Lightbulb Get your CG model printed in plastic

This company will print your 3D CG files in a variety of materials including ABS plastic, sandstone, glass, aluminum, and even stainless steel.

http://www.shapeways.com/

I believe they require an STL file to be uploaded.

And I'm not sure, but it looks like you may be able to set up a CafePress-like store.

I'm willing to be there's several here who would lay down cash for a Cobra.

I wonder if they could pull of a viper pilot helmet?

As long as you have an STL file of one, I don't see why not.

Most people use this site for Gaming sized models. BAttlestars and other ships no more then about 5 inches or so.

I believe there is a size limit for the machine and something wearable is well outside the size limit.

Yeah, a local musuem where I live offered us 3D students a free printing of one of our characters that we made in 3D Max.

The limit for their equipment was a 10X10X10 inch cube of ABS.

So there probably is a limit of some kind.

Though, I'm going to hazard a guess here and say that this isn't the only 3D printing service out there. I'd bet there are more, who may have different size limits.

Regardless, a Colonial Viper for instance, could be printed in analler parts and assembled later, just like any other model.

It would be an interesting project, depending on the price.

I had an idea to use them to create figures and other items to supliment the 1/72 scale Vipers models. Maybe even a conversion kit to make a Scarlet Class Viper, even a full kit to make a DeSanto Viper.

And a 1/72 scale Land Ram

Very interesting. Will have to investigate more about porting Lighwave to their working format.
