Muffit BSG - Re-arrange episode order....

So with creative re-working of the episode order, since we only had one season to work with, you can have a complete story from start to finish.

This came from talking to a friend of mine yesterday and talking about the Eastern Alliance and Terra. How crazy that the Galactica came across this race that was space ferring and yet because they are told that is not Earth, they leave.

Stupid!

Looking over the episodes you have the episodes where they are meeting the Eastern Alliance, episodes dealing with Baltar, and at some point a cut off of the Cylons till Hand of God.

So here is the list...

* 1.01 Saga of a Star World (3 hours)
* 1.02 Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I
* 1.03 Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II
* 1.04 The Lost Warrior
* 1.05 The Long Patrol
* 1.06 The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part I
* 1.07 The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part II
* 1.08 The Magnificent Warriors
* 1.09 The Young Lords
* 1.10 The Living Legend, Part I
* 1.11 The Living Legend, Part II
* 1.12 Fire in Space
* 1.13 War of the Gods, Part I
* 1.14 War of the Gods, Part II
* 1.15 The Man with Nine Lives
* 1.16 Murder on the Rising Star
* 1.17 Greetings from Earth (2 hours)
* 1.18 Baltar's Escape
* 1.19 Experiment in Terra
* 1.20 Take the Celestra
* 1.21 The Hand of God

Galactica 1980

* 1.10 The Return of Starbuck

-------------------------------------------

These are the episodes that that we can work with, so just arrange them a bit and you get this...

* 1.01 Saga of a Star World (3 hours)
* 1.02 Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I
* 1.03 Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II
* 1.04 The Lost Warrior
* 1.05 The Long Patrol
* 1.06 The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part I
* 1.07 The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part II
* 1.08 The Magnificent Warriors
* 1.09 The Young Lords
* 1.10 The Living Legend, Part I
* 1.11 The Living Legend, Part II
-------You gain the Pegasus crew (Sheba, Bojay etc)
* 1.12 Fire in Space
* 1.13 War of the Gods, Part I
* 1.14 War of the Gods, Part II
-------- Angelic beings show up.
* 1.15 The Man with Nine Lives
-------- The Borellians show up, later in Baltar's escape
* 1.16 Murder on the Rising Star
-------- This episode could be about anywhere after the Pegasus story. Would almost put before Hand of God as fluff to give credence to the "haven't seen the Cylons in a while"
* 1.17 Greetings from Earth (2 hours)
-------- Eastern Alliance are captured, later in Baltar's Escape.
* 1.18 Baltar's Escape *
* 1.10 Redemption (The Return of Starbuck )
-------- Cylons shown. Obviously edit out Dr. Zee and all that Felter Carb (See "Redemption" on Youtube). This episode would also explain how Starbuck was able to help Apollo in his all white outfit in "Experiment in Terra"
1.21 The Hand of God
-------- Last appearance/ blockade of the Cylons.
-------- ancient signal, which as a regular signal would take at least hundreds of years to reach even a neighboring star system. Fitting, since they are at least a star system away from Terra in the reworked order.
* 1.20 Take the Celestra
-------- Fluff episode.
* 1.19 Experiment in Terra
-------- To me the weakest episode in the series, but a fitting end. They find Terra (which would normally mean "Earth"). Apollo undercover tries to help broker peace, and when that fails, the Galactica comes sweeping in and saves the day. Why the force field when it is not shown in the rest of the series? Galactica had to pull out the stops of course using all that energy and all that fuel jumping to light speed.

Good thing their quest is over.

Yep, just edit out where Apollo asks that question "Is this Earth" and voila! They made it! They found the 13th colony, a space ferring world that they would have to settle differences with, but should push come to shove, an ally to help fight the Cylons IF they ever found them again.

Well, more than likely WHEN, but we can be optimistic.

Certainly a better "Earth" than what they found in second season.

FOR ALL YOU PEGASUS AND COMMANDER CAIN FANS....

Of which I am one of course. I hear you screaming "They can't end the quest!!! They didn't find the Pegasus again."

I agree. See, this is where this would all work great.

Why I think it would happen ... just like this.....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The fleet are taken to the Eastern Alliance worlds and Terra, even allowed to start their own colony. The colonials let the Eastern Alliance and Terra know of a great threat and that they now must be on the offensive, pushing the Cylons back, and maybe even back to the Cylon's own homeworld.

From Terra and the Eastern Alliance they receive some new recruits, and even better, some crude weapons. Weapons that when they explode play havoc on electronics.

The ships of Terra, while not the most advanced, will serve to at least buy time for Galactica should the Cylons get past them.

Fueled up and up to full crew capacity, Galactica is able to do what it does best, be a BATTLESTAR. From there Cylon targets are found and systematically destroyed. Commander Cain thought that Adama was without ambition to pursue the Cylon enemy.

Cain could not have been more wrong. Adama had purpose, to get humanity to safety. Now untethered by responsibility of civilians all delivered to Terra Adama shows the warrior he had been all his life.

Adama is cool and calculating. His wife, his son, lost to the Cylons. Friends, his world. It was high time this mechanized bad joke came to an end.

Apollo, Starbuck, and others close to Adama start to grow concerned of the man now allowed to unleash his full vengeance on the Cylons. With every attack Adama smiles less and less, though he smiles a brief smile with every base star destroyed in his wake.

It is not till Baltar is retrieved that the Cylons stand any tactical chance of slowing down and nearly destroying the Galactica.

"Nearly" is the word here, for once again, out of no where two battlestars show up in the fight and all that is heard over the comm link is "... good, now where were we?" As Cain lands the final blow to Baltar's base Star, ending the bane of humanity forever.

Yes, Cain managed to find one other Battlestar in his wanderings. Did we ever doubt?

And now in triad formation the battlestars blaze a path of destruction that would make a supernova burn with envy. Along the way Adama recruits humans, even aliens, from worlds they come across. Soon alien races not only join as warriors to man turrents, but alien ships to provide fire power.

As the story meets it's epic conclusion, the trio of Battlestars beat and batter the Cylons back to their own homeworld. Some wonder the morality of becoming as vicious as the enemies that nearly destroyed them, but to that Adama only says "For everything there is a season."

Without mercy the human attack comes swooping in. Cylon civilians scatter and flee for their lives, a scene very similar to what humans experienced on Caprica. Buildings are leveled, millions of Cylon "lives" lost, and in the end, Adama to be more thorough, brings on the full fire power of three Battlestars to reduce the Cylon homeworld to rubble.

It is then that Adama collapses. What he has been able to hide is all these years on the run, and then the final campaign of hatred took it's toll on the old warrior. It is then that Adama finds himself for the first time in the presence of the angelic hosts. Nothing is said, just visions of what was up till then. Peace that was offered by a mighty race, only to be a lie. Part of that lie, the human that inspired the lie, now gone. And for a moment, the Angelic host show it all from another perspective. A perspective of a race without identity, without creativity, and yet aware. A race that was a shadow of itself, and now despite their previous show of might, was dying.

And yet, in their own way, they live.

Adama awakes back on the bridge of the Galactica, and getting up he pushes all away, assuring everyone he is alright. He doesn't know why he is alright, but he is.

Cain from the Pegasus alerts him of a group of Cylon Civilian ships making a hurried escape from the rubble that once was the Cylon homeworld, protected by one battered Base Star.

Adama wants to hate, but his recent vision leaves him thinking. A tear nearly comes to his eye in a strange pity for his enemy, and how far he himself went. Adama laughs at the irony of it all. "Perhaps now they will be interested in talking peace."

While peace with the Cylons was impossible, being so alien to humans, an understanding was met. The remaining Cylons would leave the Galaxy, never to return. Cain and the other battlestar agreed to make sure the Cylon civilian fleet kept their word. And Adama assured the Cylons that if they pulled anything, Cain would be the last human they would cross.

Cain, who wanted to irradicate all Cylons, smiled in agreement to that statement at least.

After that, the trio of Battlestars split, two escorting the Cylon civilians as agreed to their new safety, and Battlestar Galactica to a bright shining planet, known as "Earth".

I do not see leaving Terra as stupid. Adama believes, wrongly, that as the 13th Colony, Earth is probably on a par with the other 12, technologically. Even Dr. Zee hints at this in GAL80. When they discover Terra, it is obvious that they are not on par with the Colonials, certainly not with the Cylons. The Cylons could easily crush Terra into oblivion, and so leaving, as in diverting away, hopefully will hide their existence from the Cylons, at least for a while.

Perhaps the Colonials were put-off by the Terran's insidious robot technology. They decided that any people who would construct androids like Hector and Vector were beyond hope, and the people of the colonies were better off as far away from them as possible.

LOL... ok I can kinda see the Hector and Vector angle. It is just sad. It really seemed like the writers were trying to paint Terra as Earth. Afterall that is where the white light had been leading them.

To me it seemed like a last minute "Hey! If Terra is Earth, the show is over!" If that were the thinking, all I have to say is the show did not have to end there. But might have been a good end for first season and the first half of the story.

Good points. Care to elaborate?

Ok, first I have venture into the fringes of an area thats still unpopular and somewhat taboo here, GINO.
Although GINO did a lot of things very wrong, I think they occasionally had a good idea or two. Of course keep in mind that a broken clock is still right twice a day.
One of these ideas presented was that the colonials were strongly opposed to artificial intelligence. If you watched Caprica, you'd notice that before the war they were really getting into Virtual Reality and Robotics. Then they develop a sentient AI, and the revolution begins. None of this tech is still shown being used by the colonials in GINO, and in the pilot you will notice that in the TV interview with Baltar he is considered very controversial because he is working with advanced computer programs and AI.

I think after a thousand years at war with robots it might make sense that the colonials might hate robots, or at least humanoid robots.
Then the colonials encounter a culture that would not only build humanoid robots, but do it in such a careless fashion that they are basically clowns. This may be very offensive to them, and would indicate that the Terrans are on a path to creating their own executioners.
Heck, I hate Hector and Vector, and I'm from earth, imagine what they must think of them.

Very good. I would also add, if they invest that kind of R&D in AI processors, why isn't their spacecraft propulsion more advanced?

Seems like a petty point, (for the Colonials) but probably right. I think they alluded to this somewhat when Muffit was introduced. Seemed like they had the ability to build more impressive robots and could even repair and modify Cylons, but when they would build a robot it would be in a dumbed down daggit (dog) and given a almost non-threatening comical look.

Wonder how much flack was given at first for making even a robotic dog?

Dr. Wilker built muffit after the holocaust. I tend to think of Wilker as a bit of a mad scientist, sort of on the fringe of whats accepted. Wilker said he built muffit to guard warriors on the ground, this may have been true.
Wilker may have had the idea for muffit for a long time and during the exodus he seized the opportunity to build it.

Well, after a millenium of war with a robotic enemy, a certain prejudice in that area does not seem out of place.

But why mess around with something like C.O.R.A? Thats shoving AI right into your front line weaponry. Sorting out where to put the laser generators would be a minor issue.

And Muffit seemed very un-biddable for a programmable dog.. After the first running- off you'd limit the parameters..

Now if Hector and Vector had been a early successful attempt at downloaded human intelligence into a robotic body I could have seen the alarm bells ringing... just as it should of been when the beings of light were busy pointing out they were once as (humans) were..
Then there was Ravisholl playing around with clones who insisted on being different, and Cy who developed. Even Lucifer was more subversive than his designation should have tolerated.

There could have been a far more complex understory exploring what happens when the intelligence become independent of body's limitations, and if the human spirit really is something extra special or just a set of replicatable chemical reactions.

Something GINO/ Caprica tried, almost..
