You could always call the Sci-Fi version BGF for "Battlestar Galactica: Feldercarb."

Or BGT&A for the more overt sex prevelent in the miniseries.

In comparison with what was there in 1978, the sex was considerably more graphic - heck, the only place you could see things like were in the mini back in '78 were in those dirty, seedy- well, never mind.

For those of us raised during that period, the vast majority don't want our kids seeing naked people getting it on on free TV. We have no problem with portraying sex, but not graphically.

Let's get it straight, once and for all: Battlestar Galactica was family fare - therefore "wholesome enough for family consumption" is associated with the name. The mini is anything but family fare because of the graphic nature of the sexual content. This is where the conflict over the sex lies.

Do I need to be more graphic?

Not at all, my friend.

However, if I may....Baltar and Six were not naked. (They were presumed to be, but they were not...and if they were, it was kept within the confines of broadcast standards....aw heck, it's all just academic from here. )

Anyhoo....I guess it can be taken from two different aspects.

Content...for many, especially those who regard that the name "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA" is synonymous with family fare....was sorta graphically represented. But we did not see the kinds of advanced things we see in those "dirty, seedy"--- well, ahem, never mind. So, on that note, perhaps it was something best exorcised from the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

For me, and I say this with no disrespect, "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA" is synonymous with action/science-fiction in general. I cannot place the same restrictions or qualifiers on it. But, that is just me, and a few others.

Time...well, you know my stance on overall time of the scenes in the show...so I will not repeat them again.

Anyhoo....forgive me for bringing the conflict up yet again. meesa keepin me biggen yap shutto on dissen one, okeeday?

Respectfully,
Martok2112

No, you did not halucinate...but I do think that it was not quite as graphic as you thought. (But it did come awfully close.)

Respectfully,

We shorten Battlestar Galactica to BG, and pronounce it "BiG", cause the show is BIG, The ship is BIG, and well... I think BiG fits it.

Then the shows would be

BG1 (pronounced Big-One) cause it was first
BG80 (pronounced Big-Eighty)
BG2C (Big-TwoCee) -Hatch's Second Coming
BGD (Big-Dee) - The Desanto production
BG03 (Big-Three) - The new one

Our shows are BiG!!!!!
Of course, the abbreviations are good for the 'net. But for the spoken word, "Galactica Classic" or just plain "Classic" suits the 1978 series well. So what would we call it in 'net terms? BGC?

I guess BG80 is fine for "Galactica 1980". I prefer to forget about that one.

Hatch's project is a troublesome one. It never got beyond a movie trailer and some low-circulation novels. How 'bout referring to it as "Hatch" or BGH?

I like the "BGD" moniker for Desanto's project. Is that one officially dead now?

As for the Ronald D. Moore/David Eick production which started with the Dec., 2003 mini-series/maxi-movie: it seems to be most identified with Moore who made a name for himself with some of the better episodes of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION. So maybe it could be referred to as "Battlestar Moore" or BGR or BGM.

So, where would that put us?

BGC - Classic - the original 1978 series

BG80 - Galactica 1980

BGH - Hatch - Richard Hatch's "Second Coming" trailer, presumably a continuation of "Classic", if so it could also be called "Classic".

BGD - Desanto - The doomed (?) Desanto project

BGM/BGR - the newly re-made Ronald Moore/David Eick series.
