SAN FRANCISCO, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Fiction author Scott Sigler today released EarthCore as the world's first "podcast-only" novel. Sigler will release an hour of audio each week, creating a format similar to weekly television suspense shows with continuing storylines, such as "24" and "Battlestar Galactica."
The free podcast feed is available at
http://www.scottsigler.net/earthcore , and will run for 20 episodes. EarthCore is the first "podcast novel" because it is not available in any other format. Listeners can't buy the book and peek at the last page, they have to wait each week for a new episode.
"Podcasting" is a web-based broadcast medium. Audio files (most commonly in MP3 format) are made available online in a way that allows software to automatically detect the availability of new files, then download the files for listening at the user's convenience.
"You can listen to them on your iPod or MP3 player, letting you enjoy the story while driving, at the gym, walking -- anywhere you want to listen," Sigler said.
"Listeners don't have to be in a specific place at a specific time. You listen whenever you want."
EarthCore is a free download.
"iPods and MP3 players are perfect for audio books, but the prices for audio books are ridiculous" Sigler said. "Downloaded audio books often cost more than a hardcover. It's nothing but greed."
Synopsis of the EarthCore podcast novel
Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world's record mine shaft, three miles under the surface.
EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure.
But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting ... and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.
Novel History
EarthCore was published in 2001 by AOL/TimeWarner's imprint iPublish. It was first released as an eBook, and hit #1 on the Barnes & Noble eBook bestseller list. EarthCore was due out as a nationwide paperback release in June of 2002. The post-9/11 recession caused AOL/TimeWarner to cut several companies, including iPublish.
