Default Any beer festivals nearby?

Chicago is a beer town. Anyone know of homebrew competitions, open chess tournaments,or any other activities going on near that time frame?

So what are the odds that Richard will be showing his Galactica trailer?

According to the link, Richard will be screening both trailers. That's good news. Hopefully my attending this convention will make up for not making it to Galacticon

I think the general rule of thumb with Richard is if he's at a con, and a projector is available: trailers are shown. It's worth the wait, John.

Default I've been in touch with the convention promoter also...

And offered the 25th anniversary retrospective that my wife and I produced which was shown at Galacticon (which we can't put on the Galacticon DVD because of clip licensing issues) for them to show also. Chances are it will be shown since they expressed an interest in looking at it, along with Richard's trailer and maybe even "Magellan". I'm sure Richard will let everyone know for sure before the event. It will be a great event!

aljav: welcome & it kinda depends on what you want to do. The admission's very reasonable, even if you buy the 2day ticket and only use one of it.

I noticed that they've added Herb Jefferson, now. That makes 5 Galactica guests at one show. Okay, who all definitely plans to go?

I'm really seriously looking into this one, especially since I could not afford Galacticon (but will buy the DVD very soon)....

Just bumping this to note that JACK STAUFFER is now on the guest list: 6 Galactica stars in one place...

Also, DG lists a possible last minute mystery guest that's never been to a Galactica con....???ideas?

Hi

On the website for the con, they list a 'making of the trailer' video. Which trailer is it for? BSG:T2C or GWoM? BTW, I will be getting into Chicago Friday afternoon.

As for the mystery guest, if it's who I here it is.

Thanks,

Jim

Richard asked me to give him extra time to show a making of the Trailer video see Quote below

"I have three trailers to play. The Battlestar Trailer, my new Magellan trailer and the behind the scenes making of trailer. The BG one is 4 minutes, the Megellan one is 17 minutes. And the behind the scenes one is 20 minutes"

I'll be there on Saturday only.

I went to Galacticon and, as much as I love the BG cast, I have commitments on Sundays (almost all Sundays, lol) so I opted out only for the Saturday tickets.

I'm looking forward to seeing them in MY stomping ground this time =).

Angry Chicago Con

Well I went to my first Galactica Con or for that matter any Con, and let me tell you that it SUCKED!!! Seeing the actors was THE only thing that made the visit worth wild. The showing of the trailers was horrible, the sound was crap and the DVD machine was improperly handled. The trailers them selves were awsome, I just wish I could have enjoyed them better. This event was poorly ran, there was maybe fifty people there. I don't know if thats the norm. I hope not. The Con its self was terrible there was only a handful of venders selling crap.

You have no idea, obviously, how hard it is to put on a first time event... I hope if you ever do, that people are a little more considerate in their approach. I know as a customer everyone has a right to express dissatasfactions, but 'it sucked' is hardly going to register as helpful feedback for the future.

Who was the special surprise guest if they showed ?

Or

Who was the special surprise guest if they had turned up ?

Sadly I couldn't attend the convention, being on the wrong part of the planet.... but I'd be interested to know who the unknown guest was.....?????

I thought there were a good number of vendors, variety of stuff, but I wasn't even shopping.

I hope the turn-out was better today.

The speaker system wasn't up to the sound quality of the dvd trailers (it didn't have enough base depth so the base distorted) but the newest Magellan trailer rocked. The storyline was much clearer. The second coming trailer is such a bittersweet thing--I think the video for both looked better than at Galacticon (the projector was a bit brighter. I wish I could have gone to the play Richard and Laurette did, but my little one would not have sat through it & frankly, she'd wiped me out by mid afternoon.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know who the 'special mystery guest' was.....

If they has said it was to be Rick Springfield, I would have been less excited about a special mystery guest being someone like Maren Jenson.....

Rick Springfield didn't take an interest in Galacticon, and declined to sign for the card set, so I wouldn't have thought that he would turn up for a scifi convention...

But of course a mystery guest was catch people's attention..........

Thanks for letting me know...........

Frankly, I have to totally disagree with 'saintg' (who is obviously badly named to boot). I thought Galacticon was a very fun Con with a lot going on. Running a convention for the first time is NOT EASY. There's a thousand and one things that can go wrong and while there were things that didn't go smoothly at Galacticon there were also things that went great! And I thought the DVD machine (which, btw, was connected to a projection machine to show on that big screen) was pretty good.

As for 50 guests? Obviously we weren't at the same convention because there were at least 500 people at Galacticon - if not more than that.

There were some GREAT panels, ones I very much enjoyed and still enjoy thinking about even now. I thought, for everything that wasn't planned that weekend that those who were running the event did a good job of trying to correct things.

All in all, for a first time con, still a big thumbs up from me!
