One supposes that there are more planes aboard the Galactica than just the front-line fighters, much as a US aircraft carrier carries more than just F-15s. Many combat aircraft have two-seat models, or other variants. Perhaps the Galactica has such in her hangars? There are the standard passenger shuttles, and in WOTG we hear of fueling shuttles. A two-seat Viper is a possibility. As to the "not much room for a daggit" remark, well, a fighter isn't built to carry pets. Besides, I can't imagine a pooch going along on a training flight!

Adding a bit to Senmut's reply, it may be the actual configuration of the seats, in the 2-seated Viper, which don't allow room for a daggit (but may allow plenty of room for a person). Just a thought.

Its actually quite normal in the real world to have a two seat variant in fighter planes. Often the two seater is a trainer craft, where a rookie can fly in tandem with a veteran pilot. The F-15 is normally a singel person fighter plane, though there is a two seat combat capable trainer variant.

If you look at the windo configuration of this image, you will see the normal cockpit of a single seat aircraft.

This is the two seat viper

Galactica 1980 used the two seat version almost entirely. In reality it was probably added to allow Jamie the earthwoman to travel with Troy and Dillon.

Default The Return of Starbuck

The two seater was used in that episode. Stock footage was spliced in from the episode titled The Young Lords which featured the single seat Starhound Viper.

Actually, Apollo did take Adama down in a Viper in the first episode. Though its a sort conundrum how they both fit in. Supposedly there should have been a two seater variant at that time. But of course, there wasn't one available at the time.

btw- the two seater for some reason had a weird modification for the episode where Dillon and Troy's Viper was stranded in space. There was a space walk sequence and the Viper again had some modifications to it. This one really was weird. They redid the center fuselage where it joined to the main engines. And it was a crude fix. They used a rectangular block to join it. I assume that this allowed better camera shots of the two seater interior.. but the outside looked horrible.

Its literally a big block!!!

God, I never noticed that before Tom, and me a closet a G'80 fan!

There also seems to be something on the lip of the high engine intake as well.

In the pic Troy is facing Xavier who is posing as Lt. Nash. The actor playing him is the late Jeremy Brett who is noted for probably playing the quintissential Sherlock Holmes on British TV.

Regards,

Peter

P.S. The turbo lasers appear to be different.

Perhaps, between HOG and GAL80, some improvements were made to the Viper's guns. Why not? As to a two-seater, I still think an armed two-seater would be available aboard the ship. At least the ORIGINAl followed something like proper military practice!
