How can "Paradis" (or spelled Paradise) be your favorite when it isn't out till July 2003? It's like Amazon saying the 5th Harry Potter is the best simply because of pre orders made by customers! In sales terms it's sold out already. but does that mean you've read the content already too, to say it's the best?

Please explain did you get hold of an early copy!

The words of a dessert junkie.... my favorite dessert is always the next one.

And it is 'Paradis', that's the name of the planet.

With all due respect that doesn't answer the question! How did you come to like a novel which isn't out yet?

The metaphor is lost because A) Food after the main meal ain't always great and B) Metaphor or no metaphor, that wouldn't ring true to a book you haven't read yet!

I'm talking about the thrill of anticipation. Isn't it more fun imagining how good a sundae is going to be?

Actually, I did have the priveledge of helping edit the novel outline, so I do know the story, no, don't ask, I'm not telling- I can just say it's going to be great!

My favorite Richard Hatch "Battlestar Galactica" novel is:

"Armageddon"

...which I read in Spring 1998.

This is the book which re-ignited my interest in this wonderful show; showed the incredible, untapped (now tapped) potential; reconnected me to childhood heroes; explored new thoughts within the BG universe; and had me waiting impatiently for the next novel, "Warhawk." (And as a Commander Cain fan... and future owner of BattlestarPegasus.com, you understand why I was pining to see what Richard had done with the Living Legend himself.)

I credit "Armageddon" for fueling my entrance into the BG web site work/revival efforts. And I directly credit Richard (before ever meeting/befriending him) for showing what true potentials awaited, should this property see the light of day again.

In some ways, I understand the pro-reimagining fans and their zeal and passion. If they felt similarly, then I understand why they're gung-ho about the Eick/Moore production.

"Paradise" is going to be an excellent book.

Brad Linaweaver will prove to be the best addition as a co-author since Christopher Golden. And may the next co-author do as well, too.

BattlestarGalactica.com and BattlestarPegasus.com will be showcasing an interview with Richard's co-author either late May or June, to preceed the release of "Paradise." As with the web site's open content model, the interview can be reprinted elsewhere, provided it is reprinted in full/unaltered with credit given back to the source.

I agree with you Michael, Armageddon was my fav. Maybe it was because it was my first taste of BSG in 20 some odd years. Or maybe it was because it was so wonderfully like a screenplay. Richard brought the characters alive again for me; I could /hear/ the real voices as I read them. And it was /so/ exciting!

Can't wait for the new one to come out

But Mike the 5th book ain't out yet. It got to be a book that is already out i.e. the first 4!

Like you say "Armageddon" got my vote. Scarlet Vipers, More Nomen, Q.S.E. Generators, tougher Cylons what more could you ask for?

Default OK, Michael....

I picked Armageddon, too, but for a very different, personal reason:

It's the only one I've actually read.

I found it in a new/used bookstore a couple of years ago, read it, enjoyed it (mostly), then figured out there were more coming. The bookstore never has had them, and I haven't been able to find them locally (I'm probably looking at the wrong stores).

Since I've come here (and Cylon Alliance), though, I've been re-energized about finding them. I'm going to snag one of my wife's credit cards, I think, and start looking again at places like Amazon.com and elsewhere.

Well, then: Head over to RichardHatch.com (http://www.richardhatch.com/store/index.html ) and buy a copy! Or get a copy and bring it to Galacticon 2003 (http://www.galacticonevents.com/ ) and get it signed in-person!

Couldn't resist,

Is Armageddon still the only one in trade paperback? Whats going on. Can never find Warhawk or the others in paperback either, weird no. The others should be in TPB by now!

I agree. The publisher has talked on and off about releasing the books in paperback format. I think the almighty dollar/pound/euro/etc. is what's stopping that decision: More money is made from hardcover sales than paperback sales.

Richard advised fans last year to write to iBooks to encourage paperback releases. I don't know when - or if - they'll have a change of heart. I wish they were in paperback form. They'd be more accessible to fandom. And with the new show coming, I actually feel many people will seek them out, longing for the original characters/situations/etc., not a retelling/reimagining of the show.

So we have to claim our favorite:
Resurrection.

It was the first one I read and has my favorite battle. It began the undoing of all that was G-80 for me (remember the weekly pain of Where's Starbuck & Apollo? if they left Starbuck stranded, then something worse happened to Apollo, was what I had thought. That was a bad place to go.) Of course there is a point in the book which unfortunately I tried to go to bed & should have just finished the thing (again, mess with a primary character and I get upset), but it ended OK with the most intense battle scene. It's still my favorite battle.

Default How True!

It is *Extremely hard* to find a Richard Hatch BG book, let alone buy one now!

Depending on the book though, paperback ones are more likeable buys than hardback ones. Cost is cheaper and better although like you say hardback ones cost more. sometime you may want the hardback one instead but BG's Hatch novel series doesn't give you a choice except for the first one.

Considering BG isn't up there with Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, Farscape, X-Files or Buffy & Angel in terms of merchandise, hard to find hardback BG books ain't on people's list outside the fanbase! so yeah it's a poor business decision indeed.

So what will happen when BG fans and casual sci-fi fans want to read more BG books then?

Sadly.... I'm always too busy to read fiction. I want to, but studying to keep myself competitive in the marketplace always come first.

KJ: Amazon.com doesn't ship to the UK? All but one of mine were bought there and most U.S. bookshops can special order anything in print, would think that the same would be true in the UK.

Amazon? No, i prefer doing the work myself. Searching ain't gonna kill ya, there is no challenge in ordering off almighty Amazon? Amazon don't have all of them and quite frankly it ain't my way of shopping.

Go to book stores where you can at least meet the girls and foreign chicks and sit and read books together not all just done digitally by ordering online? There a world out there and searching and interacting is a large part of it.

Amazon doesn't solve all my reading needs i prefer book shops.

Do it the old fashon way people!
