OK, warriors time to get those digital photos out and show us your best.
Announcing the First Annual Digital Photography Contest at Cylon.org . This isn't merely some crappy contest where you win nothing more than a compliment. This is a crappy contest in which you can win a compliment and $50. (No, this doesn't mean that Lang finally paid up). We request a small contest fee ($5.00 minimum to
Cylon@Cylon.org through PAYPAL) OR a $10.00 donation to the CFF (starting from today's date). Once I have recovered enough contest fees cover the prizes, any other entrance fees will also go to the CFF. The fee is VOLUNTARY. If you can afford it, please donate as I could use the help with the prize money and the CFF can use the help reaching their goal. Even if you can't donate, you're still welcome to join the contest whether you're a member here or not. If the contest is popular enough, I'll rally up more and better prizes.
The CFF has $3000 more to earn. Why not join this contest to help make that happen? Concurrently, the images in the contest will be displayed on Cylon.org in a special gallery. Show off your skill, your good eye, and your creativity. You can submit as many entries as you like.
There will be two categories: "Real Life" and "Faked, False, and Fabricated". Real Life are pictures shown as taken, without alterations, retouching, or other manipulation except lighting, contrast, and color control. FFF images begin with a picture taken with a digital camera that are then altered through retouching, combination with other images, integration with CG, stylzed with artistic effects, or anything else that strikes your fancy. Any images that insult specific personalities or make religious or political statements will be excluded. Any images determined to be in extremely poor taste will also be excluded.
The contest begins today and ends 4 July 2004. There will be a huge celebaration all across the United States for the winner.
The RULES (Real-Life Images)
1. Images should be sent in their full resolution along with a second copy that ranges from 800 x 450 to 800 x 600.
2. Images will be judged according to the following criteria:
a. General Appeal
Judgment from 1-5 determining the overall appeal an image has upon the first five seconds of viewing and after a full minute of viewing. The two ratings are averaged together for a final score.
b. Originality
Judgment from 1-5 determining the uniqueness of the subject and theme of the image
c. Creativity
Judgment from 1-5 determining the uniqueness and unique approach in photographic techniques, camera angles, lighting, etc.
d. Composition
Judgment from 1-5 determining the placement of primary and secondary elements and themes within the image.
e. Reality
Judgment from 1-5 determining the apparent natural quality of the image. For example, a close-up image of a whale leaping out of the water in the ocean would have a high reality rating while a whale jumping over a trainer at Sea World would have a low reality rating.
f. Quality
Judgment from 1-5 determining the overall combination of skill and talent displayed through the final image.

e. Believability
Judgment from 1-5 determining the apparent believability of the final image. This is in no way connected with the believability of the subject. A stunning UFO image would gain a high believability factor while a substandard bald eagle image might have a low believability factor.
