Heh, I'm looking as well. I'm thinking of using a particle effect of some kind.

A bit late I know, and I'm speaking as a Cinema4D user, but maybe a combination of volumetric lights and/or fog would work.

A combination of a simple teardrop shape, with the right fractal texturing and fractal transparancies, and heavily blurred particle effects should produce a reasonable "Turbo" effect. I haven't used max, but there are tons of plugins available for it, if you can find one like Lightwaves "Steamer" plugin, that would be handy.
