Very interesting site...it does cause one to think and study. Interesting points of view this site provides. Whether one would agree or disagree with their claims is besides the point...just as long as it makes you want to learn more and dig a bit deeper...then I'd say it has done its job. Good post Bryan!!

The link doesn't work for some reason, (I have this issue with all of your links, Damocles. Not sure why) but if you cut and paste it into the address window of a browser it will take you there.

Yeah, cut&past should work. The link itself is trying to link to a page titled "http:///". Note the three slashes.
I don't know what's causing this, but it's easy as pie to fix when editing. In fact, below I have editied it and that version should work fine:

Default Toba and Human evolution

An interesting article.

http://www.wac.uct.ac.za/wac4/sympos...s/S017rmp1.pdf

I think you will find that the Toba bottleneck hypothesis is an interesting counter to the Atlantis nonsense previously noted in earlier posts. It may be an actual percursor event for our Babel myths.

I've enjoyed the articles on these links. Good finds. I haven’t read through the entirety of Dr. Santos’ site in over a year, and only skimmed it when you posted your links. I do find the site to be somewhat simplistic and sensationalistic, rather than technical. I am also not overly enamored with his conclusions.

For all of that, I am not sure how either of the articles you linked to counter his hypothesis, either on the whole or in part. Indeed, they seem to add support to the foundation of some of his arguments.

I would be interested in hearing your reasoning.

Just a quick quip;

Mythology in Galactica is one of the reasons why I loved the origional series. The strong tie to mythological elements gave the series an Epic feeling that outshone the dated feel of the series.

The new series fails in many ways, cheif among them the fact that their mythology seems akin to something cheap and plastic found at the dollar store. It's only there for sake of display, not for the main focus of the show. It's one of the reasons why I loathe it and moore so terribly.

I found the wiki article on this and lost it, but wanted to find it again but I couldn't remember the name. Thanks!

I used to love the mythology of the show and the fact that there were so many names taken from it used throughout the show.

Apollo; Athena; Adama; Lucifer; Troy, etc.

The only bones I have to pick is that nothing was used from Celtic mythology, such as Celtic Knotwork as a motif, or even used for embroidery or any other kind of decoration.

There were no Celtic names like Liam, Brandon, Morrigan, Saoirse, Finn, Moira, Catriona, or Fiona used at all.

And to call Siress Belloby a witch is an insult to all witches.

Hag, yes; witch no.

And even hags may be insulted at the comparison.

How about calling her 'Baba Yaga'? She seems the type to eat men alive in her spare time, and have a house with a pair of chicken legs to get about.

a symbol seen around the show, in particular on the Pyramid card decks and military vehicles like the LandRam, commonly referred to as the ancient Hebrew Star of David. Not as commonly known, this symbol can be broken up into other various symbols in alchemy, in particular the four classical elements:

So . . . Free Masonry originated on Kobol? Now that's an interesting path to explore!

I would personaly hesitate to consider the Toban bottleneck Theory as evidence for anything. they used minimal sampling, and ignored other data that actualy casts doubt on the out of Africa theory. namely genetic samples that showed modern man might have arisen across the planet from the Archaic man.

recently they have discovered that some one was sailing the seas 100k years ago, but hesitate to say it was modern man. since according to modern theory Modern man was just learning to walk and use leaves at the outhouse. also in Turkey they uncovered a massive temple complex that predates the egyptians by three or four thousand years.

Crete is also turning into a treasure trove of early controversial finds pointing to much earlier advanced civilizations.

BSG was one of the reasons I got so interested in History and Archeology.

well anyway.. you folks have a good one.

Yes, I was just reading about the Turkish discovery the other day. Here's a link for those who are interested.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/233844/page/1

Evidence that "Modern man" either existed concurrently or even before Neanderthal man keeps cropping up, lending credence to the ancient astronaut theories, and giving fodder to fanfiction writers across the BSG universe.
