What really are the chances for a Galactica Classic movie?
I don't want to be depressing, but I see no real chance of a
Classic Galactica movie ever being made. Does anyone have
any recent news that could make me more optimistic about
this? After the substitution of GINO for the real thing, I'm
afraid of being kicked in the teeth again.

Re: What really are the chances for a Galactica Classic movie?
Well, if I was a betting gal, I'd say the odds are remote.
As for me, it doesn't matter. They did a good enough job with the original that we're all here still talking about it. For me it's not all about a remake or a continuation on the big or middlin' screen. It's just about reminiscing about a great show that still brings people together.
Although I know I'm generally the exception . . .

Re: What really are the chances for a Galactica Classic movie?
If I were a gambling man, I'd say it was a long shot - but long shots have been known to pay off.
Based on what little information we have, I'm thinking the odds are now somewhere closer to slim than none. That there is a chance. I am not, however, holding my breath - I'd turn blue long before shooting would start.
However - based on what has been done and knowing that 32 years have passed since BG premiered, I'm pretty certain that if we do see anything based on BG it will be akin to the Abrams reboot of Star Trek - a movie respectful of the original but not identical, written and produced to appeal to the widest possible audience and not just us BG fanatics.
It is my view (and therefore the correct view) that if "they" do create a BG movie, and treat BG the way Abrams treated Star Trek, we will actually see the real Battlestar Galactica on the big screen.
And I'd love to be on the writing team.....

I think "remote" is where our possibilities have always been. But like Kirk said, "There are always possibilities."
We heard months back that Singer was given a director/producer job on a BG movie. If I'm remembering right, cash-strapped Universal was the source. Right after that Fox hired him for X-men: First Class and fast-tracked that movie.
The last time, probably to their detriment, Singer's team was very quiet for preproduction. This may be a case of them being quiet again, or just handling projects in the order that funds are available and studios set their deadlines, writers hired, FX designed and modelled—any of the hundreds of individual steps that make a movie happen.

Thanks. I'm glad there's at least a glimmer of hope.

Re: What really are the chances for a Galactica Classic movie?
Largely, I have to agree with whats been said.
I'd say that at this moment NONE of the previously announced hollywood projects I'm excited about are happening.
But thats not to say that they are all dead and buried.
As for this 'new' BSG.....
I agree that if it does happen it'll likely be a 'reboot' with if we are really lucky a few familiar faces playing Quorum members.
I'd also rate the chance as small, but still there.
Best

There's a part of me that still hopes for a next-gen continuation... if written properly, it's extremely possible and plausible.

Re: What really are the chances for a Galactica Classic movie?
If by next-generation you mean Boxey, then that was done in Galactica 1980.
If this was to actually happen, then I'd far rather see a recasting of the original characters, staying TRUE to characterization.
Have to say, after seeing the A-team reboot, I found myself pleasantly impressed that they regurgitated key elements from the original and put together an enjoyable action adventure movie.
However, if Starbuck doesn't find his way off that damn rock--still alive and kicking--in the reboot, then frankly, I'll stick with fanfiction.

G-80? Did that even happen?
(Apologies to Peter Noble).
No, by next-gen, I'm referring to picking up the story around 30 years or so after the events in the Hand of God. Depending on how it would be written, original cast members could be cast in cameo roles, possibly in some sort of spiritual fashion if they had died during the intervening years/yahrens.
I've always favored some sort of continuation since we've already seen Saga (and forced to acknowledge another production), twice. I can truly find no good reason to re-do the colonial holocaust.
FYI - acknowledgment of the other production is for the simple fact that it did occur and is not meant as an invitation to discuss THAT particular production.
But,.... I've seen the re-booted Star Trek movie and enjoyed it very much. So, if the writers want to be lazy, as long as they honor and respect the source material, I could live with it.

Lazy writers - no. Lazy and uncreative studios, yes.
That's why I say any BG movie we see will be a reboot, ala Star Trek.

Re: What really are the chances for a Galactica Classic movie?
Hmm, well I don't feel confident about a movie at the moment but I'll wait a bit longer to see what happens. Personally I'd like to see it happen and if it's to be a reboot in the Trek vein than I hope it's a bit better than Trek in being true to characters. I hate to say it, but as long as Starbuck's a guy and with the spirit of Dirk Benedict and there's Sheba, Athena et al than I'll be happy.
