Summary: Miscasting ruins all hope


Famous for its tremendous strengths and weaknesses, the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was a one season science fiction space opera produced in the late 70's. Twenty-five years later, the Sci-Fi cable channel is bringing back the GALACTICA in the form of a mini-series. The new mini-series is the number one topic on every BATTLESTAR GALACTICA email list, fan group and discussion board on the net. Unfortunately, the buzz is 100% bad.
The adored original cast is replaced with actors already very familiar from their acting within the science fiction genre. Instead of using as many of the original cast as is possible, instead of casting "unknowns", the producers have turned to known science fiction actors with no relation to the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA universe. Examining each casting choice in detail reveals that the choices made are thoughtless, or worse, heartless. The best science fiction explores a wide range of human passions and feelings motivating the heroes we watch on the screen, and it reveals to the audience new insights about self and others. The new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA mini-series appears to exist only so that many humans associated with the project can cash their paychecks.
