Star Trek STTNG and STDS9 DVD discounted.

I just thought I'd pass this on FYI. The first three seasons of The Next Generation and DS9 have been discounted to around $50 per set. This is on Amazon.com. I don't know if this is just Amazon or a reduction on the sets everywhere. I always thought Paramount, by charging over $100 per set, was really rooking the fans. At these prices though, I might finally pick them up.

Not having been a fan (in terms of never watching them), there was no way I was ever going to do a blind buy for those sets at $100 plus per season. Thank goodness Paramount is bringing that extortion to an end (likewise Fox, which is cutting the prices on the initial seasons of X-Files in half).

Personally, I would go with the Next Generation sets. DS9 has always left me cold. The only show I ever bought blind was 1989's War of the Worlds: The Series. I got it because I was curious ( a dangerous quality when it comes to money) and it was only $15 at Best Buy. ( It was on sale.)

DS9 was probably my favorite of all the Star Trek series...I am glad to see that Paramount is slashing the prices on the first few seasons of TNG and DS9.

That's pretty cool, with the exchange rate that works out to be about £25

Thumbs up

I guess Paramount is starting todiscount Star Trek dvd across the board. Today, in the Sunday flyer for Best Buy, they listed the first three seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise on sale for $44.99. What was interesting was that it said that they are regularly priced at $56.99. I was in Best Buy last week and the sets were still going for over $100.00. While I am not the biggest Enterprise fan, I am more inclined to buy them now that they are reduced. They are priced more in line with other TV season sets. Now if only Babylon 5 will follow suit!

I have always avoided the Trek spinoffs after being turned off by the first episode of TNG, and the only other episode I've ever seen is the Tribbles episode of DS9. If there is one spinoff show I might be inclined to give a try as a blind buy it would probably be Voyager only because it would present a different kind of premise overall.

Star Trek

My friend, take it from an old school trekker, if you are going to blind buy any Trek spin off, stick to the Next Generation of the later seasons of DS9. Voyager is the gino of the Trek "franchise." If you love the original Trek, give voyager a wide bearth. It can be enjoyed only as camp. This is off topic for this thread. I am putting in my two cents because friends do not let friends buy voyager.

Actually I "like" Trek more than love. Personally I got turned off by the franchise after not enjoying the third and fourth movies and basically froze my perceptions of the Trek universe with Wrath Of Khan, so as far as I'm concerned Spock is still dead.

I went down to Best Buy today. It seems that the great deal they listed in the Sunday flyer was a misprint. They had a big notice on the store shelf that they were really discounted to $99.00 from $109.00. Thats some misprint.

That's rank incompetence on their part. And frankly, they should be in a lot of legal hot water for something like that.

Just $10, that's hardly a discount

Just in case anyone is interested, there is a great deal at Sam's Club on The Next Generation and Deep Space 9. The first three seasons of each show are available for $43.24! My wife got me the first three seasons as a surprise gift. I LOVE THAT WOMAN!!!!

Wal-Mart has ST:TNG for around $50.00. Online retailers still have them for a huge price.
