Explain your 'screen name' and why you chose it!
I'll go first then!
Draco was the cohort of Cylon in ancient Greek History. He was a bit of a stickler for law and order and extolled the virtue's of ultra harsh sentences for even minor crimes (mostly just death really) even minor theft etc.
It's where we derive the term 'Draconian' from.
In 'Saga' we see a Centurion introduce himself as 'Flight Leader Serpentine', so some Centurions at least have names.
Draco has a reptilian sound to it so fits for a Cylon.
Larson named the antagonists in BRIT25thC 'Draconians' so he possibly toyed with the name for the Cylons originally!

Well.....I picked up the tag while stationed in Okinawa. I was the only person in my battalion to take "non-light reading" to the field: "Small Arms of the World, 5th ed.", by E.C. Ezell(the gun-nuts on the list know just how large a book I'm talking about). My company training NCO(I was in the Marine Corps) took one look at it, and named me "Warmachine".....and I spent the rest of the year being forced to listen to the KISS song of the same name.

When I first came on the internet there was a trend not to give your real name on the internet...for privacy reasons. Everyone took a nickname. My nickname in school was Ernie stemming from my nickname, so I chose to use that name. Unfortunately, a lot of places I went to already had that name registered. One site suggested adding a significant number to the end.....as a YES completist I chose the name of one of their albums....90125.
There is actually a thread about this in the cafe. Although it hasn't been posted on for a while....

BRG is short for British Racing Green.
As you can guess, I'm a fan of Formula 1 racing. And it's an easy screen name to remember.

Well, not having a screen name in the conventional sense, I don't have to explain mine. As to why I don't use one, that goes back to the days of my being involved with Internet forums where there was a lot of heated political discussion and other sundry things (especially on JFK Assassination boards) and during that, I took the view of always being willing to sign my name to certain points of view I was expressing. I just stuck to that policy everywhere else I went, even though they were places where it was all friendly chat and discussion (as it is here!)

Three reasons for Damocles as a tag;
http://www.research.ibm.com/DAMOCLES/
http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/c...oclesSword.htm
And it reminds me, personally, that beneath the obvious truth; there is always the three- edged SWORD that the smugly superficial miss.
A little CHAOS is a GOOD thing. is my tag for a reason. Without chance, there is no CHANGE in the.......... without risk there is no JUDGEMENT of the.......... without discernment, there is no RECOGNITION of the......TRUTH.
As always.

Even though my post is missing, you'll see referrences to what my post was about in the thread BST posted.
Which brings up an interesting idea in which I don't want to steal this thread, so I'll make a new one.
Just look for the "What does my handle mean to you?"

Well for me, I am a Star Trek DS9 fan, and Martok is the name of the Klingon General who became Chancellor after Worf killed Chancellor Gowron. Martok is honorable, has a great sense of humor, and is quite ferocious, especially as a starship/fleet commander.
The 2112 comes from my being a Rush fan, taken from what is probably their best album of the same title (2112). Neil Peart, the drummer, is apparently an avid science fiction fan.
D-d-d-d--d-dat's all folks.
Me.

gee, we really have been indulging in archeology haven't we??
All the stuff in my explaination post is still true (post number 180something, I'm always late to a party)
relevant bit for this thread is
Quote:
Both here and at CA, my handle is Lara. Originally it was going to be Lara's Cat, but the CA board wouldn't take it and locked out any changes (it wasn't the mods, the system..) Sandy rescued Lara out of it for me.
Either way its related to my BSG fanfic, more specifically to fanfic I used to write with penfriends back in the early 80's, but that I continue on my own now.
Lara is a warrior like Sheba was or Athena should have been.
Lara's Cat is the image she allows an entity to take when she has a near death experience after a launch bay accident, that is something close to an angel or spirit. At the time she doesn't believe its real. The proof comes later, but the use of the Cat for me, is to represent a presence that is real, but malleable.
|
Sig has changed again, I'm back to using a fanfic line of mine where the story of the exodus from the 12 colonies was being told.
So, I guess a psychiatrist would have a lot to say about impersonating a character from your own fanfic. Someone with less learning and more bluntness just might yell 'wanker!!'
Cheers,
Lara

Poking head out from under rock....
Mocha = My Dog
2112 = Rush Album. ( As I agree with Martok2112 in this being one of their best, my personal fave is still "Permanent Waves" but that is too long to write all the time and leaves too many changes for typos. )
back under the rock...

Ah, who are you calling "old"?
If Rush would just stop making new records maybe I'd stop liking them. At least I'm still younger than them.

I can dig it all,..
archeology?, yep! Love the stuff...ancient egypt and the British Dark Ages have the most shelf space. Absolutely envious of the exhibition in Sandy's part of the world right now. Almost got husband convinced a holiday to Egypt at Christmas is a good thing!!
Concept albums? absolutely. Two most fav artists...will buy any new album even without hearing it
.Alan Parsons /Project (new album, A Valid Path is brill and has a re recorded track of the Raven featuring Alan Parson's son's work...next gen Parson sound engineering so cool!!!)
Mike Oldfield... Tubular Bells (all 6 incarnations of it..), Hergest Ridge, Earth Moving., Songs of Distant Earth (at least that one's got a scifi concept) all his virtual reality stuff..
Gotta go put some on now and educate the neighbours..
Cheers,
Lara (four decades old and proud of it!!)

My screen name is an abbreviated version of one I use on many forums, it’s a date and time I’m sure that is insignificant to the people on this board.

My screenname is a combination of my old CB handle "Capt. Nike"(based on what I'm known to wear, Nike atire) and the nickname I've carried around for the last 20 years, "Miloman". A former co-worker who shares the same first name as I do came up with "Miloman" to avoid confusion and it stuck. I combined the two and the rest is, well, a nightmare. Just kidding.
