A really BIG reason that I love Galactica...

Okay, getting really personal here...
I am prone to depression. There are fleeting moments when I question the need to go on. I sometimes feel like our world is doomed. Like no one can change, like we are lost as a species, and I feel lost as an individual.
But when I watch Galactica, I feel the hope, the drive to overcome adversity. If Apollo can deal with the loss of Serena, can take care of Boxey, can fight the continuing Cylon threat... who am I to feel like I can't go on?
Okay, it's just a TV show that got cancelled years ago, but it's one that keeps me going. Making Viper models... just now finishing really nice lasers...
I'm a child of the Seventies. Movies & TV were my salvation. Growing up in a home where my parents fought a lot (many times physically) taught me that reality was a thing to be avoided at all costs. But getting lost in fantasy is a swing in the other extreme direction.
Galactica was and is a strange midground IMO.

The original Star Trek showed where we can go.
The New BSG showed how we are in trouble.

But I find TOS Galactica a strangely compelling tale of perseverance through the void of uncertainty.
Plus: I love the Vipers!

Hope this wasn't too heavy of a topic. I'm usually not this depressing.
I guess I just wanted to vent/express appreciation.

Nope, not a bad topic at all.

Ok working around rule #1 (which I respect, since I like to avoid pissing contests with another set of fans) I like how the human race is depicted as noble. To a good degree, I believe the human race can be noble. Some OTHER race made the cylons, they turned on their masters, and sought to wipe out the humans.

To me this just seemed to symbolize that sometimes life just comes at us. You are going about your life, minding your own business and then, WHAMMO, someone or just life itself decides to be a jerk. Much like my life and yours has come at us. I think anyone can relate.

Do you cave to something happening to you, or do you continue to be who you are despite? And furthermore, when you have a loss, to no blame of your own, do you continue despite?
