Well the last time I was here I was so upset over the blatant "mo money" attitudes from Moore and Sci-Fi that I stated I would not watch the show.
Well with a sick kid and nothing else on I did watch the show.
Why did they bother calling this Battlestar Galactica?
The first few minutes proved "this" show is being aimed at a late-teen and early-twenties crowd. This series is not aimed at or intended for the original show's young audience. It had more of a 90210 or MTV Real World than Babylon5 of SG-1 feeling to me. The baby killing cylon was over the top but this show is trying to shock or be more "realistic."
I actually like some of the acting involved and sort of enjoy the numerous character flaws every single member of the colonies seems to suffer from.
The special effects are impressive. I especially like the maneuvering thrusters on the vipers. It definately has a documentary or B5's "ISN 36 Hours" episode / news special kind of feel.
The sex scenes seemed like a complete waste of film. Maybe this is because I am in my thirties and not new to puberty. Or this might be because I am long-time married and don't remember what I am supposed to do during sex.
Overall the first installment was not as bad as I feared but also not as good as I hoped. It actually felt, and besides the CGI looked, like a "made for cable" movie. Worse than "Hollywood" but better than the "Lifetime" channel.
It is a decent film that could have weakly stood on its own without the BG title.
On a scale from one to ten it earns a solid five. Not very good but not too bad. I'll watch tonights episode an hope it gets better instead of worse.
