Variety Reporter Wants Your Input

New report posted at Cylon.org: "Scott Hettrick, a reporter from Variety Magazine contacted me. He does not understand why fans are in an uproar about the Sci Fi series. Please take a minute to e-mail him to explain why fans are upset so Hollywood will know the dilemma. His e-mail is at the following link. (Reed Business Pubs owns Variety Magazine.) Here is the original text of the e-mail: 'Yes, I was there and we reported on Olmos' comments as well. I haven't gone to these web sites but maybe you could briefly explain to me why you want me to know that so many people are in objection to this. How will this affect the original series for die-hard fans of the original? Can't they just not watch it? Or watch it, and if they don't like it, don't watch it again? Aren't tons of movies and TV series remade poorly for TV or even movie theaters? I just don't get why there is such an outcry about this that you want us to know about.'" Thanks to seanashbrook for posting the report at the Cylon Alliance forums.

Sci-Fi Channel President Bonnie Hammer States "Kill Me Now."

Ohio.com reported on Edward James Olmos' public statement in front of Bonnie Hammer at a press tour. Bonnie Hammer's public response to the fact that most fans loathe the upcoming Battlestar Galactica mini-series? "Kill Me Now." Ohio.com reports: "It finally took Olmos to cut through the diplomatic replies and go to the core issue. 'A person who has a really strict belief in the original, I would advise not to watch this program,' he said. 'It'll hurt them.... Some of the characters names are the same, but the intent and the way we are building the (show's) reality is not the reality that was built in the original. So I tell (fans)... buy yourself the new DVDs they are putting out of the old episodes, and whenever we come on just put that one in.' Sci Fi President Bonnie Hammer stood by as Olmos delivered his warning against a show she was trying to publicize. 'Kill me now,' she said."

Detailed Report on Bonnie Hammer's Response to Fans

NJ.com posted a detailed report on Bonnie Hammer's recent response to the Battlestar Galactica fan reaction: "At a Sci-Fi channel session on Tuesday promoting a miniseries remake of the short-lived ABC program 'Battlestar Galactica,' star Edward James Olmos , who plays starship commander Adama, went off script in a big way. Sci-Fi president Bonnie Hammer was mediating the discussion when a reporter asked if the miniseries, scheduled to premiere in December, was just a glorified pilot for a regular weekly show. Olmos admitted what everyone in the room already knew that the original show was terrible, that the miniseries remake was a backdoor pilot for a series, and that he and the other actors had already signed contracts saying they'd return for more shooting. Then he warned fans of the original not to watch the new version because creator Ron Moore's radically realistic scripts would break their hearts. 'A person who really has a strict belief in the original, I would not advise him to watch this program,' Olmos said. 'Buy yourself the new DVDs that they are putting out of the original episodes, and whenever we come on, just put that one in. Don't watch (our version) because it will hurt.' Olmos said fans of the original, which ran from September 1978 to August 1980, are 'very angry' about the new version. 'And I know that Sci-Fi Channel wants to say that everybody's going to enjoy it. They're not.' I was 12 rows away, but I swear I could see all the blood drain from Hammer's face. 'Kill me now,' she said. 'They're not going to like the program,' Olmos repeated. He then complained about 'tens of thousands of people who write to each other for 25 years over a program that is not on the air and is not even being rerun.'"

TVGuide.com Reports Bonnie Hammer "Visibly Squirmed" at Fan Reaction

New report from TVGuide.com: "Sci Fi Channel president Bonnie Hammer visibly squirmed at Tuesday's TCA presentation for Battlestar Galactica, where star Edward James Olmos revealed that devotees of the original '70s TV show are sending him hate mail. Apparently, they've heard Sci Fi's four-hour fall miniseries is a very loosely based remake, and they ain't happy. 'If you're a die-hard fan of the original Battlestar Galactica, please don't watch,' Olmos declared. 'Sci Fi Channel wants you to think everyone will like this. They won't! So please, don't watch! Buy the DVD of the original series, and when we're on, pop it in instead! I don't want you writing me any more letters!'"
