Exclamation YAAARGH. My battlecar just died.

Yup... crack in the engine block.

Lesseee.... I can get a used engine installed for $2000 or I can give up and go shopping for a new transport.

Can't afford either.

Already HAD a used engine installed two years ago for the same problem.

Ugh. When it rains it pours.

Sorry to hear about this, Gordon.

I just made the plunge for a new set of wheels over the holidays and part of the reasoning was my vehicle doing the "I'm broke, fix me" song and dance.

There is something different about the car market, though. Dealers seem a bit more willing to 'meet you halfway', especially if you go into the dealership armed with paperwork from researching the vehicle on the web.

We had a printout of the vehicle that we wanted, with all the details, down to the VIN#. The dealer said "Ok"....made sure that they still had it in inventory and then, we worked out the deal. Believe it or not, they never tried to 'push' another vehicle.

Just out of curiousity was this a GM or a Ford?

Those companies are in desperate straits at the moment.

As a matter of fact, yes.

But if you think it's expensive to fix a cracked engine block in a 1995 Escort Wagon, then imagine how much it would be to replace the engine block in a 1995 Morgan Horse!

LOL!

Yeah, we're headed out this weekend to look at used cars. We simply can't afford a $200+ a month payment for a new car right now, but we have enough in savings to probably get a decent used car cash on the barrelhead.

I'm calling it "the stop-gap car"... something that'll get us through until we can get our equity loan paid down enough to handle a new car payment. Or until we win the lottery. Whichever comes first.

And about that lottery thing... I'm not greedy. If I win the lottery, all I really want is a million or so. Just enough to make life nice and comfy. I'll be happy to share it with however many other winners will leave me with a cool mil. After taxes.

The saga continues.

We got the engine replaced with a used engine (half the price of a new one) and then the very next day the oil gasket went out. Got that replaced. While driving the car off the repair lot, the belt tensioners gave way and so it went right back into the shop.

Its functioning now. Keep your fingers crossed we can make it to October when we'll have saved the money to put a down payment on a new car. Gonna be tight.
