OT ANIME: Witch Hunter Robin
premeiring next monday night at midnight is Witch Hunter Robin.

Quote:
The story:
For hundreds of years, "craft users" have been appearing in soceity. These are people of unusual ability. And they are almost always dangerous.
To combat this unholy menance, the church has secretly been waging war against them. The church becomes integrated into the world's goverments, and even exert control over the police. Their main weapon is a bubbling green substance called "Orbo" which they wear in cross shaped containers. It can absorb a limited amount of magic. They also have Orbo guns with bullets laced with Orbo that can't be magically deflected.
In this black world a young craftuser is born. Robin aligns her soul with the church and hunts down her own kind. But if she ever becomes "too" powerful, her partner is a cold dark brooding witch killer.

This is a heavy drama. No comedy at all. A serious story that takes place over 26 episodes. It does starts a little slow. But its a good story overall, especially from the midpoint on. It is a little bit like X-files with the Coven replacing Aliens. There is hints of something very dark going on. But you have to wait as the characters discover the truth themselves.
Prepare youself for it manifests beginning next monday night at the bewitching hour on Cartoon Network. Turn the lights off while you watch.

I like it. Its subtle and a bit slow and quiet, but always dark and moody.
Though I'm not sure if you will like it. It delves into the world of witchcraft. No calls to the devil or anything. Just runes and a tie in to the salem witch trials.

I watched it! I loved it!!!
Did anyone else?
The voices are pretty good. All except the bartender who comes off like a child molestor! LOL. He and Robin had much softer voices in japanese. Robin especially was very very shy. Not so much here.
But I like the office personel better in english.
So anyone see this?

But I don't understand why they are so cold towards Robin? And what part does that blonde chick have since she is always late and only has a thing to go shopping??
Shed some light???

hey Kristi!!
They are a little cold cause Robin is a replacement for a team member that they lost. And being Witch Hunters they are a little wary of witches. Things will lighten up.
Dojima, the blonde, is a bit of a ditz. Her father is very powerful. He got her the job on the STN-J. And frankly nobody can fire her. She's a good person. But she doesn't take the job seriously.
I hope that helps. Any more questions?

That part was kinda badly translated.
They were telling her how hunters use the Orbo to protect them. She said she didn't want it and it disgusted her.

http://www.psychic-city.com/runes.html
I found a good site that explains the magical runes you see in Witch Hunter. They are Norse (viking) in origin. Think Odin, Thor, etc.
In last nights episode with the guy who pops out a ton of lightbulbs, the old which gives a young witch the power to evade his captors. But when he tries to use it against Robin she makes a symbol that looks like an X on the ground. That is "GEBO", the rune letter for "gift". It means exchanges. As in taking and giving to achieve balance.
At the end of the episode, she scrawls out Robin's symbol, Hagalaz. It looks like an H with a diagonal crossbar. Almost an N but not quite. Hagalaz means destruction, uncontrollable, And also some sort of trial that leads toward harmony.
[hr]
In tommorrow's night's episode you will see the old witch's sign, Ansuz, which looks like an F. Ansuz stands for enlightenment.
Pretty neat huh?
btw DON'T MISS TOMMORROW NIGHT! Alot of the main story revolves upon what happens next. Its the start of the real heart of the story.

Thomas I'm not sure if I get that network but it's 1130 pm here right now so I'll go check what the listings on the tv say. Well I'm back and from 1 to 257 channels no mention of it or inuyasha so I guess I'm sol, which is a bummer! thanks for trying to help though

Don't shoot me Thomas, but I missed the episode you told me not to miss. I was ducking for cover and sitting in the dark. March came in like a LION here in Texas last night.
