Does anyone know anything about the plot of the 7 hour mini series that was originally planned by ABC. Was the fleet supposed to find Earth in the end?
Were the Pegasus, BOL and Count Iblis to be part of it ?

Actually the package...I think... were for a Three hour pilot, and two 2-hour episodes. So that would be the pilot, the one where they go to Kobol and Serina dies, and (I'm just guessing from a foggy memory) the gun on the ice planet one.
Could be wrong though.

I would have guessed Living Legend, myself. It was a more cohesive story, contained all the elements - and I liked it better than Gun. But that's just me.

Tommy had it right.
Pegasus was developed after the series started, when ABC realized that sprinkling in some 2 parters helped keep the audience/rating interest higher.

How they were filmed.
Saga of A Star World.
Lost Planet of the Gods.
The Gun on Ice Planet Zero.
The biggest changes were the addition of Cassiopeia. One draft of the pilot had her dying on Carillon.

Actually The Gun on Ice Planet Zero was filmed before Lost Planet of the Gods.

GOIPZ also started filming before the decisions were made to bring back Cassiopeia and Baltar for the long-haul, which explains why she isn't on the mission as a med-tech, and why all of the Baltar scenes are clearly done long after the fact.

Whoa! Interesting! I didn't know that about the Gun on IPZ eps. That would make sense. I think that is kinda neat.
Hmm... Anyone care to guess when the signal to go to full series happened? I know it happened while shooting the first seven was still going on. Not sure if the pilot aired before the go signal was given. Thought that would make sense. 65 million viewers would make the network very eager.

When I was a kid back in 1979 I remember being told that whether Serina lived or died was decided based on the financial demands of the actress Jane Seymoure and that the writers would have preferred not to have killed off her character. Is that true or just a rumor?

Partly, from my understanding, antelope. They brought her back for LPOG with the understanding that she would not be around for the rest of the series. Her film career appeared to be taking off and she declined to commit to the series.
They (and we) would have loved to have seen her continue.

I heard that her agent advised her not to remain on the show(Sciography special).

I would add that if one watches "The Long Patrol" closely it also shows signs of having been shot before LPOTG. The references to "leaving the star system", the fact that a cut scene shows Cassiopeia calling herself a socialator (and she is wearing the socialator outfit from Saga throughout the episode), and the more prominent role Athena has in the episode are the real giveaways. I think this indicates that the negotiations to get Jane Seymour just to come back for LPOTG dragged on a lot longer than they expected.

I'm not sure if I got this from the commentary on the DVD, or from another source, but it seems to me that I read or heard somewhere that the shooting schedules for SSW and GIZ overlapped.

I wonder if Universal will come out with another set? I noticed that the price of the sets have gone up. Also there are a ton of missing scenes that I found while browsing another site which I reposted at Rycon in the tos/1980/03 section. Where they shot? If so are they still out there?

The original Saga script had Serina dying at the end due to space cancer from the pluton poisoning. They cut all her dying scenes and then wanted her back for the series once they got the green light.
She was stunned at what happened to her character and about all the missing scenes. She played hard ball to come back for one more episode and that is why she was killed off in Lost Planet...
I have never heard of Long Patrol being filmed earlier than Lost Planet. Much of the language was just plain messed up with regards to galaxies and planetary systems...but it is a good point since Cassie was wearing her socialator dress throughout that episode.
Just when did she turn into the pristine med-tech???

Nor had I, but there are a number of deleted or alternate scenes on the DVD that suggest it. As for the language being messed up...yes it is, if we view the Galactica universe as we see ours. But what if our model of the universe is flawed, or at least very incomplete?
If you accept a few assumptions about the Galactica universe, then suddenly, their language (and a whole lot of other things) start to make sense.
