Yes love Danny Kayes films. If only they would release all the movies he made on region 1 and 2 DVD.

I was looking for one on video awhile back called A Song Is Born. But they wanted $80 for it.

I liked AI too. It was a good movie and not many make me cry, AI did that! I cried like a baby, I think anyone who is a mother will be touched by that one. I have only watched it once, but once is enough to know it was worth seeing. Don't think they make enough tissues for me watch a second time.

Cool choices Jewels! We recently got Sound of Music on DVD. I have always loved it. Of course, music and I became paramours long before I saw my first musical. So Sound of Music being as wonderful as it is, is special to my heart. Climb Every Mountain is awesome.

I overlooked one important genre: HORROR FILMS


My favorite horror film to this day, is, always was, and ever shall be:

THE EXORCIST (especially the 2000 restored version)

I was only 5 years old when this film came out. I begged my parents to take me to the drive in to see it. Foolish I, I had no idea what I was getting into.

Well, the film started out safe enough...but then...it happened! Linda Blair growled the most horrible, terrifying sound I'd ever heard in my life, and I made a swan dive for under the dash. I did not resurface until later, and then I caught this scene:

REGAN/DEMON: You're mother's in here with us, Karras. Would you like to leave a message? I'll see that she gets it.

KARRAS: (smiling cynically) If that's true, then you must know my mother's maiden name. What is it?

The possessed child just lies there, staring blankly at Father Damien Karras.

KARRAS: (challengingly) What is it?!

I was totally terrified of going to bed that night, and my dad wouldn't let me live it down for days. He would sometimes do his best demonic voice just before I went to bed. Looking back on it now, it's pretty funny, but back then....I was petrified.



Okay, let's skip ahead a few years later, I'm about 12 years old. The Exorcist is about to make it's network television premiere on CBS. Figuring that this time I could handle it, I begged my mom to let me watch it. Ahhh....foolish I, had I not learned my first lesson? The movie came on, and I still found myself averting my eyes in terror at most of the scenes in the film, even as tamed down as it was on CBS.
I kept begging my mom to change the channel, but she was determined that I was going to see this through to the end. Hello....more sleepless nights?


Well, then I join the Army at 17. In Texas, some friends and I are in my barracks watching The Exorcist on my VCR. By this time, I had gotten over my initial shocks of seeing the film, and could sit all the way through it. We all laughed out loud when Regan :upchuck: 'ed on Father Merrin, and one of my friends exclaimed: "What a hocker!" I never saw the movie the same way again......having felt I conquered it through one moment of laughter.



Until, in 2000, the film was rereleased into theaters with restored scenes, some subtle visual enhancements, and the talked about Spiderwalk scene. Although I did not hide in fear, I felt the chills go up my spine yet again.

It took me many many years to conquer this masterwork film. Since then, no so called "horror" film has even fazed me!

Great choices martok! Ooh, I forgot about History of the World Part I till you mentioned it -- hilarious! Got it on DVD now and I got to share it with my fam.

And you're right, nothing is scarier than the Exorcist!

Glad to see you here as well. Yes, History of the World Pt.1 is excellent. "it's good ta' be da' king!"

It looks like Exorcist IV is being put on hold for now. Apparently the studio was none too happy with their previous director/writer's script. (Not enough blood, gore, and vomiting). Funny, but I never really associated the Exorcist with slasher elements. The first movie had blood, and vomiting, and all that stuff...but not in the way it sounds like these guys are wanting it.

Exorcist IV is supposedly a prequel involving Father Merrin's first encounter with the demon that had possessed Regan.
