What would you keep
O.k., I was wondering if there are any elements from G80 that anyone would want to keep. Naturally finding modern-day Earth, the kids, and the time-traveling are out, but here's some things I do like out of the episodes I've seen:
1. The names. In a continuation I think it would be nice to have a villan named "Xavier," and I think Boxey should take on his name from G80 since he'd be older (forget if he was Troy or Dillan).
2. "Return of Starbuck" (Duh)
3. While I think the character of Dr. Zee was stupid the way he was presented, the idea of the baby growing up to be Dr. Zee could be made to work. O.k., consider this. Starbuck sent back the kid, and about the time he hit puberty his intellegence started going off the scale, although he was still no more intellegent than a decent scientist on the Galactica until he was an adult. His real us came from his ability to see into the short-term future (not through machines, but through some mystical power), but every time he did it it put such a strain on him that if he did it too often, or looked too far he could die from the strain. Hence he was limited to checking for potential Cylon ambushes from time to time.

None except Starbuck finding his way back to the fleet. Oops Tom DeSanto did that. Dirk was coming back. Boy did we get the shaft.

What to keep from G80? Hmm...
I would keep the fact that the Galactica reaches Earth and maybe the Turbines (flying motorbikes), but I would take Steve's "Dark Exodus" story and re-work the concept that way.
Other than that, I don't have much use for G80...

Aside from Return of Starbuck which I consider canon, and seems to form the basis of most Continuation storylines....
I would keep :
The motorcycles - they were cool.
Tory and Dillon, as other warriors of the fleet.
Two person Vipers, they were mentioned in Saga etc, but they were used well in G80.
The video of the Cylons attacking Earth - just because it was cool !
The wit of Cy in Return of Starbuck.....although I am not too sure any of the woooomen would agree....!
The character of Xavier....and Jamie
Galactica 1980 had its good points, many people didn't like a few of its premises, but at least it didn't disrespect the original, and in its own right it was an enjoyable watch...

Well put Ernie and I agree, I actually liked G80, just finished watching them all.
The return of Starbuck was one of my favorites period. I think with better stories and less kids it had potential

Do away with finding Earth, do away with the Super Scouts (kids are a part of the re-population equation though), do away with Adama's "beard", do away with Z.
Keep the rest.
Definatly keep Jamie at all costs.

I agree with you and KingFish Both.
Pick up Starbuck (owd's audio)......and then take Dark Exodus and do the story that way

Hey, think about this. What if everything on Earth had been made a sub-plot. They instead focused on the Galactica distracting the Cylons. But then the Galactica was damaged, and had to land on a planet in the Alpha Centauri solar system. To stay safe, the other ships had to land too. They land in a region that for some reason a base star can't attack, and so they have to send in ground forces on a weekly basis. You then have a cheaper, ground-based show.

I think people really want to forget G80.
But of course the STarbuck episode and Jaime. I agree with that.
But I would prefer a show about pilots. Thats something that attracts me.

The only thing I would keep is the concept that they would eventually develope a space craft that is all force field propulsion.

Not only should nothing be kept, but if at all possible, we should try to stop new fans from knowing about this show. Everyone should agree to delete any mention from the internet, never speak of it in public, and a special ops mission into sci-fi should be preformed to eliminate the master tapes.

Cy, Starbuck's return, and Adama's beard.
Period.

You're saying we shouldn't even save "Return of Starbuck?" Besides, it's too dang funny to get rid of. I regret only that they didn't include it with the original set. It's funny enough to want to watch once or twice, but not good enough to be worth buying in it's own box set (naturally they should have still left the price the same).

I would like to see Return of Starbuck issued on a seperate DVD, with bonus features such as a commentary of video interview by Dirk and others.
It is odd Fragmentary, that you say save nothing, yet Return of Starbuck seems the basis of many Continuations...including Richard's Second Coming, and OWD's audio project...
I consider the episode canon, and a very important part of Battlestar Galactica.

I enjoy the Return of Starbuck for what it is. I mean, who doesn't love a jealous cylon? But ultimately, it just reduces the major threat from the series down to the straight man for Starbuck's one liners. The Cylons go from being a feared enemy capable of wiping out mankind to complaining about whose turn it is to crank the generator. Like everything in G80, it was watered down. And we don't need the episode to continue with Starbuck as it was in that episode that he disappeared in the first place. Its cute, it would have been a nice easter egg on the DVDs, but it just seems too silly and non-sensical to rank with the first season.

Hey, I'm running a bonfire for heretics over at TA (those who think TOS Star Trek was better than TOS Galactica, those that think Six isn't the hottest woman in sci-fi, ect.). We'd like you to join us.

Mustex,
I'd be in a real quandary, if I had to choose which one was better. I love them both.

It is tough to call, but ST:TOS had Scotty. Galactica really could have used a lovable drunk. But what TV series couldn't?
Although, Galactica had a monkey! Even in a robot dog suit, monkeys rule.

IN regards to G80, I just wish when they got to Earth, Earth was past the Colonials in technology. That way they could mix it up with the Cylons. I guess I am the only one that wished those stupid bikes would crash and go away. And for Pete's sake. . . Like there was really enough room under the pilot seat of a "Starhound class Viper" to store the bike. Don't even get mne started on that little halfpint with the goofy glasses(Dr. Zee), him and Wesley Crusher probably hang out together at the local Chuckie Cheese's.

Muffit the daggit. They had two of them in the G-1980 pilot. By the way the daggit did have both teeth and a tongue.

They doubled the monkey budget? Maybe I didn't give this show the credit it deserved.
