5. Action Alerts: For All Battlestar Galactica Fans

Post Office Mail the Universal Entertainment Group

PRESS RELEASE: "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (4-hour miniseries) - SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking and beloved series in which 'a rag, tag fugitive fleet' of the last remnants of mankind searches for its true home. Fleeing the aliens responsible for the slaughter of their homeworld, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a whole new set of challenges. This intriguing twist on a classic will be written by writer Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission Impossible II) with Breck Eisner (Steven Spielberg's Taken; The Invisible Man) attached to direct. Distributed by USA Cable Entertainment, the Project will be executive produced by David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Spy Game)." The new miniseries is a re-imagining, and not a continuation, of the original Battlestar Galactica series, and may not include the original cast, characters, and themes! Send a post office mail to the Universal Entertainment Group! For more information, visit our Battlestar Galactica revival information page.

Fans are encouraged to visit the new site, and boycott any sponsor of the "Battlestar Galactica" re-imagining mini-series scheduled for the Sci-Fi Channel in 2003. The boycott site includes a link to the new Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Advertiser Boycott Petition (which we've also included in the list of primary petitions, below.) Also, the site features an extensive list of current advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel, as well as a form letter that you can utilize. Help support the boycott of sponsors, and spread the word!

NEW! Sign the brand-new Larson/DeSanto 2004 Petition!

A brand-new petition is available for you to sign and show your support for Glen A. Larson and Tom DeSanto to work together on a possible new Battlestar Galactica motion picture. The petition states: "We the fans of the mighty Battlestar Galactica would like to see the combined work of Tom DeSanto and Glen Larson in a major motion picture. As fans we also hope and pray that these two men can bring about a possible continuation with both the characters and actors that made the show a worth while venture. We don't ask for much but hope for a show that will make those who passed proud (Lorne Greene, Lloyd Bridges, Jonathan Harris, and John Colicos). Finally we believe that actions can speak louder then the printed words and hope that both men will take this request to heart." Be sure to sign the petition and spread the word!

Sign the five primary Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The five primary Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The five petitions listed here are endorsed by BattlestarGalactica.com. Petition #1 is the Battlestar Galactica Revival Petition to signal the sincere hopes that original cast members (and their characters) be considered for regular roles in the new Battlestar Galactica pilot/ongoing series. Petition #2 is the Battlestar Galactica DVD Petition to urge Vivendi Universal and Studios USA to seriously consider the release of ALL episodes of the original Battlestar Galactica television series on DVD/VHS formats. Petition #3 is the Battlestar Galactica New Series Petition aimed directly at the current Sci-Fi Channel happenings and utilizes stronger wording. Petition #4 is the Battlestar Galactica Fight for Survival Petition to support the new Battlestar Galactica production only if it is done right with direct linage of the original series and includes core members of the original cast in their original roles and includes the original Galactica ship. Petition #5 is the Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Advertiser Boycott Petition and states that the thousands of fans are left little choice but to fight back in the only way left to us. We will vote with our wallets and pocketbooks. To those advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel, we caution you: Beware! We will boycott your advertised products for a period of two years if you sponsor the Battlestar Galactica re-imagining on the Sci-Fi Channel. Sign the four additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The four additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are also available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch Petition respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer, "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition, then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Management Petition requests a change in management at the Sci-Fi Channel. The petition urges the Sci-Fi Channel to focus more on sci-fi programming, including Battlestar Galactica, instead of broadcasting non sci-fi television shows, or axing sci-fi shows that have done well, such as Lexx and Farscape. The Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition is a humorous petition, but for a serious matter: Ron Moore's new Battlestar Galactica mini-series script for the Sci-Fi Channel calls for Starbuck to become a female! Starbuck, one of the original series' most popular characters, becomes Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the new mini-series, and "Starbuck" is merely her radio call sign. If you want Starbuck to remain a male and make your voice heard, be sure to sign the Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition. Finally, the Battlestar Galactica No Re-Imagining Petition is a succinct petition that supports Richard Hatch's "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" continuation concept over the Ron Moore re-imagining felgercarb. You can make a difference, so be sure to sign the four additional petitions, after you sign the five primary petitions!

Battlestar Galactica 25th Anniversary Cast & Crew Reunion Screening

An exclusive Battlestar Galactica 25th Anniversary Cast & Crew Reunion Screening will take place on August 23rd at 5:00 PM at Cinematheque's 4th Annual Festival. The event is described as: "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (THE MOVIE), 1978, Universal, 125 min. Dirs. Richard A. Colla and Alan J. Levi. A resourceful team of space warriors, led by Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and Maren Jensen, take on the evil Cylons (dig that moving red eyeball!) in this humorous and action-packed television series, screening here in the 1978 theatrical feature version. Often compared to a small screen STAR WARS (visual effects guru John Dykstra created superb F/X for both), 'Battlestar Galactica' achieved its own unique charm through a winning cast and a refreshing, tongue-in-cheek approach to the sci-fi genre. [This screening is co-presented with Cinefantastique Magazine. Event sponsored by Universal Home Video, who will be releasing a deluxe 'Battlestar Galactica' DVD boxed set in October.] Discussion following with series creator Glen A. Larson, actor Richard Hatch, composer Stu Phillips and visual effects expert Richard Edlund (schedules permitting)." For more information, be sure to visit the following link at EgyptianTheatre.com!

Variety Reporter Wants Your Input

New report posted at Cylon.org: "Scott Hettrick, a reporter from Variety Magazine contacted me. He does not understand why fans are in an uproar about the Sci Fi series. Please take a minute to e-mail him to explain why fans are upset so Hollywood will know the dilemma. His e-mail is at the following link. (Reed Business Pubs owns Variety Magazine.) Here is the original text of the e-mail: 'Yes, I was there and we reported on Olmos' comments as well. I haven't gone to these web sites but maybe you could briefly explain to me why you want me to know that so many people are in objection to this. How will this affect the original series for die-hard fans of the original? Can't they just not watch it? Or watch it, and if they don't like it, don't watch it again? Aren't tons of movies and TV series remade poorly for TV or even movie theaters? I just don't get why there is such an outcry about this that you want us to know about.'" Sci-Fi Channel President Bonnie Hammer States "Kill Me Now."

Ohio.com reported on Edward James Olmos' public statement in front of Bonnie Hammer at a press tour. Bonnie Hammer's public response to the fact that most fans loathe the upcoming Battlestar Galactica mini-series? "Kill Me Now." Ohio.com reports: "It finally took Olmos to cut through the diplomatic replies and go to the core issue. 'A person who has a really strict belief in the original, I would advise not to watch this program,' he said. 'It'll hurt them.... Some of the characters names are the same, but the intent and the way we are building the (show's) reality is not the reality that was built in the original. So I tell (fans)... buy yourself the new DVDs they are putting out of the old episodes, and whenever we come on just put that one in.' Sci Fi President Bonnie Hammer stood by as Olmos delivered his warning against a show she was trying to publicize. 'Kill me now,' she said."

Detailed Report on Bonnie Hammer's Response to Fans

NJ.com posted a detailed report on Bonnie Hammer's recent response to the Battlestar Galactica fan reaction: "At a Sci-Fi channel session on Tuesday promoting a miniseries remake of the short-lived ABC program 'Battlestar Galactica,' star Edward James Olmos , who plays starship commander Adama, went off script in a big way. Sci-Fi president Bonnie Hammer was mediating the discussion when a reporter asked if the miniseries, scheduled to premiere in December, was just a glorified pilot for a regular weekly show. Olmos admitted what everyone in the room already knew that the original show was terrible, that the miniseries remake was a backdoor pilot for a series, and that he and the other actors had already signed contracts saying they'd return for more shooting. Then he warned fans of the original not to watch the new version because creator Ron Moore's radically realistic scripts would break their hearts. 'A person who really has a strict belief in the original, I would not advise him to watch this program,' Olmos said. 'Buy yourself the new DVDs that they are putting out of the original episodes, and whenever we come on, just put that one in. Don't watch (our version) because it will hurt.' Olmos said fans of the original, which ran from September 1978 to August 1980, are 'very angry' about the new version. 'And I know that Sci-Fi Channel wants to say that everybody's going to enjoy it. They're not.' I was 12 rows away, but I swear I could see all the blood drain from Hammer's face. 'Kill me now,' she said. 'They're not going to like the program,' Olmos repeated. He then complained about 'tens of thousands of people who write to each other for 25 years over a program that is not on the air and is not even being rerun.'"

TVGuide.com Reports Bonnie Hammer "Visibly Squirmed" at Fan Reaction

New report from TVGuide.com: "Sci Fi Channel president Bonnie Hammer visibly squirmed at Tuesday's TCA presentation for Battlestar Galactica, where star Edward James Olmos revealed that devotees of the original '70s TV show are sending him hate mail. Apparently, they've heard Sci Fi's four-hour fall miniseries is a very loosely based remake, and they ain't happy. 'If you're a die-hard fan of the original Battlestar Galactica, please don't watch,' Olmos declared. 'Sci Fi Channel wants you to think everyone will like this. They won't! So please, don't watch! Buy the DVD of the original series, and when we're on, pop it in instead! I don't want you writing me any more letters!'"
