Food!
One of my favorite "off-topic" topics!
I like to cook, and I like to make my own recipes. I'm a purist- I buy fresh veg, make my own sauces, etc.
Let's share our own favorite recipes!

Well, on another board I post to, I post debunked urban myths, and one I posted involved the Neiman Marcus cookie myth, that one traces back to a story involving a Red Velvet cake, and one of the posters there wanted a recipie for a Red Velvet cake. I shared it with her, and since there is this thread sitting here just waiting for a reply, I've decided to share it with you too. (And remember, it should be illegal to use anything but cream cheese frosting on it.)
Cake:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. butter flavoring
1 1/2 oz. bottle of red color
3 Tbl. (level) cocoa
2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbl. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, and flavors. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring. Add to first mixture. Alternately add flour and buttermilk. Mix baking soda and vinegar in small bowl; add to batter. Blend. Bake in three 9" or 10" pans for 20 - 25 minutes at 350°. Let cool completely. Cover with frosting.
Frosting:
2 packages cream cheese (3 oz. each), softened
6 Tbl. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sifted powered sugar
Blend all ingredients until smooth

Hmmm.... seeing that I don't cook much anymore.....I'd have to say Healthy Choice
Take pkg out of freezer
open top
put in microwave
heat for four minutes
eat.......
however I do have a great drink recipe....
1 gal of real vanilla ice cream
1 pint fresh strawberries sliced, mangoes are good too.
2 two liters of gingerale
1 liter of Vodka
put all ingredients in a large bowl, let sit until ice cream starts to melt and serve.....
last time I served it I sold $900.00 worth of tupperware in one hour .....

You can drink it without the liquor. It is a great smoothie....You can add your favorite fruit......
Also you can add fruit to coolwhip and freeze it. It makes a great easy icecream....

I bought a ice pop mold, and make my own freezie pops, from Kool-Aid, yogurt, and pudding.
Also, on another board, this was posted:
EASY computer food
1 can crescent roll dough
1/2 package Lit'l Smokies
Preheat oven to 375.
Unwrap dough and cut each triangle in half or thirds (depending on how many you want to make). Wrap Lit'l Smokies and place on cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil.
Bake for exactly 11 minutes.
And at the end of the post, she wonders how they'd taste with a tiny slice of Velveeta tucked in.

I love threads like this. I gain 10 pounds!
Here's one for fun- I ahve a cookbook of recipes from prominent ladies in the 1700's. Some of them are a riot.
Like Pound Cake (or wysiwyg cake)
1 pound butter
1 pound flour
1 pound sugar
16 eggs
Cream the butter, rub it gradually into the sifted and dried flour. Beat the yolks of 10 eggs very light, then add the powdered sugar, beat again, add a wineglass of brandy or one of good whiskey flavored with nutmeg, or the grated rind of a lemon, mix all together. Stir in the whites of 12 eggs beaten to a stiff froth just before baking. It will take two hours to bake.
Some are interesting, like:
Ginger Beer
1 1/2 oz best ground Jamaican ginger
1 1/2 oz cream of tartar
1 lb brown sugar
2 sliced lemons
4 quarts boiling water
1/2 pint yeast
Boil all ingredients. Let ferment 24 hours. Store for 2 weeks. (*hic!*)

Well, that is where pound cake got it's name, a pound of butter, a pound of sugar, a pound of flour and a pound of eggs. Fortunately the recipe has been lightened up for the modern tastes.

My big thing was to take the leftovers from thanksgiving, the turkey, vegetables and so on- and make a big pot of soup. This is especially good if you add something like apples.
