A Note from the Editor

Welcome to the June & July 2004 Edition of the Colonial Newsletter. There are two original Battlestar Galactica marathons coming up on the Sci-Fi Channel. The first is on July 22nd and the second is on August 9th. The complete schedule is listed below. Also of note, Richard "Apollo" Hatch's 6th hardcover Battlestar Galactica novel was released on June 1st. More information to follow. Congratulations to the Colonial Fan Force for succeeding in raising $10,000 in 3 months. A brand-new goal is to raise $2,000 over the next 60 days. This will allow the Battlestar Galactica revival advertisement for Daily Variety to go full color. Be sure to check out the announcement below and participate and spread the word! And last but certainly not least, we would like to salute Don Bergren (Titon) of ColonialFleets.com, Darrell Lawrence (Warrior) of BattlestarGalactica.com, and Sandy (TwoBrainedCylon) of Cylon.org. 6. Action Alerts: For All Battlestar Galactica Fans

NEW! Major Announcement from the Colonial Fan Force!

"WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY - In the CFF's ongoing negotiations with Daily Variety (which offers its heartiest congratulations on our success), a representative of the magazine has made an offer that is impossible for the management of the CFF to ignore. That offer is as follows: 'Normally a full page 4 Color is over $11,000... but since I know you are on a budget I would be willing to give you a full page, 4 Color rate of $7,000!!!' Since Daily Variety is a 'daily,' we have much more flexibility, and the magazine has given us up to one week prior to the artwork deadline (14 September 2004) to upgrade from a black and white ad to a full color ad. No other fan organization has ever taken out a full color ad in support of their cause. This feat is, however, now within our grasp. Therefore, the Colonial Fan Force Campaign has been relaunched, effective immediately, with the goal of raising an additional $2,000 over the next 60 days. We raised $10,000 in 3 months, I firmly believe we can raise another $2,000 in 2 months. If you missed out on making a contribution the first time, you can now make a difference! Spread the word far and wide! We have already made Battlestar Galactica history, now let's make fan history! We can do this. Click on the Paypal link, and make a contribution today! Or, if you prefer, you can mail your check or money order to one of the addresses listed to the left. The Variety offer is an unexpected gift, but a gift nonetheless... now let's take the Battlestar Galactica revival effort where no revival effort has gone before... full color!" The Colonial Fan Force is Endorsed by: Dirk Benedict, Richard Hatch, Jane Seymour, Stu Phillips, Jack Stauffer, Laurette Spang, Ronald D. Moore, Aaron Douglas, and the Hollywood North Report. Be sure to visit ColonialFanForce.org to contribute and make a difference, and help spread the word!

UPDATED! Sign the Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions

UPDATED! Sign the Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions and show your support for a continuation of the Battlestar Galactica original series! The first petition is the Battlestar Galactica Original Revival Petition for Tom DeSanto, Bryan Singer, Dan Angel, Billy Brown, Glen A. Larson, Dan Pasternack, David Kissinger, Studios USA, Vivendi Universal, Sci-Fi Channel, and the Fox Network and states that We, the fans of the original 1978 sci-fi television series "Battlestar Galactica" are signaling our sincere hopes that original cast members (and their characters) are considered for regular roles in the new "Battlestar Galactica" pilot/ongoing series from Studios USA/Fox Network/Sci-Fi Channel in 2002. This is the Battlestar Galactica Original Revival Petition and currently has 17,400+ signatures. We still support this petition, so be sure to sign your name! The second petition is the Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch Petition and respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer, "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition, then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The third petition is the Battlestar Galactica We The Fans Petition and states that We the fans of the mighty Battlestar Galactica would like to see the combined work of Tom DeSanto and Glen Larson in a major motion picture. As fans we also hope and pray that these two men can bring about a possible continuation with both the characters and actors that made the show a worth while venture. We don't ask for much but hope for a show that will make those who passed proud (Lorne Greene, Lloyd Bridges, Jonathan Harris, and John Colicos). Finally we believe that actions can speak louder then the printed words and hope that both men will take this request to heart. The fourth petition is the Battlestar Galactica: The Continuation Petition and states that The word has been given at Galacticon. The fans want above all else a continuation of the beloved series with Richard Hatch (Apollo), Dirk Benedict (Starbuck), and as many of the other stars of the show who want to participate. I don't believe we are asking for to much as evidenced by the huge DVD sales for the original product. The fifth petition is the Battlestar Galactica Larson/DeSanto Petition for Mr. Glen A. Larson, Mr. Tom DeSanto, Mr. Bob Wright CEO of NBC, Universal Studios and states that We the fans have signed this petition to show support for a Continuation of Battlestar Galactica with the original themes/characters/cast intact, as was announced at Glen A. Larson and Tom DeSanto at Galacticon. We support a united Larson/DeSanto effort. This petition begins December 10th 2003, which is one day after the final installment of the Ronald D. Moore Psuedo-Galactica mini series which aired on the Sci Fi Channel, to show that even after it's airing, there is still support and interest in a faithful Continuation of the original Battlestar Galactica series. Make a difference, be sure to sign the five Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions, and help spread the word!

Audio Clips and Music

Fourth Week of July, 2004

Added the Battlestar Galactica Audio Continuation from T. Shawn Hardy, "The Return of a Hero", to the Audio Clips and Music section. Shawn describes the Audio Continuation as: "Twenty yahrens ago, Captain Apollo introduced the great Celestial Chamber to a few of his closest friends in the last episode that was titled 'The Hand of God'. Now, as the Commander, he is sitting high up in the same chair he once occupied. He reminisces back to that time and all that took place thereafter. Now twenty yahrens after The Hand of God, with one distress signal coming from a portal that has mysteriously opened up in space, Commander Apollo is forced to chose between losing his best friend and losing his only son. The Return of a Hero reunites the original cast along with new characters that are voiced by some of the original Battlestar Galactica fan base. With elements from the original Battlestar Galactica along with The Return of Starbuck and Richard Hatch's Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming, The Return of a Hero is a must for any Battlestar Galactica fan to hear." For the complete Audio Continuation, be sure to visit the following link in the Audio Clips and Music section at BattlestarGalacticaClub.com! Many thanks to T. Shawn Hardy as well as those that participated in the project.

BattlestarGalacticaClub.com

Sixth Week of May, 2004

"We can rebuild him. Better than he was before... Better... Stronger... Faster!" With that statement in mind, the BattlestarGalacticaClub.com and Mobile Battlestar news reporting system has been completely rebuilt. The BattlestarGalacticaClub.com main page now loads 25% faster and displays the top five most recent news articles instead of all news articles for the month. Mobile Battlestar is now fully automated courtesy of the PHPNews 1.2.2 News Management Software. All 820 individual XHTML pages that formed the original Mobile Battlestar have been removed from the server to make way for the new news management system. All of the former news articles, from June 2002 all the way up to May 2004, have been manually inserted into the new PHPNews 1.2.2 database during the rebuilding process, so no information was lost. Enjoy the new version of BattlestarGalacticaClub.com and Mobile Battlestar!

Richard Hatch Interview

July 20, 2004 by Webmaster

New announcement from Commander Taggart at Cylon.org: "I had the pleasure of speaking to Richard Hatch on the phone last night for about an hour. I can personally confirm everything anyone has ever said about the man's warmth, passion for the original series, passion for science fiction, and respect for the fans. The material Richard shared in the recorded interview/discussion will be divided up between FRACK! and the Cylon Alliance. He had a lot of truly thought-provoking things to say about the science fiction genre and how it is treated by the networks, and I am currently working on transcribing his statements for posting here at CA. He also had a lot to say about how he will be working to bring The Great War of Magellan to science fiction fans. I'll have the interview up as soon as I possibly can, but on the 'news' front, Richard did confirm that Ronald D. Moore has asked him to take part in another episode, and he will be returning to Vancouver next month for shooting. He had a lot of nice things to say about the RDM show, and the direction in which the production staff is taking it. He also echoed Jack Stauffer's sentiments that Moore and Company should not be held accountable for the decision to reimagine, stating that it was the suits who made that call, and Moore, Eick, etc., were only carrying out the studio/network directives. He also expressed his deep desire for closure of the original story, through either an original series movie or some other reunion to tie up the threads left dangling by the premature cancellation of the original series." Be sure to check out the brand-new Richard Hatch interview from Commander Taggart at Cylon.org.

Cylon.org: A Tribute to Our Founder

July 20, 2004 by Webmaster

The new owners of Cylon.org have posted a tribute to founder Two-Brained Cylon: "The Triumvirate wishes to pay homage to the Founder of The Cylon Alliance, the Two-Brained Cylon. A man of uncommon talent and vision, TBC initially created CA as a place for fans of Battlestar Galactica to gather and express themselves without fear of censure; his only directive was that you tell the truth and be prepared to back it up. This was - and is - no place for […]. But, as with all great things, The Cylon Alliance quickly grew to become much more than a simple bulletin board for fans of a 25 year old TV show. CA now hosts tributes and commentary for classic science fiction of all kinds, and our discussions encompass far more than just Battlestar Galactica. All thanks to the Two-Brained Cylon. The baton has been passed, the legacy now entrusted to us, The Triumvirate. We have large shoes to fill. As he closes this chapter of his life and moves to the next, we express our gratitude to him on behalf of all members and guests of the Cylon Alliance. We salute his talent, his vision, his love of science fiction, all of which came together to drive and inspire him to create this place. We hope to live up to his example; we are certainly better people for knowing him. Two-Brained Cylon will remain forever a Friend of the Alliance of the highest rank. Thank you, Sandy. By Our Command The Triumvirate". Be sure to check out the new tribute page at the following link at Cylon.org.

Aaron Douglas has lots to say about the Original Series

July 20, 2004 by Webmaster

Aaron Douglas, Chief Tyrol in the new mini-series and long-time fan of the original series, has just launched his brand-new web site. Aaron Douglas writes: "This is my first day writing in my journal and on my website. I would like to thank Lisa for assisting me with this site. She is wonderful and much more computer savvy than I. At present I spend some time at Colonial Fleets and Media Blvd. There people ask me questions and I would like that to take place here as well. I would also like you people to tell me what you would like to see here on this site. I am a real person, I would like to think, and I really do enjoy talking to people and hearing about what they do and why they enjoy the shows they do. So hopefully every week or more I will post a journal entry and keep you up to date with what is going on with me. Hopefully I can get updates of photos regularly as well. I look forward to speaking with you all over the coming years. As a heads up it looks like I will be at Comicon in San Diego as a part of the Battlestar Galactica group for Sci-Fi. If you are looking for me in roles other than Battlestar Galactica I am in The Dead Zone on July 4th, Catwoman, Riddick, Saved, and I,Robot. Some are smallish parts but there are no small parts right? [...]" The web site of Aaron Douglas features: Biography, Aaron's Journal, Filmography, Home, News, Images, and Forum. For the latest from Aaron Douglas be sure to visit his web site at AaronDouglas.biz. Many thanks to Ioraptor for posting the announcement at the Cylon Alliance Forums.

Moore, Eick, Rhymer, and Firefly

July 20, 2004 by Webmaster

Cylon Alliance owner Commander Taggart posted a new report at Cylon.org: "I finally got around to watching the special features of the Firefly DVD set yesterday. I was kind of stunned when I watched the 'Making of Firefly' featurette. I mean, some of the things Joss and other members of the production scene were saying struck me as almost verbatim from notes I had read in the leaked RDM script. They talked about cameras appearing to be attached to the side of an aircraft (a specific mention in Moore's script the first time we see the 'Galactica'), cgi shots being out-of-frame, the uses of zooms, etc. These were all things that Moore touted as being central to his 'reinvention of the genre of science fiction television.' Joss also talked at length about how he wanted the Firefly story to be about regular people in space, doing regular things like 'looking for a job.' Again... a theme that Moore harped on in justifying his reimagination. What struck me was the innocence with which Joss and the others talked about these truly groundbreaking ideas. You didn't see Joss posturing or going on and on about how he reinvented SciFi. You just saw a gifted artist talking about how he wanted to try these different things because he thought they would work in his show, and he wanted to give his show a distinctive style. Joss quietly (and modestly) reinvented the genre of television science fiction, and will now most likely reinvent the genre of science fiction film. Moore, Eick, and Rhymer, in the meantime, tried to mine Firefly for any ideas they could steal, then ran around Hollywood (or, I guess, Vancouver) whooping it up about being the geniuses who were going to reinvent SciFi. Pretty pathetic. Especially since the shaky cams, polyester suits, zooms, and dark lighting didn't come CLOSE to working as well in the Abomination as they did in Firefly. That's the difference between being a true genius and being a hack who steals the ideas of a true genius. Like trying to set the art world on its ear by painting a picture of a woman with an almost mystical smile. I'm really starting to think that Moore was blown away by Firefly, and figured that since it was cancelled so quickly by FOX, people's memories would fade. But with the success of the DVD's, and Serenity being shot, he's been caught with his hand in Joss Whedon's cookie jar. So... let's review: he's poorly imitated Joss Whedon's ground-breaking stylistic approach to televised science fiction, and he's publicly stated that he intends to raid Battlestar Galactica for story ideas. Bonnie must be very proud." Many thanks to Commander Taggart for the very well-written report.

Larson/Moyer Battlestar Galactica Movie Pictures

July 20, 2004 by Webmaster

Cylon Alliance owner Bishop37 discovered a site with pictures from the proposed Glen A. Larson/Todd Moyer movie production in 1999. The are a total of eight pictures from CGI artist Travis Price. The artist writes: "Shortly after the successful return of the STAR WARS trilogy, producer Todd Moyer (recent credits BARBED WIRE with Pamela Lee) decided that it was also time to bring back BATTLESTAR GALACTICA…this time as a full length feature. While lacking the financial and technological muscle of Industrial Light and Magic, what No Prisoners, Todd's company, did not lack was passion and fervor. Working tirelessly for four weeks straight, we crossed our fingers and hoped that the one and only film-out we made of the trailer would turn out right. With barely any time to ponder this, Todd was out the door - with film can in hand - ready to hustle the movie concept at the Cannes Film Festival. These are the textures that I did for the noble endeavor. While I haven't heard much of the project since then, I am still hoping that they will call me when they are ready to make the movie." These are some never before seen pictures, so be sure to check them out at DigitalCraftsman.com. Many thanks to Bishop37 for posting the report at the Cylon Alliance Forums.

Winds of Change...

July 20, 2004 by Webmaster

New report from former ColonialFleets.com owner Titon: "Greetings my fellow warriors. Over the last 2 months my life has become extremely busy. I've spent a majority of the time concentrating on my company which in turn has returned good dividends. Business has increased nearly 30% from the same time last year. What does all this mean? Well unfortunately my time will be needed elsewhere. There comes a time in everyone's life that tough decisions must be made. And this time is no different for me. As of yesterday I've transferred ownership of Fleets to our resident daggit (muffit). From June 1st on she will be the sole owner and operator of Colonial Fleets. Along with the great supporting cast of admins and mods here you should not feel one little bit of turbulence. Wish them luck in their new endeavors. Darrell (Warrior) and I had a dream a few years back. Let's create a website that all Galactica fans can come together to discuss our favorite show in peace. Over that time we've gone through many significant changes and many many battles. These are times I will never forget. Some good, some bad but hey that's life. We all just need to remember this is a TV show after all. What we've built here is family. And I will miss you all. Fleets will go on like a clock. The basic structure will not change and I believe Fleets best times are still ahead. Thank you all for your years of friendship and support over many difficult times. It has filled my life with great pleasure. I've spent considerable time trying to make the powers that be stand up and listen. We were close but again it was snatched away from us on 9/11. But again I believe in my heart that it will eventually sink in, when is anybodies guess. Unfortunately I don't have the time nor the energy to dedicate to it any longer. So it is time for me to say goodbye. Help Muffit and the others make a smooth transition and also help them keep the peace. Don". Farewell to Titon and best of wishes to the new owner Muffit and the administrators of Colonial Fleets. 10. Special Internet Security Alerts

The Bagle worm is in full swing and affecting a lot of users on the Internet. Some users may have received e-mail that is purportedly from BattlestarGalacticaClub.com. Falsified e-mail addresses may include:

- administration@BattlestarGalacticaClub.com
- noreply@BattlestarGalacticaClub.com
- staff@BattlestarGalacticaClub.com
- support@BattlestarGalacticaClub.com

The false e-mail may state:

Dear user of "BattlestarGalacticaClub.com" mailing system,

- Your e-mail account will be disabled because of improper use in the next three days
- Your e-mail account has been temporarily disabled because of unauthorized access
- Our antivirus software has detected a large amount of viruses outgoing from your e-mail account
- Some of our clients complained about the spam (negative e-mail content) outgoing from your e-mail account

And infected e-mail attachments may include:

- .exe
- .pif
- .scr

We recommend that you utilize the latest version of McAfee VirusScan to protect yourself from viruses, worms, adware, and spyware. There is also Norton AntiVirus, however it has built-in "product activation" copyright enforcement code similar to Windows XP. Reputable virus protection software should be your first line of defense against web and e-mail viruses.

It is very important to remember the following:

BattlestarGalacticaClub.com DOES NOT send out e-mail attachments. PERIOD. If you receive an e-mail that is purportedly from BattlestarGalacticaClub.com and it contains an e-mail attachment, DELETE IT! Any e-mail attachment from any user should be considered suspect, as this is the primary means of virus infection. But if it is an e-mail attachment from BattlestarGalacticaClub.com, DO NOT open it and delete it immediately. We NEVER send out e-mail attachments.
