5. Action Alerts: For All Battlestar Galactica Fans

Post Office Mail the Universal Entertainment Group

PRESS RELEASE: "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (4-hour miniseries) - SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking and beloved series in which 'a rag, tag fugitive fleet' of the last remnants of mankind searches for its true home. Fleeing the aliens responsible for the slaughter of their homeworld, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a whole new set of challenges. This intriguing twist on a classic will be written by writer Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission Impossible II) with Breck Eisner (Steven Spielberg's Taken; The Invisible Man) attached to direct. Distributed by USA Cable Entertainment, the Project will be executive produced by David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Spy Game)." The new miniseries is a re-imagining, and not a continuation, of the original Battlestar Galactica series, and may not include the original cast, characters, and themes! Send a post office mail to the Universal Entertainment Group! For more information, visit our Battlestar Galactica revival information page.

Boycott Commercial Advertisers of the Sci-Fi Channel

A brand-new web site has launched to support a boycott of commercial advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel (and Vivendi-Universal, USA Networks/Studios USA). Fans are encouraged to visit the new site, and boycott any sponsor of the "Battlestar Galactica" re-imagining mini-series scheduled for the Sci-Fi Channel in 2003. The boycott site includes a link to the new Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Advertiser Boycott Petition (which we've also included in the list of primary petitions, below.) Also, the site features an extensive list of current advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel, as well as a form letter that you can utilize. Help support the boycott of sponsors, and spread the word!

NEW! Sign the brand-new Larson/DeSanto 2004 Petition!

A brand-new petition is available for you to sign and show your support for Glen A. Larson and Tom DeSanto to work together on a possible new Battlestar Galactica motion picture. The petition states: "We the fans of the mighty Battlestar Galactica would like to see the combined work of Tom DeSanto and Glen Larson in a major motion picture. As fans we also hope and pray that these two men can bring about a possible continuation with both the characters and actors that made the show a worth while venture. We don't ask for much but hope for a show that will make those who passed proud (Lorne Greene, Lloyd Bridges, Jonathan Harris, and John Colicos). Finally we believe that actions can speak louder then the printed words and hope that both men will take this request to heart." Be sure to sign the petition and spread the word!

Sign the five primary Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The five primary Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The five petitions listed here are endorsed by BattlestarGalactica.com. Petition #1 is the Battlestar Galactica Revival Petition to signal the sincere hopes that original cast members (and their characters) be considered for regular roles in the new Battlestar Galactica pilot/ongoing series. Petition #2 is the Battlestar Galactica DVD Petition to urge Vivendi Universal and Studios USA to seriously consider the release of ALL episodes of the original Battlestar Galactica television series on DVD/VHS formats. Petition #3 is the Battlestar Galactica New Series Petition aimed directly at the current Sci-Fi Channel happenings and utilizes stronger wording. Petition #4 is the Battlestar Galactica Fight for Survival Petition to support the new Battlestar Galactica production only if it is done right with direct linage of the original series and includes core members of the original cast in their original roles and includes the original Galactica ship. Petition #5 is the Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Advertiser Boycott Petition and states that the thousands of fans are left little choice but to fight back in the only way left to us. We will vote with our wallets and pocketbooks. To those advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel, we caution you: Beware! We will boycott your advertised products for a period of two years if you sponsor the Battlestar Galactica re-imagining on the Sci-Fi Channel. These are five petitions that are endorsed by BattlestarGalactica.com and BattlestarPegasus.com. You can make a difference by signing the petitions yourself, and be sure to alert your family, friends, and fellow fans as well to visit BattlestarGalactica.com and sign the petitions!

Sign the four additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The four additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are also available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch Petition respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer, "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition, then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Management Petition requests a change in management at the Sci-Fi Channel. The petition urges the Sci-Fi Channel to focus more on sci-fi programming, including Battlestar Galactica, instead of broadcasting non sci-fi television shows, or axing sci-fi shows that have done well, such as Lexx and Farscape. The Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition is a humorous petition, but for a serious matter: Ron Moore's new Battlestar Galactica mini-series script for the Sci-Fi Channel calls for Starbuck to become a female! Starbuck, one of the original series' most popular characters, becomes Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the new mini-series, and "Starbuck" is merely her radio call sign. If you want Starbuck to remain a male and make your voice heard, be sure to sign the Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition. Finally, the Battlestar Galactica No Re-Imagining Petition is a succinct petition that supports Richard Hatch's "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" continuation concept over the Ron Moore re-imagining felgercarb. You can make a difference, so be sure to sign the four additional petitions, after you sign the five primary petitions!

The Straight Dope about the Disc Art

Another new article and picture for the upcoming Battlestar Galactica DVD Set was just published at TVShowsOnDVD.com! "In our news item the other day, we mentioned about how disc art was pictured, but that the menu shots also said 'Please Flip The Disc Over For Additional Bonus Materials'. Well, Universal spotted our article, and was kind enough to clear up the mystery. As it turns out, discs 1, 2, 3 and 6 are double sided and will therefore not include any art on the actual disc. So it makes sense that we'll see the pictured disc art on the 4th and 5th DVDs in the set. Here it is again, in case you missed it." For the additional picture of the DVD discs, be sure to check out the following link. Many thanks to Kingfish for posting the report at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums!

Target Date Set for the Letter Writing Campaign

CommanderTaggert at Colonial Fleets has proposed a Target Date for the Letter Writing Campaign: "I'm going to declare that the target date for the letter writing campaign has been set for Wednesday, 7 January 2004. That means that we should be prepared to drop our letters into the mailbox on Friday, 2 January 2004. Mark your calendars, and spread the word far and wide. The crux of our letters should be as John has suggested: 'We support a continuation of Battlestar Galactica saga, in the capable hands of series creator Glen Larson and producer Tom DeSanto. If possible we would support the use of original cast members such as Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch. We are also open to other ideas as well.' At this point, we're going to assume the CEO of NBC is the addressee. We'll have to monitor merger talks to be sure. The fallback is the President of Universal Studios. Updates will be posted here at Colonial Fleets, at Cylon Alliance, and at the Battlestar Galactica 2 Sci-Fi BBoard forum." NBC Wins Auction for Vivendi Assets

In an interesting turn of events, Reuters has reported that the NBC television network won Vivendi Universal's marathon show business auction on Tuesday with a merger plan to create a new entertainment industry giant valued at more than $40 billion. It will be interesting to see if NBC's acquisition that includes Universal Studios, USA Network, and the Sci-Fi Channel, will affect the Battlestar Galactica revival effort. Universal Studios is the owner of the original Battlestar Galactica, and it's subsidiary the Sci-Fi Channel is behind the upcoming Battlestar Galactica re-imagining mini-series on December 7th. DeSanto/Hatch/Larson Report

BattlestarGalactica.com webmaster Darrell Lawrence posted a new report at Colonial Fleets: "It's my understanding that Tom DeSanto and Richard Hatch had some discussions regarding a *very* special project that includes Glen Larson... Depending on how the 'remake' goes, a MOVIE project may be in the works involving all three men. Also, regarding Tom DeSanto: It was made very clear to me that the comments made in regards to him 'supporting' the remake are false. Those were spin-doctored comments in which what he said was taken out of context. You want a TRUE continuation? Help support DeSanto/Hatch/Larson TOGETHER! Discuss this here!!!" Battlestar Galactica DVD: Eye Movement, Menu Shots, and More!

New article and pictures for the upcoming Battlestar Galactica DVD Set were published at TVShowsOnDVD.com! "'Does the eye move?' We can't tell you how many times the question has been asked. Well, the answer is... YES! The Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Epic Saga box - which measures a huge 8.5" x 9" - features a lenticular eye, with the illusion of eye movement. So now your own personal Cylon can watch you move around the room. Want more artwork? You got it! We have taken the below portion of a trade magazine ad, and zoomed in on the disc art depicted therein. As you can see, the ad seems to show that all six discs use the same artwork." New Letter from Michelle Giacalone of GalacticonEvents.com

Michelle Giacalone has just published a new letter for GalacticonEvents.com: "Calling all science fiction fans! My name is Michelle Giacalone, and I am the coordinator's assistant for Galacticon, the 25th Anniversary convention to celebrate the long and often interesting history of the hit Sci-Fi show, Battlestar Galactica! We are setting up a 'Links' page on our website, Battlestargalactica.com. So far, we have averaged about 50,000 hits per month, so having a link from our site to yours will be a great way to promote science fiction in general, and your site specifically. What we are asking in return is a reciprocal link on your page, optimally in the form of a banner (can be downloaded at GalacticonEvents.com), until the actual convention on October 24th. Your link on our site, however, will remain up for the lifetime of the site, which, if this year is successful (which you can help it be!) will be continuously to prepare for next year's con. Why are we doing this? Galacticon isn't just about us, or about Battlestar Galactica- it is about the possible future of science fiction on television- whether the networks, producers, and executives will take science fiction fandom seriously as the source of their viewership, ratings, and income. The upcoming convention will give us an excellent chance to prove to the Sci-Fi Channel, the media, and the world that their audiences- fans- do have opinions, do have a voice in how to ensure success for their properties, and should be taken seriously! If we can get this message across here, it will help us pave the way for groups like the Farscape fandom, or any others who wish to make their opinions known on the type of quality science fiction programming we want to see! We want our site to be representative of Sci-Fi fandom of all types. Any help above and beyond a reciprocal link will be hugely appreciated, of course. If you plan to attend the convention, and would like to apply for a fan table for your group as well, great! Contact me as soon as possible, since fan tables are limited. We can also arrange for flyers and promotional materials to be displayed for those who cannot attend. I will also be arranging an informal meeting at Dragoncon this year, so let me know if you can attend. This will be a good time to give me any flyers you may want put out at Galacticon. Thank you, and I hope to hear from you soon! Michelle Giacalone, Coordinator's Assistant, Galacticonevents Inc., volunteers@galacticonevents.com, 520.399.3343, www.galacticonevents.com." Thanks to Michelle for the report, and for more information, be sure to visit GalacticonEvents.com!

Battlestar Galactica 2.0 Purists Be Warned in TV Guide

New report from Calvin at the Battlestar Galactica Discussion List: "Just perusing through this weeks TVGUIDE and found a one page ad for the Battlestar Galactica miniseries. I have re-typed the text below: 'BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2.0 Purists be warned: Sci Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica miniseries is definitely not the Galactica you remember. Fans of the cult '70s series will be most puzzled by the changes to macho pilot Starbuck, originally played by Dirk Benedict. In Sci Fi's incarnation, which premieres December 7, Starbuck is a woman (Katee Sackhoff) who shares what executive producer David Ickypoo calls a 'twisted and unique' history with fellow flyboy Apollo (Jamie Bamber). 'We felt that the swaggering, cocky pilot was a sort of cliché that had been done to death since Han Solo,' explains Ickypoo, who promises the pair won't have a clichéd romantic past. That's just as well; after all, in space no one can hear you pine. - Ethan Alter'" Thanks to Calvin for the report!

Battlestar Galactica Day at Hollywood Video in New York?

Ken Deep has posted a new report at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums: "I manage Hollywood Video in Plainview New York. I would love to have a Battlestar Galactica day to celebrate the release of the DVD Box Set. I know that week is the convention in LA, but if there are any fans or fan groups that aren't going and would like to put something together, feel free to post it here. I've done a few theme days before, and I have an Indiana Jones day planned, my second Star Wars day, and a Lord of the Rings theme. Local fan groups can set up a table, even raise money for the charity of choice, and I've had a post party at a bar/club I know. If this is something anyone is interested in, please post a reply." Thanks to Ken for posting the report. If you're interested in joining the possible event, be sure to reply to Ken at the following link.

Richard Hatch Bringing 25th Anniversary to the UK

New report from Ian Cullen of SciFiPulse.net: "Some of you will recall how crushed many UK fans were last year, when Richard Hatch was cancelled from the Cult TV Festival in Southport England. Richard will be there from Friday the 10th through to the 13th of October. Of course he will more than likely bring his The Second Coming trailer with him. Report the Mini-Series at the Parents Television Council Web Site

New announcement from long-time Battlestar Galactica revivalist JJRAKMAN: "If you feel the Moore screenplay is offensive to you in some way, you can take action. Write the Parents Television Council. We may be able to get them to put this production on a list, which states that the film will not be family oriented. Also, this organization is in the enviable position to be in direct contact with many of the nations largest advertisers and have actually got some of them to pull advertising from various shows due to their content. Be sure to include any elements of the screenplay you feel to be offensive beyond the 'It's not BSG' level. And why you feel it may not be appropriate for children. This may include, but not limited to: 1) Violence inflicted on an infant child, 2) Sexually deviant content, 3) Disrespect for parental figures, 4) Disrespect for authority figures, 5) Poor portrayal of the military, and 6) Usage of the name of a formerly family friendly show to pass off Soft Core themes to young viewers. Make sure to ask them to please initiate an action alert on this production. Above all be respectful, they have a gallant cause." For the complete report and the link to ParentsTV.org, be sure to visit the following link at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums. Many thanks to JJRAKMAN for the announcement, and his incredible support of the true Battlestar Galactica revival effort!
