BattlestarPegasus.com returns: Nov. 26, 2003
Hi everyone,
As some of you know, I made a decision to retire from "Battlestar Galactica" fan-based web site work back on 5 June 2003. BattlestarGalactica.com, GreatWarofMagellan.com and RichardHatch.com went into the very capable hands of Mr. Darrell Lawrence; and BattlestarPegasus.com, like it's namesake on the original series, disappeared into the void of (cyber)space.
I originally launched the BattlestarPegasus.com web site on 3 December 1998 -- the 20th anniversary of the original airing of "The Living Legend, Part II."
On 26 November 2003, the 25th anniversary of the original airing of "The Living Legend, Part I" the Pegasus RETURNS AGAIN. BattlestarPegasus.com will relaunch in support of the ORIGINAL "Battlestar Galactica" series, particularly in support of:
- Glen A. Larson, the father who brought us this phenomenal show... and may yet again reignite that magic.
- Richard Hatch, who kept the torch burning.
- Tom DeSanto, who showed us "what dreams may come"... and may yet again.
There are a series of projects which will be unveiled in the months ahead, the first of which will appear with the relaunch. You will be reminded of the magic which MIGHT HAVE BEEN -- and may yet again. I'm doing this at the request of some of the very folks who worked so damn hard to see the original show rekindled all of these years later (and who haven't given up).
I wish the new show all the best of luck. From what I saw at Galacticon 2003 with my own eyes, it isn't the Galactica which I want to see. What I hope to bring everyone at BattlestarPegasus.com will be a reminder of what MANY PEOPLE WANT TO SEE. That's the main reason the site is coming back.
(And BattlestarPegasus.com will continue to promote it's Open Content Model/Creative Commons license, permitting non-commercial fan sites to republish authorized content from BattlestarPegasus.com on their own sites, provided they follow the legal guidelines. That means ColonialFleets.com, Kingfish's site, Cylon.org, BattlestarGalacticClub.com, BattlestarFanClub.com, Battlestar Zone -- all non-commercial BG fan sites -- can participate, just as before. JUST FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES, please.)
So, Wednesday, November 26th: BattlestarPegasus.com returns. "By the fans, for the fans," as I first stated in 1998.
I do remind everyone: While the site is returning, particularly to showcase various projects/items, I'm not re-engaging fandom as I did before with near-daily online reports, major content initiatives, etc. But I'll work to make the site robust again as time permits.
And continue to support BattlestarGalactica.com, everyone. Darrell has full, unfettered access to my past content and my blessing to use as much of it as he chooses. I'll be working with him to get him additional items that I'm working on, too. We've talked in-person and off-line about this. Expect some very cool things in the months ahead, time permitting.
Michael

Btw, with the relaunch of BattlestarPegasus.com, you'll see the first release of a MAJOR project, simultaneously available on BattlestarGalactica.com, ColonialFleets.com and BattlestarPegasus.com (which other sites can republish themselves, per my Open Content Model/Creative Commons License).
Stay tuned.

Thank you! And thank you to everyone for their well-wishes both here and offline. It's very appreciated. This web work isn't about ego stroking; it never has been. It's so darn special to be able to provide information to those who truly enjoy the subject matter: The original, classic "Battlestar Galactica."
I want to add this: Late last night, I finally unwrapped my Battlestar DVD box set. I picked an episode at random. I wound up watching "The Magnificient Warriors." While that particular episode wasn't one of my favorites, it was easy to watch and see (genuinely see) the magic which this series possessed.

Michael,
Your very welcome. I look foreword to seeing your work yet again. And although you are not engaging in the news side of things you have my full support. Am kind weary and tired too. Not of galactia or fandam as such. Just personal stuff happening all at once kind of thing. My fandam for Science Fiction in general is actually about the only thing that is keeping me grounded because it is an essential and fundimental part of my identity. Have been into Science Fiction since I was a mere 5 years old when I seen and actually comprehended my first episode of DR Who and it was Dalek episode as well. And unlike most kids in the UK at that time, I didn't once retreat behind the sofa. Other show that I liked back then were Thunderbirds, Fireball XL Five and Space 1999 as well as Star Trek of course. And when Galactica came out in 78 and I seen it in the cinema I thought wow..... And further though I want to be that Starbuck cos he gets all the chicks.
If you have no objection, and Tom and the rest of the folks here do not object I will be posting a copy and paste of your opening post in this thread at Sci Fi Pulse in the Galactica area. Because other than the hopeful situation with DeSantos/Larson/Hatch Et el and the recent DVDs and Game release. This is the first goods news we have all had in awhile.
All the best to your efforts and I hope that your enthusiasm for Galactica shoots back into the stratosphere. Last year you mails had me intrigued and on the edge of my seat, and sometimes as Jewels has undoubtedly told you. I felt like the guy opening the evelope in the original Mission Impossible films. You shoudl signiterise all you emails and posts on the board with.
'This message will self destruct in sixty seconds, Please clear the building now.'
Good luck with the your future plans for the pegasus and long may she raighn as the guiding light for the original and the best Battlestar Galactia.

Time will tell. With another child on the way, due early 2004, the enthusiasm and energies will be ever present, although tempered by time spent on the family, my health, etc.
Tom Wolfe was correct when he wrote: "You can never go home again." It isn't the same feeling (in relaunching Pegasus) as anything I experienced before. The magic is subdued; an era has passed; a new one is dawning, courtesy of the SCI-FI Channel. I would rather be celebrating a BG series which continues the 1978-79 story, characters, actors, etc. I find the new series to be a near-complete anathema, especially after those clips at Galacticon. (Kudos on the Edward James Olmos casting, plus the work by Zoic, though -- those elements are the exception, imho.)
While I "can't go home again" (in the metaphoric sense), I can move forward. And in the same sense that New Line Cinema trashed the hopes of classic "Lost in Space" revivalists (kudos to Bill Mumy for keeping the faith), time will pass -- and hope springs eternal. (Rock on, Mr. Larson.)
I may not watch this new BG 2003 mini-series, but I look forward to future prospects. It ain't over yet.

Well as always Michael, I'm here if ya need me buddy.
It's great to hear that you are bringing back one of the great Icons in the Battlestar Galactica fandom, the Great BattlestarPegasus.com and it's even better to hear that you have another child on the way.
Just seems like yesterday that Connor was born.
Man, have the fans been through a crap load of stuff in the last few years or what. lol
Well it's just like I have always said, if TPTB are not going to do the right thing at sci fi and give us a proper continuation, then we will do it our selves.
Take care.

Michael:
on your Tom Wolfe quote: You can never go "home" again, only because in the intervening time "home" has time to change & grow as have you! In essence: home has moved.
But being a part of a community/family is another thing, it makes for a mobile "home" without walls that moves & grows with you.
Bwahahaha, Jewels would make a horrid philosopher, wouldn't she.
My help offer still stands too.

I am thrilled to hear BP.com is coming back. Really looking forward to it.
Counting the days....
Congrats, too, Michael, on the upcoming addition! Know what it's going to be yet (or is it too soon?) Ah, the joys of small children - as long as I can hand them off when they need changing, and I know they'll go home before my bedtime, I'm happy!

read the news forum: its awaiting an OK from someone. Next week....It's worth the wait. But have Kleenex handy. Go to www.cylon.org and look for the Desanto Pilot or Desanto script in the BG section.
