I had planned on saving $10 and going Sunday instead of Saturday. His program at 11:30am on Saturday may be worth the extra $10.00. But he is scheduled to sign auto's at 6pm. I'd really didn't want to be there all day.

Dilbert,

Can you verify that he is going to be there (they are currently filming the second season of BSG) and find out what Hatch's schedule is, including if he is signing auto's before his acting workshop at 4pm? I emailed Marcon three times to verify that he would be there, but never got a response.

Mike, before he left for Vancouver he was fairly sure he'd make it on Sat. but that was the last time I emailed with him--about 2 weeks ago.

Just got off the phone with Richard. He is going to email me tonight to let me know if he is going to make Marcon this weekend. He was going to go up to Canada today, but now he said Thursday or Sunday. When I hear more I will pass it along.

If Richard's not going to be there, I'm out, sorry. Nothing against you all but my spouse was humoring me by letting me go see him and the household funds are a little crampy at the moment.

He was and is the only reason I was going to make the three hour drive. I'd definitely like to hear something conclusive. I emailed Marcon three times, and got a response today. They didn't tell me yes or no. They just said stay tuned to the website. But I have no confidence that they would bother to update the website if he canceled.

So gang, please keep us informed!

He shoots late Friday in Vancouver and won't be able to make it to Marcon. (anytime you go west coast to Eastern time zone you seem to run into it taking a day to travel with flight layovers and such).

Can someone confirm that he was not at this con? If so, I am going to write some scathing emails to marcon about not updating their website. I emailed them and asked if they could confirm if he was going. Their reply was to look for updates on the website. As of Sunday night, they have NOT posted that he was not going to be there. I even sent them an email on Thursday saying that people in the know said that he may not be able to attend.

No excuse for that. But wanted to confirm that he was not there before I rant.

Not only does it seem Richard was not there, he is still listed as a guest of honor on their site even after it has passed.

I cancelled my reservation because he was not attending. I was surprised to hear though that Anne Lockhart did attend, which was not listed as well on their site. If I had known she would be there I may still have gone.

Personally I do not care for the organization of Marcon recently. A year or two ago I asked their organizers if there were film competitions of some sort, as I have some short films I'd like to enter. They said no competitions, but they do have viewings, and asked if I'd like to speak on one of the panels. I thought it would be fun, and asked if they could give me free admission for the day if I was doing one of their panels and I was told it was too late to arrange that. (it was roughly a week or two before the con)

Now I don't want to seem cheap, but to pay admission to the con, then go and speak on one of their panels to help fill out their schedule seems a bit odd to me. Speaking in public is stressful enough, but to have to pay to do so is idiotic.

Oh well, just some thoughts,

Just got a response to my email from last Thursday about Hatch maybe not making it and they should update their website if they find out.

We did not discover until Wed that Richard's schedule would not allow him to attend this year.
You are correct about a more timely update. Most of us are at the hotel setting up on Wed and Thurs and that may have been why the web page was not updated.
Did you make it to Marcon? Richard recommended Anne Lockhart as a last minute replacement and she did a lovely job as a last minute replacment.

Thank you for your interest and recommendation.

Now keep in mind that these are the same people that when I asked if they could confirm if Hatch was still going to be there one week before the con, and they told me to keep checking the website for any updates.

Mike, communication isn't always easy as the Con approaches for the staffers of any Con. The web person may have been without access to upload new info those last few days if they were already at the hotel. (happened to us with Galacticon) I'm sorry you missed Anne. I only knew he'd suggested her, not that they were actually able to schedule it with her at so short notice.
