be a long and happy series to compliment a long and happy series: Battlestar Galactica and it's companion, The Nitpicker's Guide to Battlestar Galactica, Volume 1 – The Pilot." It is very important to remember the following:

BattlestarGalacticaClub.com DOES NOT send out e-mail attachments. PERIOD. If you receive an e-mail that is purportedly from BattlestarGalacticaClub.com and it contains an e-mail attachment, DELETE IT! Any e-mail attachment from any user should be considered suspect, as this is the primary means of virus infection. But if it is an e-mail attachment from BattlestarGalacticaClub.com, DO NOT open it and delete it immediately. We NEVER send out e-mail attachments.
