Thanks, the Revell model I made is 11 inches; I believe the Joyride toy is 7.
Joyride made cool stuff- a better paint job & correctly angled guns would have gone a long way towards making it epic!
And that's my goal. Epic Vipers!!!

I cant think of any constructive criticisms, your on the ball with those that's for sure.
maybe back lit engines perhaps if you wanted to go for super detailing.
actually now i have thought of something, the pipes in between the top and bottom
engines and on the back panel, what about using bass guitar strings, remove the core
of the string and it can bend and twist anyway you want it to.

Great minds think alike! I did it with styrene poles:
I also took off the ridge behind the intakes that isn't supposed to be there.
The back panel is the same, though, I can't see room for too much improvement there... or am i missing something?

your not missing anything, I was too brief. on the back panel if your game and gentle,
grind off the molded pipes and add your own to it. If i had somewhere to build my kits
I'd be grinding bits off and drilling little holes with a dremel (best tool ever ) and adding detail pretty much the way you have.
cheers.

the styrene bits you used look so much better than what is stock on that kit.

Thanks!
My only concern is that I might have made the hull colour a bit dark, and not 'dirtied' the model up enough. But I have a few more kits to make. I can vary my looks.

I have another for sale at Model Miniatures and Magic for $300 right now.
I was surprised the one on Ebay sold so quick.
I plan on making resin Vipers & possibly Raiders in a 5" size & selling them too. They'd be 100% accurate & totally less expensive than any model I construct to sell. Well under $100.
Models are SO time-consuming.

Re: New finished Viper- one for sale- need Colonial critisism!
Hey there Apolloisall... Have to say you've inspired me a bit to get back into some physical model building. Used to to a ton of it, but swayed off into cgi land. So a few weeks back was cleaning out the garage and found a box of my old models and toys that I've used for parts, or always wanted to get around to doing something with.
For my first step back I'm doing something a little different. Taking my old Buck Rogers Starfighter toy and doctoring it up into a more detailed model. It won't be studio model accurate as it is based on the toy, and I'm doing it more for the "feel" of the model rather than accuracy... so it will have some creative license. Plus I lost the laser tips many years (dacades) ago. So I improvised. Have the base coat on and working in the details. Can't wait to get to the weathering. Will post pics when done (and if it actually turns out okay). If it does look decent will try the same thing with the Draconian Marauder.
One really nice plus is my son (11 years old) seems to be taking an interest in models as well. Never showed much interest before, but now seeing how its done he's starting to have some fun kit-bashing things together.
All the best,
Dave

My Son (12 years old) has built a few models too!
This is his Basestar, complete with his explanations:
BTW, He loved your Adama Journals almost as much as I did, and he said your version of Greetings From Earth W/Space 1999 was WAY better than the original version!
I really can't thank you enough for making those!
PLEASE post pics of your models when done!

Here's some work in progress on the Starfighter toy conversion. Its fun getting back into the physical models. Have a snowspeeder that may get the same work over. Your work has inspired me!

Re: New finished Viper- one for sale- need Colonial critisism!
Still need to get more panel lines on the engines/tubes. Also decals. And the bottom is not detailed or weathered at this point. Love the weathering process of modeling. Brings out the character of the ship. After this one I think the Draconian Marauder is in line. While the 70s Buck Rogers is campy, I still love their model designs.

Re: New finished Viper- one for sale- need Colonial critisism!
That is true. Have the 8x10 publicity photo around here somewhere. I may have to watch the pilot movie of Buck, which was not actually as campy as the rest of the series, and I wish they stuck closer to that. Had a decent mix of fun, adventure, and believability.

Oh yeah, I liked the pilot a lot. I've thought about getting the series on DVD just for that alone. Well... and Princess Ardala,
Maybe used....

Ardala did have some good... assets. I think I enjoyed Farscape because it felt a bit more like what Buck Rogers should have been. A good mix of fun and adventure, but serious and dramatic when need be.

Since we're talkin' other series here, my two recent faves were Firefly & Dark Angel- you seen 'em? Oh, and I *LOVED* Serenity!!!

Re: New finished Viper- one for sale- need Colonial critisism!
Firefly and Serenity, definitely yes!!! Never tried watching Dark Angel. Didn't they do some second season revamp with that show if I remember correctly?
Actually I didn't watch Firefly when it first aired, but after so many friends talked about it I just bought the DVD set without ever seeing it and dove in. Can't remember the exact line, but I wasn't sure about the series until one line from Mel made me laugh out loud, and then the characters had me. Excellent show. And Serenity Rocked! Though Wash... why?! But it makes it so much more real and emotional.

The first season was nearly as good as Firefly IMO (in a different way, of course). The second season lost me as a viewer halfway through, but after I bought it all on DVD I found the second season wasn't so bad if you just disregard the lame episodes (roughly half of them ).

I came out of the theatre as shaken & pummeled as I did from Empire Strikes Back! There were tears! No small feat on Joss Whedon's part.
But Trek TOS, Galactica TOS, & (to a significantly lesser degree) Lost In Space, are my go-to fun faves.
Hey! I'm currently accurizing my Robot BTW:
I'm such a kid...

Re: New finished Viper- one for sale- need Colonial critisism!
Love the Robot. Always a favorite. After college some friends and I went out to California for a bit. Got to meet with Greg Jein at his workshop while they were working on one of the Borg models for a later two part TNG episode. While there I noticed the chest piece to the robot in the corner and asked if it was real. They were restoring it for a display at that time. I asked if i could go over and see it and he said sure. Have to say it was a near religious experience to actually touch (and read) the buttons from the chest plate. I may have heard the angels singing at that moment.

OOooooo, I got chills just reading that! SO cool! My Son & I regularly watch "War of the Robots" to get a double dose of robotic excellence.
"Poor, sad machine..."
I plan on making him light up in future. It's my ongoing & endless pet project.

Dave -
Now, there's a model that I would dearly love to have... You meant to tell me that's a toy conversion, not the Monogram scale model? That's terrific! I'm inspired too, but finding a Starfighter is pretty hard to do these days without ponying up some serious money. I wish that someone would repop it like they did with the BSG models.

I found one that's not insanely expensive, but it looks to be built (but not painted):

Best I could find on short notice.
