Combat Raider
This is my idea for a revised Cylon Raider. I got thinking about this after seeing a sketch I found on the web. I have modelled a standard raider, and modified the basic model to get to this. This is maybe how a Mk2 Raider could have looked in a second series, modified from the original prop. I will be texturing the regular raider over the weekend hopefully. This is my first try at a schematic style presentation. Thanks for looking, C+Cs' welcome.

It fits into the original series's universe, but it would look out of place in the new series.

Very nice. They should've gone with something more like this for the new series, IMHO. That would have given it a new old feeling. Any chance of a special effects render coming any time soon?

Thanks guys! I have got a bit side tracked modelling another "maybe" Galactica ship, this time a large long range fighter that would work in concert with Vipers. Provisionally I going with the name Python. Its four engined with a rear gunner and missile bays for long range engagements. I'll post up some pics later on.

I like it
It's like a inbetween version like in the opening of the new series he was looking at the old schematics of the Cylons, this Raider is what could have been one of the upgraded versions from the last

This is an awesome design. While I really like the idea and design of the raiders from TOS, I think something like this would have been a better idea. Its just so slick - very nicely done!

Re: Combat Raider
The design for the Raider was also featured in the "Athena's Quest" storyline published in the BSG special edition issue by Realm Press.
I could provide a few scans of it, if you like...

Re: Combat Raider
Good work, the sweep of the wings gives it quite a menacing look, more so than the original raider. it also conveys a sense of being an evoluionary step between the original and new series raiders.

Re: Combat Raider
Killer Design! <SHARP SALUTE SIR>!
Got a great look to it - like a faster design maybe for an Interceptor version of the standard RAIDER. In fact I am in the process of building a model kit of it converted from the REVELL Raider kit.
Have also seen this design on a Wargamming SSD - it was called the MK.X PROWLER. A Basestar would carry a couple flights of these to complement the RAIDERS carried in the Airwing.
If you don't mind, I would like to get a set of 2D plans for the Combat Raider showing a 5 View if you have them handy.
Again, great work on the design and artwork.
<S>!

Re: Combat Raider
I agree with Tinman's comment, this definately has a "Interceptor" feel to it. I reall really like the look of this.
